I guess you had the same settings on both speakers wich is a way to compare these. But in reallity you’ll allways search for the sweetspot of the setup to get the best result, and both speakers have other sweetspots.

Amazing comparison video. Well done. I would recommend against the pickup changes during examples. Brain can’t hold the tone to compare when you switch speakers. Loved the video nonetheless. 5 stars. Liked.

The Speed Shop A12Q sounds less bright than the P12Q. No surprise to me, because Jensen is known for their wide range sounding speakers, especially in the high end. If you notice a P12Q is too harsh for your needs, you can replace your dust cap with a larger one and you're done! I've done that with my speakers and it works great. Sometimes paper dust caps are not the best way to go and moreover it doesn't require any special skills (just some speaker glue).

Thanks. I must say though, this is almost a top notch comparison but for the switches of dual pickup settings from speaker to speaker, very confusing at those moments.

Is this the same as the weber 12a125a? since it says weber in the title

The Jensen sounded very boxy once overdriven. The A12Q cleared out the midrange and gave it more of an almost blackface feel. For people who are annoyned at the "too much midrange" factor of the P12Q's or Celestion Blue, the A12Q seems like a good choice.
@tconnell11214 жыл бұрын
couldn't disagree more. To me the Jensen handled the overdrive much more smoothly. I guess it's just a matter of whether you want that smooth breakup or that clean at all costs sound.
@sallucido32492 жыл бұрын
A "blackface " feel? This is a tweed style amp....you don't want the midrange "cleared out". If you want the midrange cleared out, buy a Radio Shack speaker.

I put the Weber 12A125A in my Victoria Ivy League. It was very bad sounding at first. Set the looper pedal with chord progressions and let it go for 2 days. After the break in the Weber sounds fantastic.
@bross634 жыл бұрын
When comparing amps, speakers, etc using pedals in the signal chain only takes away from the true comparison being done. In this case the amp being used produces fantastic tube saturation overdrive, so using a pedal isn’t necessary and again only “clutters” the signal chain. There is still clear difference between these two speakers. However if the differences in them were more subtle then a cleaner signal chain would be even more important. Everything in the signal chain adds its own coloring, so it’s best to eliminate all unnecessary elements in that chain.

people use pedals, so you wanna know how the speaker will react...

Yeah, I don't get it either. Why demo the speakers through a 5E3 and not use the amp's natural distortion? Very disappointing. And did he really demo the speakers without a cab on the floor? I kind of doubt it, but then again...🤷♂️ I'm looking for a speaker for a 5E3 and I'm mainly concerned with how it sounds overdriven.
@rickschiller2 жыл бұрын
The Jensen has more clarity and more body. The Weber speaker sounds constrained in comparison and tone wise the Jensen is warmer and more pleasing. YMMV
@epajanssen5 жыл бұрын
Shnobel, did the Speed Shop need a so-called break in? I’ve put one in a tweed amp, done some band rehearsals with it, but it still sounds very bright and thin, much like in this clip.
@zz-np2sr5 жыл бұрын
From Speedshop website under A12Q FAQ's "Please allow for at least 50 hours of break-in time where the A12Q will begin to loosen up a bit, exhibiting slightly more nuance and complexity, with a slight increase in high end response as well. From there it will only get better. Note: For proper break-in, please just play your guitar and avoid any schemes involving tone generators and variacs. The A12Q sounds really good right out of the box."

in looking to re driver my dead 70's super twin reverb and they were Jensen but I'm looking for that sparkle only with Higher power handling . I killed the originals with a DOD death metal pedal and the 6 6l6's to much bass to long :( thanks for the review
@bartvschuylenburg5 жыл бұрын
I have old Eminence alnico speakers in my Super Twin Reverb. Sounds amazing, a lot better than the square backs that i’ve heard in other str’s. By the way, you can pull two outer 6l6’s out of the amp an with two 16 ohm speakers (makes a speakerload of 8 ohm) you’re left with 100 watt’s. It improves the sound and workabillity. If you want new speakers get WGS G12A. But don’t run the full 180 watt into ‘em.

Obviously the Jensen is more efficient and has a richer, wider frequency response than the Weber made Jensen clone. This is important in a lower powered tweed style amp.

Jensen sounds much better in this comparison. Much fuller frequency spectrum. The Speed Shop is all mids - thin and crunchy sounding.

On the A12Q -why bother recreating at such a cost when you can create a new improved model for less?Why not a 20oz alnico with more oomph than the 7/11 oz Jensens but not as loud as the 40oz Jensens/Celestion/Webers?Tone Tubby has a 17oz in a low profile format...hmm,something different,will likely fit a Blues Junior and Bassbreaker in addition to a 5e3.You can crank the amp and not go deaf and it has a bit more low end punch.Now THAT is a useful endeavor.Haven't tried one but I'm intrigued. And Epstein didn't kill himself

Useless. Why are you switching pickups? You end the P12Q playback on one pickup and then start the A12Q playback on a different pickup. So you are supposed to remember what the first speaker sounded like on the first pickup? I don't get it.

Weber all the way....It has a tolerable high end and not that ice pick.... Just to reiterate what is already known. A Weber "IS A VINTAGE JENSEN" in terms of parts compatibility. The cones, voice coils, spider all interchange, and that is why Weber offers recones on Vintage Jensen Speakers, but not the Italian made reissue Jensens. One other word of thought. Besides breaking in a cone, Alnico is going to degauss over time. The Weber is likely the closest thing to what a Vintage Jensen P12Q sounded like when it was new. To make a comparison to an original, the degaussing needs to be factored in. The weakened magnet will cause compression and a loss of sensitivity. Another thing to remember concerning the voicing of the speaker. This is a Tweed Deluxe speaker, not BF/SF Deluxe Reverb speaker. That is to say, by design, it is very bright, brash, late breakup, with a highly ribbed cone. The Tweed Deluxe is a dark, grungy circuit that benefits from this voicing. However amps with a lot of presence like BF Fenders will not like this speaker at all....For that application a Jensen C12N or Weber 12F150 are more appropriate.
@sallucido32492 жыл бұрын
"Ice pick", huh? If you knew anything about Jensens, you'd know that they produce clear, chimey, high end responce. You can make up whatever negative term you want but the truth is that people like more high end in a guitar speaker......there's nothing worse than a dull speaker.

Ever notice in 95% of all KZbin videos that pit Jensen RIs vs “Whatever Brand” Jensen RIs seem to get the most votes. (Just like in this vid) .. and I agree with the majority opinion here... Clearly the Jensen RIs P12Q is the better speaker. (Against Weber’s 12A125 flagship speaker no less) This flies in the face with the typical opinions on gear sites like TDPRI or TGP
