This is David German's "Festive Trumpet Tune". It's not too difficult for any who are wondering. I am performing it on my Hauptwerk Virtual Pipe Organ using Inspired Acoustic's Palace of Arts Budapest (PAB) sample set. The original instrument is a 5 manual organ with 134 ranks.
This piece packs a punch on this organ, making generous use of the Tuba Mirabilis and Chamades.

Beautiful! I never get bored of hearing this magnificent piece! Just got it right on the piano myself. Pity that our church organist holds a grudge against me for some unknown reason and won't allow me to so much as look at the organ!

It was a reply to someone else's comment - hoping they'd make some posts on KZbin. KZbin's odd way of displaying comment threads that extend past one page make this very difficult to see.

Hi Rob, thanks again! I saw your rating and comment on my first one and was hoping you'd be so kind again :-) I was having some issues with getting the video right. This is my first HD video, and iMovie has some issues with exporting 720p videos. So I had to redo the upload. If you check back in a little bit, you should be able to see it in HD.

Thanks JW, the "smothered reeds" would be the swell 16', 8', and 4' reeds under expression, so your newly-coined term would actually be quite accurate!

A close friend of mine living in Denver was "bragging" about the realistic sound quality of his new Viscount, I convinced a him to listen to some of the Virtual Hauptwerk sample sets. He now has the Hauptwerk License so that he can expand his choice of organs and stops on his Viscount organ!!

@SimoFuma1989 I bought my copy from Calvary Church in Charlotte, NC years ago. They may still have it in their bookstore. David was the Minister of Music and Dan Miller was the organist at the time I purchased mine.

All 1 camera. I think the Metz has lots of character, and it's definitely one of my favorite sample sets, but there's just nothing like the over-the-top resources of this organ to render this piece!

Good showcase of the PAB sampleset. I've bought Hauptwerk and the pro version of the PAB sampleset years ago, only need a proper console. Currently discussing with the original PAB organ builders for a copy of the mobile console :D Going to cost an arm and a leg though, but it's such a beatiful instrument to own.

It isn't just the number of samples stored. In a pipe organ, pressure drops to pipes surrounding the ones in the division(s) being played result in momentary detuning and loss of volume, which varies with the music, temperature, speed at which the instrument is played, and many other factors. If the same record of samples were to be played in a loop when the key is pressed, you would quickly get listener fatigue. - Michael S, Ph.D., Consulting engineer, signal processing and comms systems

Okay, I found out the real story here. I asked Dan Miller about this, since he knows the piece and knows David German personally. My copy of the score is an old one that has a misprint, so you were playing it correctly. Sorry for the bother! I will have to relearn that measure with the accidentals that were "accidentally" missing!

Hi Rob, I always thought that this piece would be in D-major... did you transpose it? I'm lacking both the sheet music and an absolute hearing, so I can't name the "original" version.
@BoerbokMan

+WoodyofmC It's in f major and then transitions to f# major in the fanfare section
@WoodymC
@WoodymC 8 жыл бұрын
+Boerbok Man Yes, that's what I also observed in Rob's playing. So, according to your comment, I suppose that the other version I once heard in D-maj was the transposed one. Guess I should also try to play it in F/F#. ;-)
@BoerbokMan

Was it with a trumpet player? He may just have prefered D major... Who knows. The F# section is kinda tricky for me, but that's only because I'm a terrible organist! haha

@niceflyer80 I've heard about how Hauptwerk emulates what you describe. Little touches like that is what seperates a typical digital organ from one that sounds convincing.

When you switch from the 16-8-4 fanfare trumpets in F# back to the Great, there is no natural in the top note of the right hand, at least not in my score. So the top note of that passage should be: D# E# F# F# F# E# D# C#. I'm pretty sure you were playing an E natural, both on the way up and back down again.

I am loving your videos, they are fantastic, I always said I'd buy a Rodgers organ for my home but I think I'd rather have the Hauptwerk system instead. Funny you use Def tech speakers, just like Trinity church. I bought a pair of 7004 Super Towers a few years back, perfect for organ reproduction, I'm listening to this on them now!

Okay, now I'm pretty sure there's a misprint in one of our editions of this work. I played through that section before I went to work this morning, and it's not just the E# that's different -- you're also playing D natural and A natural in that measure. My score has no accidentals in that measure; does yours? I do have an early copy of this piece, copyright 1990. Perhaps yours is later and was corrected? If so, I apologize for thinking your rendition was at fault!

Excellent job overall, and very nice quality video! However, I hate to be picky, but you need an E sharp starting at 1:31. F# major is not my favorite key, by the way!
