If you want to avoid the engine out for MOST things, get a 360. If you want to avoid it altogether, get a 430. I went with the 430 not just because it was the Ferrari V8 that came out when I got my license so it was a “poster car” for me, but also because you can pretty easily work on it yourself… which saves you a metric fuckton of money. You can also do a manual swap yourself for $10k if you want a gated manual without paying the premium for the stock ones. But a lot of the feeling of the 355 is still present in the 430… the interior is “far away” and spacious, it all feels light and delicate, it “dances” on the road… If you don’t mind the engine out maintenance, go for the 355. If you want things slightly more modern and reliable, 360. And even more so? 430.

I absolutely agree with you regarding the 430. I have one. An 07 F1 Spider. Modern enough, but still organic. I didn’t want a 458 because it is overly computerized, almost feeling like an arcade game, and the 355, although stunning, is a maintenance nightmare. Also, the interior is lacking, comparatively speaking. The 430 , for me, really hits the sweet spot. Two issues to contend with; 1) I live on Vancouver Island, and there are no certified Ferrari technicians. 2) my 430 is dark grey in colour, so not too flashy, however, some people look at me in a negative light. Conversely, I also have a Porsche 993, and virtually every time I drive it, people have their cameras out, and give me the thumbs up. 19:52

@@canto_v12 No hotter than a regular car given the laws of thermodynamics and ICE. However, unlike a regular car that has vast amounts of other components shoved in an engine bay to absorb heat, the F355 is pretty much just open space so that heat, rather than being absorbed into the surrounding chassis/body and components is radiated away. I would be willing to bet an F355 cools down much faster than a car where all the components are heat absorbing.

I feel like I’m in person experiencing the car with them the way they edit all of the shots in, from the back so we can hear the exhaust, the climbing rpms on the gauge, Thomas pushing the clutch in and grabbing another gear, it’s all extremely well shot and made. I never fully realized it until this video since I’ve been watching a lot of extra throttle house non sports car reviews from them recently, but this video is extremely well made. Thomas and James’ reactions to the car and driving experience really put it all over the top and you can tell when they are genuinely enjoying a really special car. Funny how impactful that was, now you have a cybertruck stomping on today's sports cars in drag races. The bottom line - nobody wants to be driving a Syclone vs a 348. The 348 is far better experience. Just about everything pre-2020 is going to seem slow. So now if you look at a more modern "classic" it's about having a manual transmission, something that sounds good, feels quick-ish but not criminally fast - in my opinion the 348's, 355's, and 360's are the best options for that.

Great restomod option! The only real cons are the additional cost of the engine out maintenance and the need for a roll cage, bucket seats, safety harness and fire extinguisher to make it safer.

A curiosity, the 355 Europeans made in the first year, have more hp and less weight! They are much faster than the following ones! Love the 355

I dont know but could it be going from OBD1 to OBD2?
@benzina59177 ай бұрын
The difference is in the 1995 (first year) cars and all the others. You can tell because they have 2 MAF sensors. Those are indeed OBD1 cars and are considered the best and fastest versions. It is not so much a European and Rest of World (ROW) thing.
@pete20727 ай бұрын
The '95 US cars have the motronic 2.7 as well, with 2 mafs and the extra power. The only difference row cars had was slightly lighter bumpers and doors, and no airbags, maybe 100lbs lighter total, if that. Not a big difference. They all went to motronic 5.2 (single maf, obd2) and airbags in '96.

I really don't know how all the manufacturers are completely missing the point that their older cars designed for drivers are skyrocketing in value. Car people want a car to drive, they aren't interested in automatic transmissions or television screens.

They do understand, thats why companies like porsche and aston release bare bones manual cars and charge extra
@A.J.16567 ай бұрын
@@zXPeterz14 Most manufacturers don't even offer them. The remaining manual Porsches are less than the PDK versions of the same car.

That intro. Just as I was gonna cringe, in comes the whole point behind the plot. You boys killed me with that joke 🤣☠️ The car, though...There are a million reasons I can name to explain why this was THE Ferrari of the 90's, and why it still slaps to this day. But a million is too many. The F355 shall speak for itself. 💯

Yes, the 355 is a classic Ferrari. It's a total shame the upkeep is so crippling. They were coming down nicely in price due to the nightmare maintenance cost.. but of course now that everyone is searching for manual vehicles, this has shot back up in price. There are a number of things I would change to make it look a little more appealing but again, that's personal taste. I still think the bargain to get would be the F430 in manual. Hopefully the world keeps ignoring this model so prices start to drop to more reasonable levels.. 🙂
@franciscodanconia43247 ай бұрын
And the 430 isn’t a nightmare to maintain.
@jdsk89147 ай бұрын
Yep F430 also doesn't need engine out service 👍
@eugenux7 ай бұрын
unfortunately, I don't think any manual sports car from a legacy brand will ever go down in price; in an automatic EV future, these cars will go only up.
@neoanderson77 ай бұрын
@@franciscodanconia4324 well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It’s a tiny bit friendlier to service. Still difficult. 😉
@neoanderson77 ай бұрын
@@jdsk8914 true, but it’s still a little tricky to service. Provided you’re doing the service yourself and not paying for someone to do it.

Probably going to step out in an unpopular limb, but I've always liked the 360.

The 360 is awesome. Much better car than the 355 but most people feel the 355 is prettier
@pkt12137 ай бұрын
@facetiousmonkey5322 maybe just because the 360 dropped when I was getting my license or something, but I like the 360's looks as well.

I always thought the 360 looked kinda beady eyed since they went away from pop ups. The pop ups on 355 were smoother imo

Hi Throttle House Team,🤗 I just wanted to say a big thank you for all the amazing content you’ve been delivering to us non-stop! It’s been incredible, and we’ve been glued to our seats with premium entertainment. I got a car here in Winnipeg, MB, that I believe would make a great review video. If you could find the time to squeeze it in in your busy schedule, I’d love to see it! It's the Jaguar XJ portfolio 2012 model with a 5.0-liter V8 in Azurite Blue. I just love the amazing videos you've been putting out here. They're so entertaining, informative, and most of all, lots of fun to watch!❣

Asides from the engine-out service that you should do every 3-5 years, depending on how many miles you drive it, repairs can be a pain. The problem is that when parts need to be replaced, good luck finding them. You'll have to buy used ones and hope that they're not also defective. If you're willing to put all that aside, this is one of the most glorious classic Ferraris to drive, especially with a gated shifter and a Capristo exhaust with high-flow cats. The looks, the sound, the shifting, even the leather all make you feel like you're in something really special. Thanks for the great review!
