Its a good knife and holds an edge well, the scales on the handle aren't as well finished like on some knives I've seen but the knife is a work horse and decent for the price I paid, atb

Very nice to see someone so enthousiastic about his new knife, wonderfull. I have been browsing around quite a lot to find a decently priced, good quallity bushcraft knife with a good sheath. At first I looked at the Wright&Son Sheffield knives, but the TBS Boar did convince me (virtually that is). Hope you're still happy with it? Best regards, Erwin
@Fell_Wanderer11 жыл бұрын
I'm still happy with it but havent been out to the woods yet, Ive feather sticked and cut some pine wood in the garden and the knife was still sharp afterwards, although its not cutting paper quite so well now, it needs a strop but Im resisting honing the knife too often, I looked at the wrights bushcraft knife which is ok but the long ricasso put me off buying that one, There doesnt seem to be many people with the TBS Boar Bushcraft knife on the internet to get a review but there are lots of talk about TBS folding knives in high carbon steel and people are saying they are good knives so I bought mine out of brand reputation and I wasnt disapointed
@sithekitmonster54898 жыл бұрын
Hi Damian, ive been watching your videos and have been thoroughly enjoying them, i to do bushcraft down in the south in kent, and have the TBS Grizzly both in micarta and one in curly birch, i agree not the most refined of knives, but such good workhorses.......been thinking of getting the boar as well to add to the collection but maybe the stainless 5mm version. Please keep doing the bushcraft vids as i think they are great......... All the best.... Si.
@Fell_Wanderer8 жыл бұрын
Hi Si, TBS are great value for money knives, yes the scales aren't as refined and pretty as more expensive knives. I found no faults with the bevel or grind and the steel holds an edge well . If I had paid double the price for a knife then maybe I'd be frightened to use it incase I lost it or scratched it, so for me its a very capable and affordable knife which has been used lots but not abused with plenty of batonning. I love the TBS boar and I'm not being paid by the company to say that lol.

I really like that knife from what I see from the video. I personally like the sheath a lot. Myself, I would not wear it in the kayak even with treated leather. I am on and around water a lot. I generally use stainless with plastic or Kydex and keep any other knives in dry bag. Enjoyed the unboxing , I have been eyeing those knives also . Hope it serves you well.
@Fell_Wanderer11 жыл бұрын
I'm not around salt water so prefer carbon steel for my knives being a bushcrafter, I'm pleased with the knife, initially I had some edge rolling but I put that down to the knife having an extremely sharp thin razor thin edge straight from the factory, I've only honed it slightly on a 800 grit stone and strop which is still sharp, just come in from an over nighter in the woods and the edge is fine, there are a few reviews of TBS Boar folding knives which uses the same steel and people are pleased with them also, good knives at a reasonable price..

The knife is nice and comparable to knives costing a lot more, its a different beast to my Mora's, just as sharp but feels heavier and more dependable due to being full tang, (this is my first full tang knife) Mora's have never let me down but aware of their limitations. I could buy an expensive knife which would get the job done but would be frightened in case I lost or scratched it, this knife ticks all the boxes for me.

Pleased you like the knife, the handle isn't as chunky as some knives out there and feels so smooth and comfortable without the fear of slipping from the hand, the sheath although well made didn't float my boat initially when I first saw it, since then its grown on me more out of being a very practical sheath rather than winning a beauty contest

I haven't been out with the knife yet but did some wood cutting (feather sticks) in my garden for about 10 mins, its still cutting paper but not very good now, it needs a strop and its still too soon to pass judgement on the blade.
@billpeart11 жыл бұрын
Fell Wanderer 10 minutes of woodwork and it doesn't cut paper well?
@Fell_Wanderer11 жыл бұрын
it wasn't as sharp after 10 mins, not razor sharp anyway and there was a very slight roll over on the edge, could be because the edge was very fine to begin with, been out overnight with it and still sharp for cutting wood but not scary sharp like it was out the box, haven't had to sharpen it so far as in the past I've worn a Mora down by sharpening it every other day just because it wasn't razor sharp anymore, compared to my other knives it seems to keep its sharpness about the same but I was a little surprised about the slight edge roll
@billpeart11 жыл бұрын
Fell Wanderer Too bad for the edge rolling. That is rather disappointing. Great looking package though. I hope it works out well for you.
@Fell_Wanderer11 жыл бұрын
Pete Privitere The edge roll is small and only on a couple of places, could this be because the knife was straight from the factory with an ultra fine edge and cutting into a hard knot on wood could dull it slightly even after 10 mins of carving?, once its been hand sharpened a few times it will get a small micro bevel and will be a much stronger edge, I don't own too many knives to compare blades so I would appreciate anyone's experience on this. I also have to say that the micro roll on the edge is hardly noticeable to the eye and you have to run a finger along the edge to know that its there.
@midgefodder528210 жыл бұрын
Had mine for a fair while now, it's one of the first run editions. It is literally hair popping sharp. I have never had a problem with the edge rolling, infact the heat treat was spot on on mine. I carved with it for 10hrs and it was still sharp, not razor but it honed up easy on the strop. If you have a problem TBS have great customer service. Enjoy it it's a great knife.
@Fell_Wanderer10 жыл бұрын
since I got the knife I've only had to re hone it once on a fine grit stone and strop, it rolled after I first got it but I wouldn't say it was bad, the edge was so fine from new and maybe that didn't help making it feel like it had rolled over slightly, it hasn't rolled since and maybe I've put a fine secondary bevel on inadvertently which is giving the edge durability?.. I love the knife and it keeps its sharpness comparable to my Mora's, over all I'm pleased with the knife
@midgefodder528210 жыл бұрын
I really love mine. Only knife I've found that fits my hand nicely, and I'm a big guy of 6'4", which also has a decent balance point (it's at the first Corby bolt). Only thing I've done to it is put a dropper on the sheath as I got fed up of being poked in the ribs lol, and fitted the leather dc4 and fire steel pouch in the front instead of the cordura one I got.
@Fell_Wanderer10 жыл бұрын
I did notice that the knife and sheath sits high on my belt so prefer it in the horizontal position, I love the knife with its DC4 and firesteel sheath and wouldn't be without it now when venturing out in the woods, a decent knife which hopefully give years of service.

love the knife man, one question, does it have a 90 degree spine? or can i rip a ferro rod well?
@Fell_Wanderer11 жыл бұрын
Hi, the knife came with a 90 degree spine which throws good sparks, I demonstrate this somewhere in the middle of the review, its a lot better than my Mora Bushcraft Triflex where I had to file the spine flat in order to use a firesteel which is still not as good as the TBA Boar

+Fell Wanderer I've got the Bear Grills survival knife, various other BG knives and the 400 quid Ray Mears SWC "Woodlore" knife. And, like you say, Bear's Gerber gear is absolute rubbish to use, virtually unusable for me anyway. The SWC on the other hand is the absolute dogs by comparison. There's £340 difference in cost and a £1000 difference in quality and usability. For less than 100 quid you can get the exact same knife in kit form from SWC if you make and fit the handle itself. That's my next project... When I get through all the projects the Mrs has lined up for me anyway.
@jelkel258 жыл бұрын
Been thinking about getting that knife that is good enough to not let you down, will last a life time but not so expensive it would really sting to loose it (although it stings to loose a cheap Mora if that knife has done the business over time), these TBSs and the full tang Marttini's are on the short list.....Although getting the TBS gives me an excuse to go to the Bushcraft Store, good for gear, bad for bank accounts!!
@Fell_Wanderer8 жыл бұрын
+jelkel25 Everything you said made sense to me. The TBS Boar isn't the most refined and well finished knife, the sheath isn't the most beautiful either, I like it because it holds an edge and does the job admirably. Damian.

I got the grizzly it's a bit bigger.........too big too thick the one you have is about right..... There really good knives but the grizzly is not easy to carve with or do fine jobs & it has some weight behind it so if you have an accident it tends to be I bad one...Americans would say it's too small but they like everything oversized & with tactical written on it. It doesn't go back in the sheath by feel alone & earlier ones the sheathe seemed thinner & the tip went through the side while putting it away if not careful. All in all a top knife for life if you train yourself to never put it on the floor.... As I said the boar is the best size & the carbon steel is just for people that want high carbon steel the standard steel one is rated just as hard but rusts less it's just sold in the carbon format to keep the sales of people that want a harder steel but don't know the Rockwell scale for both versions.. Keep the videos up I watch them all...
