A very interesting, detailed, and exhaustive evaluation of the circuit, Jordan. Aspiring amp techs could learn a lot from your methodical approach and thought processes. Thanks for posting this.

The method for documenting these projects was based of off some inspiration from your videos as well as El paso tube amps and Mr Carlson. This new format started with the ST70 resurrection series kzbin.info/aero/PLK_zQ6_j4TF13qvrS3i2fw-p9trdjUhVm

I see ou have a Hantek scope. I have a DSO5102P myself. the amp should not even be power up without replacing the bias cap. I always replace them with a 100V cap just for the extra margin of safety. That is an amazing clean amp, WOW!

I am also one of those non capacitor trusting individuals, you might find me running something original only because I have several instruments to check the cap to provide a reasonable expectation of not failing during a turn up event

Jesus! based on the serial number this is a 1966 Black Face!! it almost looks like New Old Stock... whoever owns this has done an amazing job of keeping it nearly new.. wow! what a closet find....This is easily a $2500-$3000 value amp....

Its been running perfect at the shop since my work with no issues whatsoever.

This amp is the absolute definition of a closet find.....

Nice video. I wouldn't discount a 50 uF cap that read 75uF. Terrible tolerances were the norm back in the day-- stuff like +100%/-50%. However, I agree that any old electrolytic is out of there anyway, and will have zero effect on the sound.

the 75uf ended up with a 100uf at the end of the day. Id hate to think the amp would eat the 6V6 tubes for loosing the bias circuit due to the failure of its last remaining original electrolytic capacitor.

I've got a 1979 silver face deluxe reverb. looks to be a similar speaker. Mine is a CTS... for 1966, this speaker is likely oxford or maybe a Utah, but it looks just like my 1979 CTS....

that the bias cap which is very important

Oh it gets worse than this..... Some videos do the power factor of each capacitor on paper....

theses screen resistors are wrong too

Looks like one was a one (1) watt and the other a two (2) watt. Put a one (1) ohm resistor from cathode to ground to measure bias current if it doesn't have them already installed.

@@retrotechandelectronics ah but still cant hear you in this video... All good Had the Guitar tec look at it to find out the input male jack was grounding out inside... Every one corrects spelling but never own attitudes... May I point out how screwed up the world is , we are worried about here and hear..lol..Was the only video I could find with the same issue same amp..
