I do not believe narcan would have been necessary due to there not being any drugs ingested in this video. There is no way for the drug to have gotten into his system. "The American College of Medical Toxicology and the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology issued a joint report in 2017 asserting the risk of fentanyl overdose via incidental transdermal exposure is very low, and it would take 200 min of breathing fentanyl at the highest airborne concentrations to yield a therapeutic dose, but not a potentially fatal one". It wasn’t an overdose. They admitted it: “Undersheriff Kelly Martinez, the second in command at the San Diego County Sheriff’s department, said she was sorry if a viral video of a deputy supposedly overdosing from fentanyl hurt the department’s credibility. The video was quickly and swiftly challenged after its release, as medical professionals lined up to argue that the deputy did not show signs of a fentanyl overdose and that it’s not possible to overdose by merely touching the substance. Large numbers of people have died from consuming fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, but even high doses are unlikely to be absorbed through the skin. Dr. Priscilla Hanudel, an emergency medicine physician in Los Angeles, says the officer was more likely to have fainted or suffered a seizure than to have had any reaction to the potent opioid just by having it flying around in the vehicle and breathing it in. Hanudel says even in the manufacturing process, "it takes about 200 minutes of exposure to reach a starting dose," she said. "It'd be very unlikely to happen in a very brief exposure."”

I don't mean to make a sour note, but it's impossible to come in contact with fentynal and od like this. There's been multiple studies explaining this. I read it's most likely panic attacks because the officers are so scared of it. You could crush a brick of itl in your palm and be fine. Inhaling takes around 2,000 MG on average to OD which would take a very, very long time to inhale in that position. Not a cop hater just wanted to share this isn't what we think. They should not be on duty without all there equipment needed to handle deadly drugs that's on the streets nowadays. More training needed on how to properly handle dangerous deadly drugs.

I saw several people debating whether this officer OD'd or not. I'd like to offer my analysis in steps. 1.) This is not a "propaganda" video. This incident really happened, the attempted burglary and all. 2.) The officers found 3 different baggies, one partially opened, containing different substances in all 3. The first 2 registered as fentanyl. The third appeared as heroin to the more experienced officer. Its test results were not mentioned, and it's likely they weren't even tested, because the officer who OD'd says that they spilled on the testing area, and he wipes the powder into a bag, that's when the other officer tells him to double bag it. He leans toward it, grabbing a bag from below. 3.) Fentanyl is unlikely to be the culprit, according to medical specialists, but those reports were based on a 4-minute edited video provided by the Sheriff's office. People in the comments below claiming to be EMTs say it looks real to them. That's because it is, and it's because of what is in that third baggie, and it's not fentanyl. 4.) It's methamphetamine mixed with carfentanil. Carfentanil is about 100 times morepotent than fentanyl, and indeed can seep through skin, and is used as an animal tranquilizer and has a faster action than that of fentanyl. It's likely the officer got some on his gloves, as he can be seen wiping his nose and face moments before he collapses, although i'd say his exposure starts at the suspect vehicle when finding the drugs. Here is an exerpt from a CDC/DEA warning to Emergency Responders about carfentanil and its danger to officers: "“Carfentanil is surfacing in more and more communities.” said DEA Acting Administrator Chuck Rosenberg. “We see it on the streets, often disguised as heroin. It is crazy dangerous. Synthetics such as fentanyl and carfentanil can kill you. I hope our first responders - and the public - will read and heed our health and safety warning. These men and women have remarkably difficult jobs and we need them to be well and healthy.” Carfentanil is a Schedule II substance under the Controlled Substances Act and is used as a tranquilizing agent for elephants and other large mammals. The lethal dose range for carfentanil in humans is unknown. However, as noted, carfentanil is approximately 100 times more potent than fentanyl, which can be lethal at the 2-milligram range, depending on route of administration and other factors. Carfentanil and other fentanyl-related compounds are a serious danger to public safety, first responder, medical, treatment, and laboratory personnel. These substances can come in several forms, including powder, blotter paper, tablets, and spray - they can be absorbed through the skin or accidental inhalation of airborne powder. If encountered, responding personnel should do the following based on the specific situation:" 5.)Carfentanil is often mixed with methamphetamine to counter the sedative effects of the drug, this is a drug that would be popular among dealers, and likely not offered often to casual users. If carfentanil is offered to a user, it would be cut heavily in order to mimick fentanyl. 6.) Some people claim the Narcan did not work on this officer, therefore he must not have opiates in his system. I've seen people need 8 or more doses of Narcan before they came back to, and that was just for heroin. Carfentanil would be about 500-1000 times more potent than heroin, even in a small accidental dose such as this. Breathing it in would be about as fast acting a method as possible, meaning he could have OD'd within 10 minutes of exposure, if not even perhaps a few seconds or minutes. 7.) In my opinion the Narcan DID work, but barely. According to the witnesses, he was given more Narcan in the Ambulance. He was completely unresponsive and siezing in the officer's hands until the Narcan kicked in, and continued seizing later on. 8.) Carfentanil has killed many users who think they're getting fentanyl, but are actually getting carfentanil that has not been cut right. Mixing either fentanyl or carfentanil (or even heroin or morphine for that matter) with amphetamines or methamphetamine is VERY dangerous, although the high it produces could perhaps be called second to none, although MDA/MDMA is perhaps the best of highs, as is 2CB/LSD.
@tirkentube2 жыл бұрын
it should also be noted that the substances found in the first two bags were "methamphetamine, fentanyl, and flourofentanyl" flourofentanyl is a fentanyl analogue, and there are about 1000 different (no lie, about 1000) analogues of fentanyl, all of which are schedule 1. only fentanyl is allowed to be used medically, as the others are unpredictable, and are now often only found on the black market. Carfentinil is schedule 2 because it is still used as an elephant tranq. The methamphetamine found in the first 2 baggies confirms my suspicion of the carfentinil (which would show up as flourofentanyl OR fentanyl) mixed with meth.

I became addicted to them using them as prescribed and it made my life a living hell. Some people look down on addicts and make them out to be lazy and stupid for becoming addicted to a drug that takes over your life, a LOT of us became that way out of no fault of our own and getting off these drugs is a nightmare but maintaining the habit is even worse because it makes the person who other wise would never be in that crowd of people turn to criminal activity to support the never ending urge to use and the punishment your body deals to you if you don't. They should have a testing site at the station for them to bring it to. NOT have direct contact with a bunch of unknown substances/poison. Even with gloves, that is nowhere near safe for anyone.

I agree that it's very unsafe to be testing these drugs out in the public like this but you could even hear the officer say "do you have a N95 mask" which is something I believe all officers should now carry in there cars. Fentanyl does not do this. The officer had a psychological panic reaction and fainted from that. @@calise7988it's like you fools don't realize that multiple things can be true at one time. He can definitely have a panic attack while starting to OD, since that shit is terrifying if you're not a drug user, or even if you are..... Combine heavy tactical gear, a full bulletproof vest, all that tight gear on, then the stress of dealing with the shit to begin with, and then combine it with someone who is 100% opiate naive and prone to panic attacks anyway and boom..... It's incredible that you're just going all over this comment section talking nonsense about subjects you clearly know nothing about..... What happened to him doesn't look like a only a panic attack anymore than it looks like only an OD... It looks like exactly what it was, a combination of both things. He had respiratory suppression from 4 major factors. Heat, gear restrictions, fentanyl, and the onset of a panic attack............... You're making yourself not sound too bright.

I realize this makes me sound like a piece of you know what, but I've lost so many friends and family to overdoses that it guts me when I hear these stories. I myself went through something similar, and now it'll follow me around for the rest of my life. I have always been a workaholic, ever since I was a teenager. I would work 20 hours straight, come home, eat, smoke some weed, and sleep for an hour or two, and do it all over again. I worked like that for 3.5 years, and I got physically sick from lack of sleep. Fast forward to 2010...I came home after working night shift and being up for over 22 hours and my wife and I were playing with our baby. I literally just passed out while sitting on the couch. My wife got worried and called 911. An ambulance showed up and the paramedics injected me with three different things before they tried Narcan, and that's what woke me up, so they put in my record that I had an overdose. They took me to the hospital and they drug tested my blood. The only thing they found in my system was a faint trace of cocaine, so they said that I OD'd from cocaine...but why would I need Narcan for a cocaine overdose? Yes, I had taken some cocaine about 3 or 4 days before, but it was only one small line and it was garbage, so I didn't do any more. Anyway, I'm 39 now and I don't take or do anything anymore. Not only did I learn my lesson many times over, but I have a bigger family now, and I'm a truck driver who gets drug tested randomly and I'd like to keep my high paying job.

Carfentanil can be 100-1000x stronger than fentanyl. I've treated thousands of patients who have overdosed from extremely small amounts. Some have died. Believe me when I tell you, that was not an opiate overdose. That was a panic attack. If it wasn't for the fact that he was a police officer, I might have suspected he staged the entire episode.

That poor officer. I'm so sorry that this happened to him. When we think of the dangers that officers come across, we rarely think of the affects of drugs they come in contact with, such as Fentanyl. When I had a spine/spinal cord injury 11 years ago, at one point docs put me on a Fentanyl patch. It was the most horrific med I've had. I was told to give it a couple weeks to see if the side effects would settle down. I couldn't do it. I stopped using them after about 5 days. Deputy Crane did an exceptional job. He was on the ball and was so calm and reassuring. As someone who has been in a trauma situation, that is exactly what the patient needs. I hope this young officer had a speedy and full recovery. This is a great example of why carrying N95 masks and wearing gloves are so important. Especially when coming in contact with suspected Fentanyl. It's scary crap. Heather🇨🇦
