I think there's something beautiful in how humble Thor is to the regular Joe right before he demonstrates his superiority to Tony. He doesn't condescend, or defend himself or in any way demean the man. He takes everything he says seriously, and you can see the empathy in his eyes for the pain of the man's existence. Sure, I loved watching Thor beat the tar out of Iron Man as much as the next guy, but I'm glad you included the proceeding scene, because it gives it so much more weight. Thor doesn't respect Iron Man despite his incredible power... for a mortal at least, because of his delusions of godhead and superiority and godhood, but he respects an ordinary man because DESPITE his complete lack of power and knowledge of that fact, he will clearly even stand up to a God of Thunder to protect what's important to him. It shows that while Thor is a God and deserves to be called such, he never lost sight of the plight of mortality, or respect for those who struggle to fight it well.

Cloning Thor was probably the biggest mistake done by Tony and Reed or anyway top 3 mistakes. Not only for their God complex of inferiority they cloned Thor just to see if it would work, they created an abomination that killed fellow heroes and couldn't be controlled. Iron Man is the typical example of rich people who in real life try to get condoned for the wrong shit they do by making amends with charity and such. This reality check from Thor was long overdue. Not the biggest mistake but close. Biggest was shooting Hulk into space and instead of going to peaceful world, wound up in gladiator world where he was able to lead a rebellion and raise an army. One that would go on a quest for vengeance after the ship they designed went nuclear from sabotage killing Hulk's pregnant wife and the families of those warriors. Even more frightening was the persona of the Hulk they would face, not some dumb brute or wishy washy nerdy professor but the utterly ruthless, remorseless Conqueror Hulk.

I remember this Thor fondly it was a peak of respect for the character. He wasnt sitting in Beta Ray Bills shadow as a worse version of Thor than Bill. They seemed equals as Odin intended. And ten minutes later he was back to getting his ass kicked by everyone. Thor has had a lengthy run of good days since Ragnarok before Civil War. Thor in the early 2000s had a few years of just fantastic stories and strong portrayals. Ah the good old days.

I have a theory on this “version” of Thor. In the “DISASSEMBLE” story line for Thor; He reset the Ragnarok cycle that was put in place by “those that live in shadow” or the “gods” of the gods. Since each cycle made the Asgardians and the Aesar weaker with each revolution the Thor we grew up with was the weakest of Thors. Now since the cycle has been removed everyone in the Asgardian mythos returned to their original power scale. Which would dwarf any previous iterations of any of those characters. So THIS Thor is not only more powerful but also has the OdinForce on top of his world busting power. Is to equate him to any of the higher end celestial power houses. In truth Thor showed an enormous amount of restraint.

Tony Stark is portrayed quite differently in the movies by RDJ than he was in the comics. Many don't realize that. Now they've changed him a bit, but he was very arrogant, a complete a-hole and almost bordering on villainous sometimes. He'd always showcase his "power" by using the ones who were truly powerful, Sentry, Thor, Hulk, etc. Remember when he ordered Sentry to just rip off Doctor Doom's mask? And Sentry just went through the shields of Dr. Doom and man-handled him? Tony then asked Doom "Do you acknowledge my authority now?". No, he acknowledged Sentry's authority, you egomaniac! Not many can break through Doom's shields BTW. That's why Iron Man was never the face of Marvel. Hulk, Spider-Man, Thor were, until RDJ showed up. This little segment proves that Stark will never understand true power and yet he has always toyed with it, without having it. Same goes for Fury and the whole SHIELD too. BTW, doesn't Siege happen after this? Or does it happen before?
