In 1962, crime in Rome was remarkably under control thanks to the valiant efforts of the local police. To reward the success of the force, the president of the Italian Republic himself asked Enzo Ferrari to assign two very special Ferraris to police duty. One of the Ferraris is almost immediately destroyed. One survives to this day. This is the tale of the survivor.

I can believe no one knows about this! There is a movie called Poliziotto Sprint (Policeman Sprint aka Highway Racer aka Convoy Busters(?) 1977) about this very event, the DS vs the 250 GTE. It seems to be hard to find this movie in the US so I know little about it, but the movie is about this legendary historical event. The whole point of this car is that is trashed. It has patina. It has history. It has some incredible stories attached to it (have you seen and listened to the video at all). This car is unique. Why would you want to destroy all that for a replica of an SWB, which will have no story. Moreover it will be worth a damn lot less!

I always like the look of the wheel tire combos like these, with a slight bubble/bulge on the sidewall. Looked up specs and found 185/80/15. Is that correct? The sidewalls don't look nearly that tall to me but perhaps the sidewalls merely look shorter to me due to the narrow contact patch?

I watched a 1970's Utalian 'Inseguimento' TV program on KZbin yesterday which featured a black Ferrari 250 GTE chasing a Citroen DS through the streets of Rome! Not only did they drive down some steps but they also flew through the air for several hundred feet side by side! The Ferrari ;landed on its wheels but the Citroen nose-dived and crashed heavily.
