This is a great old song. For many years I wondered what this ferry across the Mersey was, and then I found out that the Mersey river runs through Liverpool, and the ferry gets you from one side to the other. Using that ferry was a common thing for those who lived there such as Gerry and the Pacemakers and the Beatles.
