A little ambient piece with the Pico case and just three modules - Morphagene, Arbhar and FX Aid (for reverb). No other FX used, except those baked into the samples.
Recorded direct to DAW.

I always come back to this video when I'm in the mood for some granular ambient vibes. It's a shame there aren't more Morphagene videos that actually use it to make ambient music. I often see a lot of tutorials, but a lot of the time they're using transients or short plucks to demonstrate how it works rather than using samples to create big sweeping pads and drones, which is what I think it really excels at. Thank you for being awesome! :)

Even though it is only 10.43 mins long, I'd play it for few hours and I would notice the loop, simply because our senses perceive and emphasize or down pairing certain sounds morphically and ever-evolving and different each time listen to it. In other words, we "hear" different harmonies and sense resonances never in the same way as time pass. This is a gift from the musician's ability in playing with time and perfection.

Well if you use 2 samplers, you get a lot of sounds, depending on your samples. I think mainly the source samples are well chosen/created and matched here, and they fit well onto the possibilities of these modules. (and who knows how much gear and experimentation went into creating the samples?) I have the privilege to own both of these modules, and I can assure you, they won't easily sounds like this together.
@bobschrei2029
@bobschrei2029 2 жыл бұрын
@@dirtreverse I also have multiple granular sources and I agree . Nothing I have done sounds like this! For me it demonstrate clearly that it is no the gear you have but the musicianship you bring to your instruments. Instruments don’t play themselves, even with so called generative music. You still set the parameters up beforehand.

this is really inspiring to hear. i recently bought a small intellijel palette case and 4 modules to start with the intent on making ambient and generative music. i still thought id need at least a larger 8u case to get even close to what you normally do... apparently that isnt true at all. this is really beautiful!
@stateazure
@stateazure 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Some of my favourite tracks have been done in smaller cases, either with the Pico or my Intellijel 84hp. They tend to be rather heavily sample based though, which makes things easier. For generative you obviously need more supporting modules though, which I don't really have.

@stateazure
@stateazure 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I don't remember exactly how I created the samples, just that I usually make them in the DAW with various synths, just from improvising then I send the finishes samples to these modules for manipulating.

This is exactly what I call ambient music and it's really rare to hear some with that level of quality ! Really beautiful ! This is exactly the kind of music that makes me want to go modular ! I have a question though and sorry if I sound naïve, but how is the module's audio input organized? Do you trigger samples from a controller or is it a track you've already made but transforme live through the modules? How many % are input samples and how many % are modules tweaking? I wish I could see what is going on beside the modules.
@stateazure
@stateazure 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. The samples are constantly playing, but I'm tweaking various parameters and moving through the waveform in a non-linear way, improvising. Both modules operate quite differently to how/what they're playing back. Without CV modulation or manual adjustments, just playing back normally it would still sound pretty decent, but you'd soon hear repeating and more static sound.
