The Last 2 videos were Great!!!! Very informative for a novice like me. Looking forward to branch pruning and hopefully you will touch on root pruning for container gardening. On the branch pruning please touch on if you had 1 gallon trees like Seiryu, Orange Flame and other vigorous growers that really shot up tall but are very skinny. How do you prune that? Do you take off from the height? Thanks again. Love these videos

The NPK ratio (percentage of each in the bag) is irrelevant without specifying the AMOUNT of fertilizer put down. I wish this video had said "we typically put X pounds of nitrogen per foot of tree divided over Y monthly applications" or something like that. Take your 15-10-8 fertilizer... if I put a cup of that around the root ball or 5 pounds of it all around the dripline those are two very different fertilizations.
@MrMapleShow3 жыл бұрын
Lots of of variables from rate of release to how the fertilizer is activated. We recommend reading the recommend dosage on the bag your are using. This type of information is Very specific to the individual fertilizer

It’s always great to return to video episodes such as this. I’ve just gave all my Potted Acers a slow release granular feed, 12-7-19 NPK values, something which I didn’t do last year. It will be interesting to see the results. I used 30ml Tomorite liquid feed in a 9,5L watering can last year…….

New to your channel and think your info is excellent. I'm in central California and purchased a couple of maples last month and re-planted them to the ground within a few days. Since we have been in the low triple digits with our summer temperatures, I was thinking extra watering would be required. Unfortunately my trees are dying. I have probably over watered. Should I dig them out to dry the roots and replant and fertilize, or just fertilize? Also, should I clip the dead branches and leaves? Thank you

Thanks for watching. You don't have to have the exact mix of 15-10-8 but the most important number with JM's is the nitrogen. You don't want to go above 15.

Mr. Maple , what’s your thoughts on fish emulsion for Japanese Maples?
@MrMapleShow3 жыл бұрын
Fish emulsion used over and over causes large amounts of growth but often seems to stretch out the cambium making the trees unhealthy. This can cause them to struggle in droughts or not make it through the winter.

Would you ever recommend using a water-soluble 9-45-15 starter fertilizer on 1yr. old acer palmatum seedlings in deep 3 1/2" pots? Top growth is healthy from 12"-18", but the roots are slow to fill out the container. The medium is around 60% pine bark/hardwood bark and 40% peat/perlite mix. Too much peat? It's early May in Z6a.

Is it okay to only use some Cow Dung and special acidic type ground mixed together? And maybe some sand and Hydro granules at the bottom, I want to bonsai the tree and put moss on the soil (in the pot).😅😅

It’s inconsistent but is typically the best color when it leafs out slowly. It typically doesn’t revert but is more green when leaf’s out fast.
