Final Episode 8 of my Ferrari 348 Project
The 348 project is now finished and sold to a new owner in order to create garage space for a MEGA new Ferrari build in the pipeline (watch this space !!)
I thought it would be nice to share my knowledge and experience having owned 2 x Ferrari 348s over the last 20 years whilst maintaining, fixing and serving them myself. I've put a buyers guide together to help future owners when purchasing a 348.
Enjoy
Scott

I had a 92 TB for 16 years. Although mine shifted fine into 2nd, even cold, I started to avoid it altogether as it seemed easier and quicker to just go straight to 3rd.

Be aware with a 348 TS/GTS: If you're over 6 feet tall, you're not going to be comfortable trying to drive the car with the factory roof panel behind the seats, because the roof panel stops the seat going all the way back! - You wont have the leg room you really need. The best solution is to find a folding soft top roof panel that you can put on the parcel shelf, allowing the seat to go fully back still (They are hen's teeth rare though and expensive! ) There are two versions of the soft top roof panel that exist for the 348: 1) An official Ferrari version that doesn't have front clamps, and is speed restricted (the speed limit is @ 100mph though) 2) A Ferrari North America version that has front clamps, exactly like the factory hard top ,and is not speed restricted. If you do a search for : "Ferrari 348 folding roof panel" you will find plenty of information about these panels

I put a scratch in my friends 348 roof panel running the seat back. If I owned one I probably wouldn't drive around with the panel behind the seat because I would want the seat further back.

Well done. I have been considering my first Ferrari purchase for some time. 348 was not being considered until now. A 360 would be my first choice. Any recommendations between a 348, 355, or 360? Thanks for sharing.

I own a 348ts, it's been great so far (4 1/2 years). Maintenance costs are high, of course, but it is a Ferrari, so you'd have to expect that... And no working on it yourself if you're looking to sell it at the right price. Best thing to do if you buy and if it hasn't been done yet, get a set of proper tyres. The car is obviously not very fast by nowadays' standards, but it feels a lot faster than modern stuff, thanks to the old school feel and general scariness of it all. I'd say a TS is the best choice, since the Spiders are basically torsion bars that are way more expensive than the rest of the 348's, and TB's can't have the roof taken off. Pros : Extremely cool looks and sleek interior With a stainless exhaust, the sound is out of this world (not on this video) Steering (no assistance) is extremely direct General old school feel - proper sensations Gas mileage Weirdly confortable Famous shifter grid Mechanical reliability Brakes - as long as you don't reach ABS limit, they're pretty solid ! Boot is actually vast, and you have a big shelf behind the seats Cons : Expensive to maintain Risky at all times (if anything breaks, it costs a fortune to repair) Cable driven gear selector (not the best) Driving skills required Steering (no assistance) very heavy when stationary You will get spat on by jealous pedestrians (depending on where you live) You will get arrested every once in a while Electrical gremlins are constant (Ventilation, door wiring harness, healights...) Brakes - ABS cuts in sometimes, so be careful on damp tarmac, the car WILL NOT STOP. I've also tried F355's and 360's. Great cars, of course, but it all depends on how much you're willing to spend. 348's and F355's, you'll have to get the motor out for timing belts, but a clutch replacement is as easy as pie. For the 360, the belts can be replaced from the firewall trapdoor, but a clutch replacement is a lot more costly. And by all means, avoid F1 transmissions. Everything in the F355 will be similar to the 348 in terms of storage space, because it is practically the same car. I could go on, but this is KZbin... Hope you learned a little...

Can you make or have you made a Mondial buyers guide?
@Ratarossa

Unfortunately I no longer own my Mondial 3.2 so can't film one unless someone lets me borrow theirs LOL. I can however tell you everything about them having owned and restored a non runner a few years back, have you watched the videos on that build ?
@morganzimmerman6800

Ratarossa yes. I watched a couple of them. Will definitely check more of them out. Are there any advantages to owning a t over the 3.2 or the mondial 8?
@Ratarossa

@@morganzimmerman6800 Normally I would advise to buy the newest version possible, but in the case of the mondial the 3.2 in my personal opinion is better, its more mechanical and less computer emus that can go wrong. the 3.2 engine is really strong and the styling is just a little bit better than the 8 and early cars.
