This is brilliant, so informative and now we know why our CEOs diff is cloncky on his 308. Sounds like he needs the clutch plates replacing in the diff. Thank you so much. Ps, any idea of cost for you to sort this for him? All the best

I'm a little surprised at your explanation of how this diff unit functions, those clutch plates should not be floating as you describe. If you use new steel and clutch plates you should end up with an setup that compresses the slip assembly to a point that it takes 50 to 60 FP of torque for one axle to break away, if its too loose you need to add shim to reach that point...
