I was an Administrator in EMS for years. Federal funding grants is what a lot of small community EMS and Fire depend on to help maintain their ability to stay volunteer. It’s no wonder they still think FEMA is to be defended. Then poop hits the fan and the community find out different. Politicians keep erasing long term memory. Some of us will never forget.

Lack of proactive positive management. At this time, the “Lame Duck” laisse-faire attitude, toooo slow tooo late, of action by government to supply immediate dire need. And the fact that the population in need, does not realize what the Federal Government can actually do. The government only wants to throw money very s l o w l y at peoples problems. In my own experience with FEMA was only 10 days to 2 weeks after the dire need medical, food, and shelter were met by local, religious and state entities.

As a Kentuckian for all 43 of my years, I wish I could say we are a libertarian state, but that’s not quite the case. Many voters here still believe that the republicans they vote in are for “small government”. Outside of his district, Thomas Massie isn’t well known, even though he’s a hero to liberty minded people across our country. Because he doesn’t play partisan politics, he’s not often (if at all) featured on Fox News which makes him an unknown. We have the potential in the Bluegrass State for a libertarian revolution, but not without a mass education of the public to awaken their eyes to the evil being perpetrated by all “sides” of government.

I am an elected Township Supervisor, and during the Covid about 1 1/2 years, our township was allocated a very small amount of money that could be had by applying for a refund of eligible items purchased during two eligible time periods. Fill out the online forms, submit the receipts and receive a check. There were two rounds of this. For the few hundred dollars available for reimbursement, I spent a lot of time figuring out how to apply online, and how to activate some kind of Federal number for funds receipt. We received the first small amount. But the second amount they declined. It was the same items which I purchased in the new eligible period, etc. They were not helpful at showing me what additional hoops to fulfill to get the second amount of money. I did not understand what additional issues there were. After a few months, the Illinois grant program closed up shop and it was over. This Illinois Covid grant program was a farce.

Towns have to stop sending their labor money out to these agencies. Towns have to start taking care of themselves and decentralize. These huge bureaucracies that were not here in the seventies and eighties had towns that had very low rates of crime. I know in my town, in the eighties, we have two cops and a tiny fire department. We had less crime, Today we have these HUGE police departments and fore departments and more drugs and more crime. How does any of this make sense? Time to come back down to earth and take care of our towns. We could build our own small nuclear energy generators, and grow a lot more of our own food. That is how it used to be, and we had less crime. I am sure those benefitting from our enslavement to these systems will promulgate a different narrative. And all those dependent on the jobs running this centralization system will defend it despite seeing their neighbors struggle, that is compartmentalization at its best.

The elephant in the room you aren't addressing is most communities refuse to pay the taxes necessary to be prepared for disasters.
@RebDalmasАй бұрын
@@mikeschnobrich1807 What is insurance? And what are taxes that go to the federal government? Are you saying town's peoples should stop paying homeowners insurance, and all taxes ( actually) and generate their own and account for disasters? Income and real estate taxes are already a scam - just look at the HUGE police and fire stations. It would probably be a good idea, give control back to the communities. We would probably build better, and manage our homes better because at the end of the day, we would be paying for whatever negligence we created. That would all be decentralization. We also have to change the money system. Time to pay everyone the same, because no doctor or engineer, or politician can do anything without the roads built of earth's freely give resources and the hands of many generations of men. We would find more peace and creativity and real no-harm innovation. It would being heaven to earth. Time to end top down hierarchies.

The flooding in Appalachia was completely predictable given the rainfall upstream of the affected areas. The National Weather Service is fairly good a forecasting rainfall so I wonder why evacuation orders were not issued for these areas? Also the dams and reservoirs upstream should have been releasing water well in advance of the storms arrival to make room for the flood waters. This needs to be looked into. I would bet anyone who tries will be hindered from getting this information. Storm water management is a science and FEMA sits at the top of it.
@jeffreyhaynes5722Ай бұрын
You are asking a very good question, but the answer is complicated. A good timeline is needed .From what I’ve read the danger of this storm was broadcast to people in Western North Carolina as early as 24 October. In Buncombe County, which is where Asheville is, there were several warnings put out up through the 26th in the evening. I think evacuation orders were given for people in flood areas on the 26th. Rain had already been falling from another storm and flood waters were already rising before Helene . Some people may have already been trapped before the hurricane arrived Communication is difficult in the mountains of North Carolina cell phone signals do not carry well there. Combine this with the toughness of these people in the belief that they can withstand anything there’s a certain hesitancy in these people to leave. I don’t think we should play a blame game on the warning nor preparedness for this event. A non-political committee should study this event and recommend Solutions for warning, people.
