I did not know this bass existed. Fantastic creation!

Off topic, but do you know what stripper I should try on a acoustic bridge I just removed? I want to take off the old ugly finish without messing it up too bad and refinish with dye and TruOil before putting it back on. The bridge is not damaged, just ugly.

Would think you'd sand it back.

@@mrbungle7586 The ugly, old finish is still pretty hard. I was hoping to easily strip it off without being too aggressive with the sanding. I also don't want to alter any details on it. I'd like to smooth sand it with a fine grit after the old finish is off. Ideas?

@@yobentley7274 yeah I get where your coming from. The Stringman should be able to help with that. Do you know what type of wood it is? I have a bass I'm due to pick up early next, being modified by a guitar builder who's looked after my gear for 25 years. Acoustic guitars are his specialty, I could ask him when I pick it up if you can wait a few days. Cheers

@@mrbungle7586 Thanks man. I am guessing it is not rosewood, ebony or mahogany. It is light colored on the unfinished bottom. It is a Kay classical guitar from the late 1960's. Maybe hard maple? I have time. I have to fit new tuners and shave the bottom of the bridge to the proper height first. Let me know ideas. Thanks again.

@@yobentley7274 no worries, I'll ask him. Where are you from? I'm from Australia, he'll be able to give advice regardless of what type of wood it is and the info you provided will help.

Flatwounds on a MM jbass? It defeats the whole purpose of owning a Marcus Miller with a active preamp.

Not my bass. I do what owner wants. Thanks for watching.

You’re tripping. All flats don’t have the same tones, tension, and feel. And it ALWAYS is the player’s preference on what vibe they’re going for. The MM is just a jazz bass, PERIOD! It’s not a “slap” bass. And YES you can “slap” and thump on flats. There are countless classic records with iconic bassists “slapping” on flatwound strings. You’ve clearly never tried. You sound like a guy who knows just enough to be dangerous, and that’s apparent considering your comment.

@@stringmanguitars4329lol, it's like the 1st time you've seen a bass guitar. Yeah, signatures models, I know them. Guessing you never heard of MM before.

@@mrbungle7586 I'm not real familiar with him. Heard of him through his affiliation with Sire. No I don't know all of the artists in all genres. Sorry. I did look him up when I got this bass to work on and am quite impressed with his resume.

@@stringmanguitars4329thanks for the reply, yes his a legend in the bass world. That MM Jazz were either MIJ, CIJ, then they made the 4 string in Mexico at a certain point and made a 5 string in USA. So you were impressed with it.? I have a 2004 CIJ and just changing the preamp from the stock to a J East retro.
