Yes yes and yes. There's a gaping hole in the market for a quality, 335 type Korean made sem-hollow. The closest thing is the Reverend Manta Ray / Tricky Gomez, which is pretty divisive style-wise. I once mentioned it to Paul Reed Smith when I met him, he said "wow that's a great idea for the SE line", yet PRS has yet to deliver one :/

I'm with the cap10 on this one about the looks. The Coronado to me is too much of a 335 (or Casino, Riviera etc) with a fender headstock, whereas the Starcaster has that fender personality. It even has a bit of an offset design like the Jaguar and jazzmaster. And I love that headstock!

Rob, what are you on mate? haha. That Starcaster is one of the coolest/ prettiest looking guitars I have ever seen. It most certainly floats my boat.
It's unfortunate, IMHO, that Fender didn't do a more faithful reissue of the Starcaster. This reissue is missing many -- perhaps most -- of the very features that made the Starcaster so weird, unique, and beautiful-sounding. There was never a guitar with the Starcaster's specific specs (wood, construction, scale, pickups), and there hasn't been one since. The biggest mistake is the addition of a center block. The original was fully hollow, and the resulting sound was just amazing, especially when played clean. Example: some of the most amazing clean tones on Radiohead's OK Computer are Ed playing his vintage Starcaster through his Mesa Boogie. The other MAJOR difference is the difference in the pickups. The original Fender Wide Range pickups had a different construction leading to a sound with more clarity and high end, and less of that outright humbucker sound, but Fender hasn't made the Wide Range with the vintage construction for many years, so that's not surprising. They're both very nice guitars, nonetheless, but I wish Fender had hewn a little more closely to the original Starcaster.
@GavinMorris110 жыл бұрын
Same with the Coronado. I had an original and loved everything about it except the tuning stability.
@TheFruitMugger5 жыл бұрын
As someone who has played on an original Starcaster and looked inside the body cavities, I can assure you that it was only semi-hollow. There was absolutely a center block in the original.

I like lots about this guitar. Just bought one off of Reverb.com which isn't here yet. But I like the center block, I like the semi acoustic body, I like offset waist designs, prefer Jaguars to Strats etc. Need a little Fender jangly tone to cut through the mix. So anyway one of these is on the way to the house. Also called Fender tech support. Was told that any Fender 22 fret Strat neck with no overhang would fit this body. Found one, ordered it too - so that's that - goodby goofy headstock. We'll see how it turns out with a maple Strat replacement neck on it. Hoping for the best, Ron

I have a reissue Starcaster "yellow" or natural or whatever that is. I love it. I like the offset body and like the tones. It has a little sharper bite than the average 335 type guitar but it has the center block and doesn't feed back. I also reside in hideous camp but have access to a local master luthier who is an artist with a bandsaw. Took a photo of the Starcaster headstock and a Strat. Resized the Strat picture until the tuning pegs matched up with the Starcaster photo and determined that there was enough "extra" headstock wood to just cut a Strat shape headstock out of the OEM Starcaster headstock. Didn't have to replace the neck; which, by the way is a bear, as this thing doesn't have a normal neck pocket. Reshaped the headstock and refinished the neck and went back to work. Cuts through the mix a lot like a Tele but feels and plays a lot like a 335. Pretty cool! and no longer hideous!
