This is probably one of the albums closest to my heart. I was 15 when it came out and at the point I hadn't heard anything like it and it was the first album that I really got into front to back. I probably listened to at least on song off of it everyday for a year and a half. I think this album is what got into more alternative music in general as I got into St Vincent (who you would love) and Radiohead a year later. I don't listen to it as much as I used to as my tastes have just expanded a lot since then but I have a lot of beautiful memories attached it and I think it's a really well constructed album. Also your hair and makeup is amazing in this vid💜

I love fantasy, and the poetic lyrics/bombastic feel can really inspire me to create. The metaphors allow me to apply these songs to any point in my life. Also I'm very quiet in person, but when I listen to Florence it's like the chaos and vocals give voice to my internal world, where I'm not always able to express myself, Florence is a powerful vehicle for expressing my emotions. My life has been very chaotic, and it was comforting to live that along side these tracks/see it reflected The MV for this album is also awesome, and helps make the mundane seem like a fantastical journey

This album is great at capturing the feeling of like an inner turmoil and like you're being torn appart and feel overwhelmed. It also always makes me feel euphoric and want to scream and dance and makes me forget everything. Especially third eye, that song always makes me cry, it makes you feel like you are not alone and takes the weight of the world off your shoulders and releases you from pain.

I was a bit sad you didn't like Queen of Peace but then you had exactly the same reaction and thoughts as me on Delilah so i forgive u lmao Answering your question: Samson is a guy whose strength comes from his hair and Delilah goes and cuts his hair making him lose his power. You can see in the videoclip of this song Florence trapped in the purgatory so she cuts her boyfriend's hair and free herself from him, learning to dance (be free) like Delilah taught her. Loved your reaction and can't wait for High as Hope and maybe even The Odyssey! 💕💕

I get what you mean by saying the chaos in the songs sounds a bit compressed, I sometimes think that too. But I think it also has to do with how you feel before listening to it, because I found out there are moments when I play songs like Ship to wreck and just want to throw myself around the room and completely let go. Songs like that really grew on me and I really love them now, especially the epic sound of Queen of peace. Maybe you just need more time with them, but even if you still don't like them that's fine. If you like the "calm" songs more, I think you will love "High as hope", it's my favorite FATM album! Edit: Can't believe I forgot to mention, Mother is such an amazing and underrated song! I'm really glad you enjoyed it so much!

Ooh your thoughts on Queen of Peace are so interesting, Fern! The way you experienced it was so different from my experience but when you describe it I think I can kind of hear where you're picking it all up. For me I hear the layers very similarly to how you did in HBHBHB--they're there and sometimes some are more prominent but it's all flowing in crests and waves that follow along that continuous drum line for me that holds it together so it doesn't feel chaotic so much as powerful--like swimming for so long you suddenly realize you're running out of breath and struggle to reach surface then the crescendo happens as you finally break through the water and can breathe air again, until you fall back into the lure of swimming and then the cycle continues. That's what the song's pacing feels like for me, if that makes absolutely any sense? :D Love hearing your thoughts on this album though and how you always are kind and fair when you share how you interact with music!

I think I get what you said about the compressed production but for me personally I like it that way, it sounds like vintage soft rock. It almost like Lou Reed with modern flavor. I think the appeal of this album would be more appreciated if you watch the short films and MVs. Florence did a series of short films for this album and from there each song will make sense. I admit if you listen to the songs, they might sound disjointed but the movie and MVs lend a lot to the story. My most favorite tracks in this album are Delilah and St. Jude. (St. Jude’s MV is also a masterpiece. I still have goosebumps watching and listening to this song.) For me, my all-time fave is Ceremonials. It is the most sonically coherent of all her albums. I still remember how it made me feel the first time I listened to the whole album. Plus it helped me through some of the most difficult times of my life.

For sure Florence has very strong, great and characteristic voice. Maybe I did not listened to her all songs but like some/many of Florence song very much. But strong voice + loud instruments means sometimes a little too much especialy on the end of songs. Anyway I like this artist. Ps. Funny thing/story is that I listened especialy intensively to her, to Rammstein and The Hu just before I discovered Aurora. As far I remember it was on some reaction channel where I checking for these artists and then I discovered Aurora by a chance. Nothing important in this story, but as Aurora become my favourite artist it connect to these great artists too (in my particular case).

this album is based at the emotions of someone after a tough break up, the existencial void, anger, fury, depression, loneliness, hope, resistance. So it travels around various rythms to express this, when you say "very agressive" it's because it is to be agressive, she's angry, she's ready to fight god
