GREAT !!! we were looking for a van like that as we were in the US (we are from Germany). We didn't find anything in Florida, bought at least a Dodge Ram van 1500 without anything inside and we traveled 3 months through 23 states. We slept, cooked, traveled and had a good time. Our van is waiting for us in Massachusetts for the next trip.

Sweet! I tend to get all worked up over the silliest things sometimes, and this little score happens to be one of them. I've had a motorhome on my list of wants, forever. She had a for sale sign in the window for $4200, and I was standing next to her in conversation with a buddy for a good 20 min uninterested, at that price. Didn't even really look at her. Until the solar panels caught my eye! That was the tipping point. And the negotiations began. One thing led to the next, and 30 min later, I was driving her home:) Ohh Yeahh! Needless to say, it turned out to be a great day

Nice. However one of the rules for RVing is never, never drive down the road with your propane on, it's dangerous and it's illegal to have on when going through tunnels or over bridges, Some of these old models didn't have automatic shut off if pilot light went out.

Not a camper but Super plush interior, front and rear air, 4 swivel tilt captains chairs, table ect. it was friggin' awesome ! You could stand up and walk around in it, had a fridge/table and a big ol' fold down bed in the back. Brings back good memories, meet a cute girl, and ask "you want go go to the Lake"(in a rolling motel) LOL !

I grew up camping so I've heard of these types and all the other RV's and I love them all. I had an old 6-pak on the back of my truck and lived in it for 3 years and loved it... had my home whenever I went. I painted the inside of it, tiles the floor, added a toilet/thrown, took out the kitchen table for more room because I had drop down shelves for food etc... and most important, bought a nice mattress and slept like a baby. Had a sun roof right under my mattress so I was able to see all the stars falling and glittering... the good ol days!! Enjoy your camper fencekid!! =0 }

I'm an RV tech in San Antonio, and just went to the Stag RV Parts Convention. I ran into the rep for the Atwood water heaters and told him that a single red light showing that unit is lighting, but not running, was a silly design after all these years. It's too easy to forget your water heater is running and you can quickly drain your propane supply.

Oh, that would be the ultimate! No 4x4 here. It's basically a heavy duty, 1 ton delivery truck chassis with a big 440 under the hood, paired with a low geared, 3 speed, automatic trans. RPMs are screemin at 65 mph. Feels like you need an overdrive gear. It's not a fast ride, but it's a hella boat puller and hill climber! Hopefully a carb rebuild will improve my 8-9 mpg. Can't wait fer summer.

@PAPOOSELAKESURFER11 жыл бұрын
Four wheel drive can be a fuel economy penalty. Switching to limited slip rear end far cheaper, and often enough, even in snow with chains. A small gas generator (1000 watt) can back up battery with a charger, extend use of tv (1000 watt inverter can run down battery fast). A come along (cable puller) with strong rope or chain and concrete steel stake and hammer for anchor can help pull out of sand, making up for no 4WD or limited slip rear end. True 4WD conditions are no place for motorhome anyway. Add small back packing water filter for extended safety if on board tank runs out. Good video.

I like what you did there and that solar panel idea.. Here's my two cents....but this is just me...ok 1. light weight folding chairs x2 Roof Racks,with lock box for small BBQ, cook stuff, tools, 2. some kind of fold up or drop down desk/computer/utility table, a small exterior hand cranked awning for summer days outside the van, good hand broom and oh a para-scope with low lux or night vision security cam with motion detection and sound pick up you can hear even the lowest whisper at 30 paces so you can see/hear whats happening around you and last, a strong handheld follow spot light... These were nice vans, but vintage age may be questionable for any major road trips. I've always liked them for compact size. By the way, fridge usually runs off the propane tank and shore power as a 2-way. Some do also use battery power as a 3-way, but you made it sound like battery only. It would drain your batteries in no time. I hope you are not living full time in a small van with two large Lab dogs? Good luck on restorations, and hope you enjoy your van a long time! Its a lot of fun to have an RV!

I just bought the exact same model, 1979 Dodge Sportsman, looking for a good solar system and a friend of mine said since there is a carburetor, it could be easily converter over to water. Mine had only 42K original miles, the guy I bought it from bought it from the original owner. I have a lot of work to do, but I also have an A/C, new fridge, microwave, four burner stove, shower...want to see if I can get a composting toilet instead.

I luv these vehicles, back in the day the big mod was to slip in a dana/spicer transfer case and a dana 60 front end ,they make kikass 4x4s... ditch the coils and go with front leafs, its a bit of work but really over all the parts can all be found in wrecking yards and needs very little fabrication...do You still have this?

I have a 1976 Dodge Sportsman Holiday Rambler 1 Ton RV with the LA 360 and automatic 3 speed Allison Transmission. Still runs great although the interior has been changed quite a bit since it was originally purchased from the previous owner. The original generator conked out so I removed it to make a battery bank out of it's compartment. The roof mounted A/C still runs but the cab A/C is shot. Currently fixing a water leak so I can use the water in the RV again. Everything else runs great!

@MrBeprepared12311 жыл бұрын
so does this thing run on 100% solar power? there was a truck that can haul 1000 lbs called the xebra. I am experimenting myself. There are flexible solar panels that are almost as good as the slanted ones. I saw a solar power house use them for the entire outside of the house covering the bricks to give you even more electricity. I was thinking a rv or a bus with a storage area under it for batteries and storing items and game
@VanlifewithAlan12 жыл бұрын
Solar power more depends on how much sun there is rather than the size of the panels. So if you are somewhere south with good panels you may be able to get as much as 80Ah per day.
