It was very brave as it was during the depression. Leslie also wrote it and quite a few recorded it , it appears no versions were released in the US were the depression was much worse.

@@OldiesAl i'm nearly 72 and my old dad, used to sing this to me. I thought I must have dreamed it. Not heard it since I was little. Strange song, to sing to a toddler though!

Apparently my grandma had a cover of this on the Eclipse label and she played it for my mum she disliked it then and at 83 still does 😂
