Interesting to see that Mount Etna in Sicily is erupting at the moment and is spewing thousands of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere . The eruption is a natural phenomenon and cannot be controlled . Plus 10years ago this week, Scotland suffered for 2 weeks from sand being blown from over from the Sahara. I am an engineer and recently designed one of these systems for an existing building. Ridiculous pipe sizes and heat emitter sizes due to the lower temperatures. May work better in new builds with underfloor heating and low building heat losses. No use for old existing buildings. The cost of electricity is also way too high. The cost of the wind must have gone up in recent years?

Heat pumps cost more to run than a gas boiler. They are vastly more expensive. So during a housing and cost of living crisis, this government under direction from the greens, are implementing policies that will cut the amount of houses built and increase the price of the houses that are built. The people who will then be in these houses will be paying about a 3rd more to heat their houses

Sadly, both sides are useless. There are many solutions to the climate change challenge, including building zero carbon houses, heat pumps (yes! Despite the initial cost), district heating, geothermal heating for larger buildings and so on. Equally, there are ways of generating energy and money that can be encouraged. New builds should all have solar panels as a matter of course, it is criminal that this is not already the case. Innovative financing could ensure that the upfront cost of a home could be kept low for those who can’t afford more by financing those money and energy saving devices over many years or by external investors. All these things already exist and operate inn various places but without some encouragement from government (legal, not necessarily financial), they will not become the norm and we will continue to have stupid confrontations like this in parliament, while addressing neither climate change nor the housing shortage.
