@@greyalice She first came on stage when I saw her in a special way for me personally, too. It was during a tour where a supporting band who performed prior to them (Veridia) performed a song "I'll never be ready". The singer told a backstory about the song how she wrote it for her dying father, and I lost mine too, but long time ago, but still the wave of grief came back at that time. I had tears in my eyes, and then she introduced Amy to the stage. They hugged and then she proceeded to play the piano to accompany the song.
@notyoaveragesouthernmama5734 Жыл бұрын
I have been seeing Amy since 2003, even seeing her at Le Zénith while I was in college where their live album Anywhere but Home was recorded which was one of the best experiences of my life. The Synthesis tour was striking too. One of the most underrated aspects of Amy Lee is her killer stage presence. She is always gracious and courteous to bands she tours with (even if she is more popular than the headliner) and often brings opening bands' lead singers back out like Papa Roach to duet with her on songs like Bring Me to Life or sings Freak on a Leash with Korn at the end of the concert which is really neat. She is incredibly dynamic and versatile. Even if Amy is having a hard time vocally like at the end of a long stretch of a tour (she has a huge international fan base and a comparably large American one compared to others on this list and she is HUMAN after all and has hard days like ALL OF US) she always keeps her mic ON unabashedly and she keeps the fist-pumping energy high on songs like Going Under and Tourniquet or starts vulnerable on the piano and then brings in explosive guitars on songs like Call Me When You're Sober or Lithium, but also gets ALL the phones waving in the air while she seranades listeners on songs like My Immortal, Far from Heaven, or if you are lucky to see it live, songs like Hello. No one can go from headbanging to piano playing like Amy can. She can drastically adapt to circumstances and tours like when her gear got destroyed and she played a fully acoustic show in Russia, just her and the piano - I didn't see it in person but it was sublime! Her interpretational skills of songs are AMAZING too like her live cover of Korn's Thoughtless. Evanescence is such an amazing post-genre band that only Evanescence could tour with Muse, WagakkiBand, Seether, Korn, Halestorm, WT, AND Lindsey Stirling seamlessly. Evanescence has the open door (pun intended) for so many people into rock and metal that otherwise never would have listened to those genres. They certainly were for me.

Don't know about that last part. I've worked several concert venues and heard various performers from various genres. A majority sounded really good that I went back and listened to their albums. Many often outshined the studio version.
@joethesheep46752 жыл бұрын
@@Rzo139 surely highly depends on the genre. Didnt mean to say "every other genre than metal" and certainly you will have "good" and "bad" apples in all genres. Metal just seems to have much less of a problem here than many other genres.

Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox is my favorite female vocalist. Listen to Mara 1-3, top notch.

Also worth mentioning, good work in using outdoor stage festival shows for the comparisons, this is the type of performance with the most variables, the least control and "ideal" set-ups for the sound folks, so a comparable performance in such circumstances is indicative of first class talent (singer and sound techs both).
@MakeMeLo2 жыл бұрын
Yup they are definitely serious vocalists, way above mediocre! I love how more classically trained singers are finding their place in metal music.

When it's easier to tell an entire genre's studio and live vocals apart based on the audio mix rather than the actual singing... Yeah, they're good at what they do.

Some of them are out of breathe in some of their live which makes sense because they are performing for hours and sometimes days with non stop shows. Salute to these powerful ladies for keeping the music authentic and epic all throughout the process.

Better to see them do mistakes than watch some fake autotuned shows. That shows that they're real artists and real people
@welennelew98662 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can't compare a studio recording to a live performance In studio they can have as many takes as they like on 1 song alone and then still can add some more editing, in live performance they have to sing like 10 songs in succession which is insane and tough

And Charlotte got even better on stage compared to the video used here. You can hear even on the album versions of later songs that she is constantly learning new techniques and improving herself, she is definitely not sitting on her laurels.

there is a yearly female fronted metal festival i think in belgium. Or you could watch Ayreon musical projects. He is a talent hoarder. Where I live there was a goth festival Summer of Darkness where all talent of Europe just came to my town! but they stopped it.

I've seen Evanescence, OTEP, Kittie, Angelspit, and Jinjer live. All just as good if not better live. Tatiana and Roman sweating on me cause I was squashed against the stage at a dive bar in Philly. It was the greatest. She's like 5'1" and 101.3 pounds. Her weight is like a low grade fever. Her voice is pure power including her gutterals. I've also seen dozens of recordings of each these bands/artists live concerts or songs: Spiritbox, Obscure Sphinx, King Woman, Oathbreaker, Infected Rain, Blind Ivy, Som Pluijmers and Frantic Amber. All crush it.
