If you anodize the entire scale bronze (the lower voltage color) first, then attach your stencil and just spray some primer on the scale, some of the bronze anodization will be covered. Next, you can anodize it using the higher voltage, which will change all the areas that weren't covered with primer to the blue-ish color you want. You won't have to bead blast anything.
@mitchelltj17 ай бұрын
This seems easier for a home DIY. Would you then remove the primer to reveal the bronze?

I recently discovered Ferrum Forge on Massdrop thanks to the French youtube chain "fandecouteaux"with the GENT model, and frankly you are now part of my favorite brands of knives. Continue like that, you bring a lot to the world of cutlery.

Hi, I have 2 questions 1. i reckon it's possible to use laser etching for the "pattern making" instead of sand-blasting it? I want to make some kind of logo on it 2. so the first/base colour needs to be darker than the second colour? Cheers

I’m sure you found out by now but you can search it up in your preferred search engine. Type in “titanium anodizing chart” and you’ll find it.

Just wondering what type of media your using in the blasting booth?
@PaulK390S90V6 жыл бұрын
Cool! I just started anodizing and now I know how to get designs and twotone designs. Instead of bead blasting I think I can just use my dremel with my scotch type wheel and with the stencil on do the same thing....I don't see why it won't work. And then do you just clean it well with Windex and rinse before putting it in the anodizing bath for your second lower voltage color? Because obviously if you etch it again it will all come off
@678rwhp5 жыл бұрын
You can use whatever method you want. Just have to get all the way through the previously anodized finish.

Very cool! I have a Grey version of the Crux and played with coloring the spacer and Pocket clip but how could I get back to the original grey? I etched using dilute hydroflouric acid and the raw titanium looks lighter.

To what extent can you polish her up after anodizing?
@devilchild10176 жыл бұрын
You need to do any polishing before anodizing. Anodizing should be one of the very last steps in your process. The color is caused by how light passes through the thin coating, and is quite easily removed with any abrasives.

Love the videos! I've been doing some home anodizing. I get good colors but on a few parts I've been getting a brown almost tan burn. I'm trying to find out why. I've got a 120v 1amp power supply, stainless steel bowl for my negative, titanium wire on my positive. I use about a tablespoon of tsp for my electrolyte solution with distilled water. Before I anodized I wash in multi etch solution......what. could be causing it?
@chriswilliamson96226 жыл бұрын
Is that the bronze that occurs around 15 volts? If it is, the surface finish and time in multi-etch. If you have a matte finish on the titanium, the bronze you get will look a little more brown, especially when compared with the same bronze on a polished surface finish. For low voltages (10-55ish), I don't use multi-etch. I find the bronzes and blues are a bit more muted and warmer without multi-etch.

Cool video. What is the blast booth? Is that paint going on at that stage? If so, is it not affected when you bronze the scale further?
@Scorpiomaj278896 жыл бұрын
It's similar to sand blasting, he's removing some some anodization based on the stencil pattern, then redipping at a lower voltage to fill it back in with a different color.

Hey man just wondering you use the multi-etch at room temp? And how long do you let it sit?
@FerrumForge5 жыл бұрын
I keep it at room temperature. I haven't found the difference between room temperature and heated Multi etch to be that significant. The soak time depends on a lot factors, like how old the multi etch is, the surface finish of the piece, and the overall finish effect I'm looking for.
@abyss54695 жыл бұрын

Very cool! I have a dumb question, sorry. I didn’t understand the step with the ?blaster? Thanks!
@chriswilliamson96226 жыл бұрын
ronfaircloth this step allows me to remove the original shiny ano in a specific pattern. This creates a visual pattern as well as a tactile pattern. You can see after I remove the tape and stencil that there is a matte texture where the stencil didn’t cover the titanium. Now there is a pattern that can be felt and re-anodized without interfering with the initial shiny ano.
@ronfaircloth6 жыл бұрын
Chris Willamson thanks! Is the blaster heat or just air pressure.
