Good Day MattPiekarsky : This info was available to the common public as far back as 1973 or 1974 through regular north American television , I remember the programs about this subject . The planned method to which would collect the vessel was indeed quite simple . The multimillionaire "Howard Hughes" agreed to having his name used and having a cover up created to make it look like that ship that he owned was built for mining the sea floor . Yes this vessel "Could Possible Be Used" for sea mining in the future . But the initial purpose was to try to recover a sub . The centre area (amidship) of this vessel was called the "MOON POOL" . I don't know how successful the recovery operation was . I liked your comments ! Good luck in the future !

You are indeed correct. But that Soviet submarine was hunted, targeted and sank by USN ships because it had sank an American submarine (don't remember the name but it was a very fast and maneuverable submarine as I was told). The Soviet submarine was torpedoing the US submarine, the US captain did all he had in his power to save the crew but the russians didn't stop, they sank the american sub. Then a submarine hunt ensued, essentially, the americans wanted the skin of that russian sub. The USN finally found it and torpedoed it to hell using warships, the russian sub sank 4 km deep into the ocean, it stood no chance against the USN, the USA later started a mission to retrieve the russian sub and get their nuclear codes. The USN managed to take the russian sub, they cut it into 3 pieces with the dead russian marines drooling out from inside the sub, and transported it back to the US where they deciphered the USSR's nuclear codes which were later presented to the Soviets. The Soviets had no meaningful way of getting the submarine back from 4 km deep in the ocean, knowing that, they didn't go after it. But the Americans who had themselves sank the submarine had the means and designed a mission to get to it. How do I know it? My father served in the USSR Airforce and had close ties with top generals. At that time, after the operation to get the Soviet submarine had gotten to the high-ups in the USSR, there were talks to artificially increase conflict with the Americans. There is so much that was happening in the background in that time, that sometimes you might think that some movie plots might even be real.

This was fairly interesting to me for the following reasons: I joined the US Navy in 1978. In '79 I was assigned to a Knox-class Frigate, the USS Fanning, and reported aboard as she was undergoing overhaul in the (then) Triple-A shipyard in San Francisco's Hunters Point district. That particular shipyard had quite the history, having been very active during the Second World War, but it was abandoned by the US Navy and turned over to the office of shipbuilding and repair of San Francisco in 1974. So one evening in early '79, I went below to hit the rack. The berthing space next to us at the same pier was empty, and had been since I'd reported onboard a few weeks earlier. The next morning I got up and went out on deck before 0700 muster, only to be greeted by a huge wall of steel right next to us. A large ship had come in during the night and had tied-up opposite the Fanning, about a hundred feet away. It was the Glomar Explorer. I remember asking at the time, "What ship is that," and the answer was that it was a "research and mining vessel." This many years later, I know what its real purpose was (I knew before your video, but still enjoyed how you laid it out) and I know now that Hersh of the New York Times outed in a handful of years earlier. My theory is that our captain and his senior staff may have known its true nature when they were likely informed by the Navy that "The Glomar Explorer will be berthing next to you," but they were probably told not to let us lower-ranking sailors in on it, despite the New York Times revelation. As I remember, it was there for about 3-days taking on supplies, then it left. Final note: I laughed when you showed a computer graphic of it and overlaid a disclaimer "not an accurate visual depiction," or something like that. You were right, LOL. Your graphic didn't quite nail it, but it was close 😁

We have no way of detecting subs under water from any reasonable distance, unless they want to be located. If you don't believe me, look into oceangate or the pretty recent incident where a uk and french nuclear sub just collided cuz they didn't see each other.

0:19 It would not have vanished "from radar". If it was even being monitored, it would have vanished from the view of (likely passive) sonar buoys and maybe anti-submarine air patrols.

Some of you probably know this already but Project Azorian actually inspired a map in Black Ops Cold War, albeit with the recovering ship being Russian. It's called Armada and imo it's one of the game's better medium-large maps
