Dont believe everything you see on tv!the whole thing is post processed after in studio with editing and mixing-mastering for the live-dvd Purposes/Many close shots are from the rehearshals of the noun. The wide shots of the camera are from the night live.I happen to be a professional musician and i had the chance having appearances on tv and dvd. This is why you see those special live Dvd's and the performance is out of this world, its not that they dont play really good, but if you go at a live you will understand that this is not close to the finalized material.

@Fenriz They actually do. They are just really good at pulling off a fake facade that fools the rest of the people. They are polite in Japan due to social pressure. Basically they don't act like an ass because if they do, their neighbors and co-workers will know, and they will get fingers pointed at them. Can't have that.

@@bigmoney4685It's not at all unusual for musicians to project like this. It happens in the guitar realm all of the time. Someone is made to feel inadequate by another musician and their ego can't allow them to accept that their work ethic is not as good or they simply lack natural ability so they'll claim another guitarist has no "heart" or has no "feel" and is only "showing off" or some such nonsense. It's true with some, no doubt, but not with all and especially some of the admired giants out there. "I put more into one note than they do into 1000." It's like, "Yeah, that's because that one note was more work for you than the 1000 for them. 😅

Not a big fan of DT's music, but I can watch Portnoy play all day long. He has so much joy and passion when he plays, and a relaxed confidence -- making it look effortless. Triple O.G. Da Truth polar opposite......not really mate . Mangini is actually more skilled, but it's not the skill that makes a drummer better, it's his passion/musicality which is why I'll always consider Portnoy the best, you'll get impressed by hearing mangini nail the notes, true but I'll never dance to that but i'll definitely dance to Portnoy playing

this right here... is EXACTLY why he can not be replaced by any drummer (not even Mangini which has got to be in the top 2 best drummers in the world nowadays), Portnoy was the heart and soul of the band the same way JP is, and JR, JM, except for James which is the weaker link of them all haha but still i can't imagine the band with someone else on the vocals... it's a freaking shame i never got the chance to see the whole crew together...

I find it really inaccurate to tell who's better than whom or who's the most skilled drummer as that would be quite subjective, but most of us agree that MP was a fundamental piece both in the song writing process and as we can se here in the performing of those songs... TO ME the band won't ever be as good as back in the day... they've lost an irreplaceable part... i'll still go to their concerts but to hear them play their old songs live... I'm still hoping for a reunion. (hopefully before they're too old)...

I don't watch the shows these guys put on. I watch the drums. Mangini is soulless and it's got nothing to do with his shit stage presence. John Bonham didn't have much stage presence either but no one doubts his soul. The Only drummer I know of with the power, expressiveness and precision to replace Portnoy is Royster. Mangini doesn't have the power or expressiveness.
