Hands down the best review you could ever watch on this guitar. I have exactly the same one and have been using it for the past year. It has to be the most versatile and yet underrated guitar there has ever been. There is an a screw to tighten on the tremolo to stop the trem arm falling out and it is possible to get them to stay in tune by adjusting the spring tension. Great review thanks.

Extremely great guitar for the price. Excellent tones. Can get that crisp glassy tone, out of phase quacky tone, and also that smoother smokey tone. Takes distortion(especially on the bridge pick up) surprisingly well too. I just recommend turning the tone down a tad. Recommend using the tremelo bar just for "slight tremolo". HIGHLY recommend using 10 or 11 gauge strings. Preferably 11s but 10 is fine.

Great review! Just to show how flexible the Mustang is, another player was John McLaughlin (later of the Mahavishnu Orchestra) who played one on the classic Miles Davis albums around '69-'71 so that includes Bitches Brew, Live Evil, On The Corner and, best of all for guitar, Tribute to Jack Johnson. (I'd always assumed it was some kind of Gibson as he used a Les Paul and the SG Doubleneck with Mahavishnu but I was, as usual, wrong.)

Todd Rundgren was very keen on these for a while. In my early days of electric guitaring start of the 1980s I mistook his mustang for a strat and bought a strat type to be like him. I only realised my mistake last year and bought one of this model (in sonic blue). Great sounding instrument; I love it. Sounds and feels very different to a strat. I am trying to set the trem up properly so I can achieve Todd's quite extreme use of it but that set-up is proving tricky despite some YT advice on the subject.

1:52 No they're not rubbish when they're set up properly! The tremelo on that Squier is not set up right. The tremelo arm is supposed to be parallel to the body and the tube is not supposed to be touching or that close to the plate. The bar doesn't just fall out, there's a set screw on the side that locks it in place. I think the biggest misconception about the Mustang is they don't stay in tune because of the Tremelo. Ask Todd Rundgren about it! He was a mad man with the vibrato on his Mustang and he could go a few songs without having to tune it using the trem regularly.

I wonder how it compares to the Squire Cyclone

Same but different I'd guess? :)

You people are wrong about the trem, put the springs on the highest tension and it will not go out of tune.

Awesome review through and through. It sounds fantastic - would it be possible to know what amp and FX you're using in this video to have a clearer picture? Thanks a lot!

Hey Stephane, I know i used the blackstar studio 10 el34 amp in this but not sure what’s on the ‘board. Sorry that’s all I know for sure as It was an older video and back then I didn’t list the signal chain in description box 🤷♂️

@@theguitaristas Awesome! Thanks for respoding, I have a Blackstar HT40, also EL34 so this is perfect haha. 'm just learning guitar at a quite advanced age. I have a Squier J.Mascis Jazzmaster, adore the sound of it, but having trouble learning because of neck length & small hands so I'm considering a Mustang or Jaguar for a shorter neck. Would you recommend this one? Or a better alternative? The new Squier Jaguar Contemporary HH looks great.Thanks again.

@@stephanemonnier9659 These Blackstars are awesome amps so your on the right track! If you like the Jazzmaster style I'd definitely recommend the Squier Mustang or Jaguar... both shorter scale and more manageable so will make your life a lot easier!

Todd Rundgren actually made pretty good use of the Mustang tremelo.

There are also a few other things that set Todd Rundgren and myself apart... 🤣👍

I like shorter neck scale on guitars makes everything a lot easier especially for me as i have very small hands but like to play that tough Yngwie or Steve Vai stuff , A Mustang can do that stuff if you are half decent at guitar.
@theguitaristas2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Christine, agreed!... the mustang can do it all but you probably just need to go easy on the dive bombing with this whammy! 😁

@@theguitaristas I never use the Trem on my 🎸 guitars I mainly play Teles or Strats always hard tail models not a fan of the 80s Floyd rose thing , Hendrix did it best as back in those days he had to perfectly judge the pitch after going into space on his Trem lol
