I'm so glad I finally clicked on an 'Ultra' series showcase. I never did because I thought 'Ah, well it's active, so it won't sound like a "real" p-bass', but it totally does. I'll have to check some more videos about this series out.
@Dartania3 жыл бұрын
This instrument sounds amazing and versatile. Not sure why the American Ultra Jazz Bass and Jazz seem to get more love (including from Fender, see the neck binding on those), way more videos of those basses on KZbin.. Videos like this are very valuable then for helping people learn about the Ultra P. bass.

First off, pentatonic scale is where most people want you. Take it from someone that has played on quite a few known and not-so-known albums. I have other ways in my "box", but 99% of the artists cock their head quizzically when I pull much of that out. 😀 Outstanding review! I have a couple of passive P-basses. I was curious about picking up an active one.

Picked up an Ultra P about a year and a half ago and literally haven't put it down since. Those high treble tones kick into play when you have old strings. The neck is sublime. Great review. Still love watching it. Thanks.

am i right to say if you have difficulty choosing between precision of jazz bas, this is the solution too have both in one and in any case a very nice p bass? i am looking a bass to record mostly, and i understood many times the p bass is more suited for that. But being able to make a sound more close to jazz bass, i could still achieve that?
@paulevans43345 жыл бұрын
Yeah that sound like a P bass which ever pickup you use. These ultra p basses are the best sounding ones in a long time

Amazing playing and review! What strings do you recommend for this? I have the Elite and love the bass but the strings that came with it leave something to be desired. Keep em coming!
@richardfittonperkins19263 жыл бұрын
Try Elixir Nanoweb strings - I use their 40-95 set on most of my Fenders. They give a very clear and defined tone & last about ten times longer than other brands without the nanoweb coating.
@phipschi42553 жыл бұрын
@@richardfittonperkins1926 how low is the string tension on that set? sounds like it would be kinda low
@richardfittonperkins19263 жыл бұрын
@@phipschi4255 You still get nice string tension with the 40-95 set, just more flexibility for bends. Try them. Most you’ll have to change action height is about half a turn at the bridge saddles if you usually use 45-105. They give a lovely punchy fundamental sound too.

When comparing the recent ultra pbass videos to the elite pbass videos I've seen, the ultra seems to me to sound generally fatter and more 'raspy' than the elite (which is more pleasing to me). Perhaps it's just different amps/recording/players etc. Anthony, would you say there is a difference in sound between the ultra vs. elite series (pbass-neck pickup in particular)?
@EmpireMusicPgh5 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark - Anthony here. I didn't do a straight A/B comparison, as we don't have the elite in-stock any longer. You're spot on though, sounded very big and thumpy! I didn't need to boost the bass on the eq to achieve that either. My take away from the entire line was that they nailed the classic Fender sounds, but with added flexibility and tone sculpting when you want it... and no matter what you do eq-wise (within reason) you never get too far away from "The Fender Sound"

I can understand calling a Precision bass a ‘p’ bass, because I totally get that 3 syllables is just a hassle, but calling a Jazz bass a ‘j’ bass.... I don’t feel that so much. And I won’t even mention the whole ‘vers’ instead of ‘versus’.
