Good insights there, and I agree, its a car created to fit markets, specifically certain taxation legislation, rather than it is creating a car for a specific customer. I think the V12 is still the one to go for, 4 wheel drive is more useful in the UK than people often think, for 8 months of the year the roads are greasy, wet or icy, and any of these high performance cars are transformed with 4 wheel drive, you can use much more of a 911 4S performance every day in the UK than you can an otherwise identical 2S. For most of us, the confidence boost of the extra traction is much more valuable than minor weight savings from the 2wd.

I know that it is not a car for the tuning market - but imagine how much more can be done tuning wise with those turbos. A simple chip tune maybe enough to beef power to the V12. Exhausts can also be tuned for sound, like Shmees GT8, get some soul back then lol.

Yeah I think you hit the nail on the head there. With the torque and the affordability relative to the V12 it's a really attractive package and it's safe to say that most GTC4 owners won't be driving the wheels off it on the track. But when you think of Ferrari owners like yourself I doubt any of them drove the V12 version and went 'I wish it had a V8 turbo'. It may be slightly more dynamic but mostly this is just smart market positioning.

I can see where your coming from can't beat the raw experience and excitement of normally aspirated V12 or any other aspirated engine for that matter but the way emissions are going even in the Uk give it a few years and we'll have to go down the the road of strapping turbos on all engines. Personally it wouldn't bother me as turbos have came on a long way it can only get better. Love the Ferrari GTC4 T. Never been a big Ferrari fan but this ticks the boxes.👍👌

Why would anyone buy this!? 99% of the people who can afford it and are willing to buy it can also afford the v12 4wheel drive version. These are cars for wealthy people, no one drops every dime they have into them. Everyone will just think "oh you couldnt afford the v12 huh?" Thats sometning no Ferrari owners wants to hear! I dont get it, the price difference is not that big, who wants a lesser version?

In certain markets the taxes are so high and the perception of the people around you could well mean you want a V8 instead of V12. It all has to do with cultural perceptions, the types of environmental tax in certain countries and the perception local people have. In the end, this is a car focused on market demand and what certain parts of the world want you to be seen in.

He explained it in the video.. In some countries you pay an enormous amount of tax on cars, the import tax alone can be 100% of the price of the car and then you also have additional taxes based on engine size, emissions etcetc. A BMW M3 costs several hundred thousand dollars in some parts of Asia for example. A Ferrari 488 costs more than 3x as much in Singapore ($750k+) as it does in the US/Europe. There's a big difference on cars with engines bigger than 4L as well, so a GTC4 T with a 3.9L V8 will cost much, much less than the 6L V12 version.

Yeah I know all about the taxes. Im from Norway. The v12 is 350.000£ here (4,5 million kroners) but still, Ferrari owners most wants the best and most expensive. Ferraris are status and show off cars and as I said I just cant see many buyers choosing the lesser version. I get the emission thing that they "have to" make it. I dont see it becoming a success other than in china maybe. Just my humble opinion.

A big part of the Ferrari experience, to me anyway, is the high-revving, screaming, N/A engine note. Nobody does a sound as good as a Ferrari in that guise. Just compare a 458 to a 488 in that department to see what I'm talking about. When you take that theatre away, when you take away the visceral part (in the case of the GTC4) what you're left with is a rather odd-looking, fast car and not much else. V12 all day for me.

It's a good question, Mr JWW. Sure, if you're just comparing across a single Ferrari model (as in this upload) it would make for quite a good pub chat. But that would mean ignoring Ferrari's legacy of decades of screaming NA V12's and V8's across many models. Plus, this current crop of NA large capacity engines is likely to be one of the last, those that have the choice owe it to themselves to buy and experience them because the choice won't be around forever. :)

Well, if you want low end torque and to also save +50K they have the same nice 4-seater Ferrari with a V8 turbo. If not, no problem, they can also offer the V12 AWD version. Porsche has gone all turbo with the 911 Carrera and 718 lines, and the 911 Turbo was always, well, turbo.

Your metaphor at the end was a perfect example of where I feel like Ferrari is taking their cars: fast but quiet without the soul of Ferraris in the past. Turbos are killing Ferrari's cars. Its a shame that Ferrari has to put a turbo just to satisfy the 'environmentalists', and a V8 in a car that really shouldn't have one in the first place. Screw the environmentalists!
