I work professionally with those two and I record a looot of music, the strat has that metallic low-end that is not suit for distorted genres except if you are going for a crushed john frusciante / red hot tone or strummed stuff. The neck pickups on the strat are immaculate, and that's another thing. Les Pauls are easier to mix in heavier rock, easier to place, and the tone is not metallic but really creamy even on the bridge pickups.

It almost seems like the style of music you play will make a big difference. Almost all country stars use Fender Telecasters, almost all classic/easy rock use Stratocasters and most loud/hard rockers use Les Pauls. I myself go with a Strat hands down. I've owned both and the Strats seem more comfortable to play. I have always liked the look and shape of pretty much all the Fenders as well, but what ever floats your boat, they both are great guitars all the way!!!

15 years ago, I watched a similar video and picked Les Paul. Never looked back. That sound is the definition of soul. One thing should be noted though... the sound difference in the specific pickups for Les Paul is quite big. Not sure how is it with Strat. But for LP, which model you buy makes a big difference.

Amazing video. Love that there’s no 30 minute intro before getting into it. Also I don’t know why I searched this. Maybe cos I decided to pick up the strat and be like wtf is this, where is all the soul. But didn’t have time to pick my les paul and plug it in before going to work and had to really get this idea recorded. Anyway now I know why I got the shock, cos I almost never plug the strat in. It’s like a guitar which sits on a stand for me to plink when waiting for an advert or something.

Both of this guitars interact with a amp differently. For example a les paul would sound more cranked and muddy than a strat or a tele in the same settings. Strat are more thiner sounding, but les paul are more fatter sounding. I feel allthough you could dial in the tone and volume on this guitars. I feel its more work to dial in a good sound on a les paul than other guitars, but that would be easier with experience. I think strat or tele are more easier to manuever. I would recommend strat or tele for beginners. Les Paul are great. I own one. I have had Squier strat and Fender tele before. I also had a Squier Jazzmaster but I hated that the bridge went out of place. Great sound though.

Got a Strat and a Gibson Explorer, two wonderful guitars. None is better than the other, they're great for different things.

maybe a fender HSS or HSH to compare with the LP HB?

Both sound alike the difference is the player because the player has their own setup and style fender is what I play because less Paul are always priced way to high because all les Paul does is get more valuable with every year

This is the 3rd time a video of yours has been on the topic I'm currently contemplating.....coincidence? I think not. I'll be keeping my eyes on you, Toby.......

Ah mate, have just found your channel. Immediately my absolute favorite channel. Haha great stuff. Killer tones, sweet playing, clean editing, and the beautiful simplicity. Love the content. My only complaint would be that I would really want to know the names of the songs you play. Man, you got a really nice taste of music and I would not want to miss out the repertoire of yours.

Thanks, it is really appreciated. I was going to put the names of all the songs up with the album art in the corner but I had to change that idea because they get copyrighted and blocked in multiple regions if I do that 😞

The Fender sounds much cleaner and smoother, the Gibson is more opaque and darker. I don't like

The Gibson is full and thick, the Fender is thin and weak. Surprisingly, even or especially cleans were better on the Gibson.

I prefer the strat for clean tones, but Gibson for anything with distortion.

Toyota v Honda, Peavey v Marshall, Gibson v Fender. Don’t think either is better. It’s what you feel fits you best cuz you’re the one playing it. I always felt ergonomically the Strat has too thin of a neck for me. The Paul fits me best.

I know nothing about guitars. I have no ear for music. I dont know which is which so i thought id see if i notice a difference between what i think are the two kings. When i saw the thumbnail, i thought... i like the red one a lot better. I like the look of the fender over the gibson. Hearing them, the fender is brighter and a touch higher. the gibson is softer and warmer. If i was to give guitars a go, by this video comparison, i really like the sound of the gibson.
