I may be wrong but I think coffee is best stored in containers that block light.
@XICups3 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right! I mentioned in this video that if you are leaving your container outside then its best to get the white or black version. However I have mine in the drawer, so the clear one works and helps with the labeling.

Fellow Atmos: I have owned a couple of them. The air escapes, THATS IT. They work well for a couple of months, after that, they suck.

One week without loosing any air ? Mine after max 2 days doesn’t have any vacuum at all. I have the stainless black one. But I think, it has to be due to the freshness of the coffee

I have only had the glass ones, to this day it still keeps a vacuum very well. I have seen some recommendations to give the lid a couple twists every 4/5 days, but honestly I have not needed to do that.

Was gifted two of the La Colombe collaboration model literally yesterday (3/4/22). They work until the morning of 3/5/22. Upon attempting to reseal, they just wouldn't. Trouble shooting was no help Definitely sending back this $80 worth of unusable product.

Is it allowing air in, or is the coffee off gassing carbon dioxide?
@XICups3 жыл бұрын
@@MyNameWasTecho Interesting point. Though I am assuming in his case, if I am not mistaken, he might be noticing that the valve slowly climbs back up to an open position, which would be an indication that it's losing seal slowly.
@MyNameWasTecho3 жыл бұрын
@@XICups You may well be right. My understanding, and I may well be wrong, is that coffee releases carbon dioxide after it’s roasted both before and during the brew process. If the coffee beans are put in a sealed container and volume of gas within is reduced by removing air the container to a sufficient level to activate an indicator, as the coffee off gasses the volume of the gas within the sealed container could rise to a level sufficient to “deactivate” the indicator. Of course, it could just be a faulty unit 🤷♂️
@XICups3 жыл бұрын
@@MyNameWasTecho No you are definitely right regarding the beans off-gassing as it gets older. But the purpose of the canister to try to contain that as much as possible thus keeping it fresh longer. So if that valve is decompressing, it will likely be a faulty unit. At least it's not something that I notice with my canisters.
@petercross33563 жыл бұрын
Are you sure you need those transparent canisters for storing coffee? I'm asking this because air is not the only enemy of coffee? Light is equally harmful to coffee, thus, an opaque canister is the better, if not the best, option to store your coffee.
@XICups3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, yes these canisters are used for coffee. As for the light issue, as I have mentioned in the video, if you are storing your beans outside you should get the black or white version, however, I chose the clear version because the beans are always stored in my drawer away from any light source and it offers a window for me to label the beans. Hope this helps clear things up. Cheers!

What do you think would be different if you would compare coffee in vacuum storage canister VS coffee in coffee bag with plastic zip and with ventil (original coffee bag from coffee shop).
@XICups3 жыл бұрын
To be very honest with you, I don't think there will be a huge difference if you are drinking freshly roasted beans within the month. However if you are keeping beans for longer than that, like I sometimes do when purchasing multiple beans to try, I noticed that (in a practical sense) I don't need to adjust my grind settings as much to compensate for the beans getting older. Hope this answer makes sense.
@Crovenko3 жыл бұрын
@@XICups Yes, it does make sense, thanks.
@marcogiannotta7743 жыл бұрын
Would it make sense to purchase this if I'll be opening it everyday to use the beans or is it just for longterm storage?
@XICups3 жыл бұрын
Great question. Short answer is YES. Beans will "age" continuously as they sit there, so the more you can keep them away from direct sunlight and oxygen the longer they will be able to keep their freshness. I make latte on the daily and since I got these I have consistently noticed having to change the grind settings less often. Hope this answer helps!

@@CheungD99 Interesting. I can see that the Fellow will take longer to extract the air, but I was imagining if the dual lid on the Airscape will be cumbersome to deal with. Glad that to hear that you like it. Will see if I can get a unit to try out too.

I own an Evak canister and it's a sad knockoff of the much more superior Airscape canister (which I also own). It's mostly about the tolerances of the sealing ring. The Evak has way too much play and allows the plunger lid to go cockeyed sometimes, violently spraying potentially dusty contents right into your face. The Airscape feels more like a solid piston that tightly hugs the cylinder wall. I also appreciate the light-blocking stainless steel in the Airscape over the clear plastic Evak. As for the Atmos canister for coffee storage, I'm not sure you necessarily want a vacuum system. Isn't that gradually removing the CO2 from the porous beans that contribute to that lovely crema in espressos?
@BensCoffeeRants3 жыл бұрын
I had a stainless steel Airscape and it was good as you described, I just got a medium ceramic airscape one and it also had a loose sealing piston, not sure if that's normal for that model or I got a bad one.
@voidremoved3 жыл бұрын
@@BensCoffeeRants it is a bad design. Even if the coffee beans are oily, so when you push the plunger further down s the contents deplete... Then the oil can interfere with the rubber ring and lose the seal. My advice is just air tight with a valve.
