So jealous of these festools tools ..☹☹, but great explanations of how they work, keep it going 😁😁😁

+Kevin Davies Thanks Kevin, yes they work really well, and the more you build out the system the more flexibility you have I use. I didn’t expect to like the CMS as much as I do, but boy is that a good piece of kit. It has already become one of the key tools in the workshop. It is a bit limited in terms of bit size with the OF1400, so still thinking of a workaround for raised panels. Cheers Andy

You might be right about that rubber packing piece, I left mine on thinking it might be there to stop any vibration. Had the CMS since March and still haven't used the router module lol. I use the TS55R module all the time though.

+Biggsy1970 Hi Biggsy, I think it is a packing piece. It all works perfectly without it but applies no pressure with it. How are you finding the TS55R module, I like the idea of that, I don’t need a table saw that often - but I certainly have instances when it would come in handy. Cheers Andy

@@TheWoodgrafter it's great I bought the Mafell saw so decided to get the CMS to put my festool saw into. Ive had an Elektra Beckum table saw for years but it's not so easy to take to jobs. The CMS can be carried in one hand and the TS55R insert etc is very accurate and easily powerful enough for cutting 18mm infills etc on kitchens

Biggsy1970 Sounds good, it’s on my list. Given I have the TS55 and the CMS then it will make a pretty low cost quality table saw and as you say portable. Thanks for commenting and watching. Cheers Andy

@@TheWoodgrafter how did you end up with the protractor fence did you buy it as an accessory ? I got mine with the ts55r CMS plate. So you will end up with 2 if you buy the saw module
@TheWoodgrafter6 жыл бұрын
+Biggsy1970 Yes I bought it an accessory and then realised you get it with the TS55R, so I will end up with two. As the old saying goes, a man can never have too many Festool protractor fence thingies. You live and learn...

Addendum: the OF1010 doesn’t have a ratchet action like the other big Festool routers. Also: I think the zero setting on the fence allows for the biggest bit size that will fit (which is 50 mm I think - there is a Klein rebate bit that size, advertised as being made for the CMS system) - you’d be able to do a rebate in passes, starting with a full depth and a small sliver, increasing that to the desired width. Otherwise: a very informative series. Wish that the black and green mothership had these... : )

+Bert Vanderveen Hi Bert, You are correct, the 1010 comes with the spindle lock rather than the ratchet. Although you can mount the 1010 in the CMS I find the 1400 has more power and versatility, so the ratchet doesn’t really matter. In terms of the bit size, the larger cutters such as horizontal panel raising bits don’t fit into the 1400. There is not enough clearance on the base - so this carries over as a limitation on the CMS. The opening in the CMS is wide enough to take the wider bit so will work with the larger router - but as you say in your previous post that isn’t comparable with the CMS in the US. One alternative is to make an MDF false top that allows the bit to effectively sit above the base of the router so negating the limitation. Another alternative is to use vertical bits, this will then work with the 1400 and the CMS with no modifications. This is in line with your comments on the Klein bit, and is the pref option. The challenge then becomes feather boards, I will be making a video on how to overcome that at some point. But a great conversation, thank you. Cheers Andy

@@TheWoodgrafter Hi Andy, thanks for taking the time to react! I am currently on a marathon watching all of your video's and really appreciate what you do and have done. I surely have learned things that I did not know yet (the Festool manuals being pretty useless, as you know). I own the CMS with the OF2200 module and also most of the Festool routers (except the 1400…). The OF2200 will handle anything you throw at it, bit-wise and I am very happy with it. Too bad the Yanks can’t enjoy…

Thank you, Yes the Festool manuals are hit and miss, but there are lots of great videos available. I like the Festool videos - they tend to be my go to source - but they don’t really help in real life applications. Thank you for watching, Kind Regards Andy

I have had my CMS for 3 years and did not know the rubber piece was there. I looked today and it is indeed there but slipped out of place and badly mangled. I looked at the exploded parts diagram in the owner's manual and the rubber piece is shown as item No. 18 Festool part 436021. This makes me wonder if the rubber piece has a purpose other than packing and shipping. Andy, your videos are excellent. They are far better than the videos and manuals produced by Festool. Greetings form Colorado, USA.

Hello Randall, Strange - I couldn't get the fence to clip into place with the rubber thing. Also the way it is fitted looks like an after thought - not Festool usual design quality. The fence works great without it, it may be one of those things we never understand. Talk soon Andy

I now think that I have been using the CMS all these years without realizing that the hold-down device has not been locking in place. I have now removed the rubber piece. Without your video, I would have never known. Thanks. Randall

+Randall Ritchey Hi Randall, did it make a differnace to the hold down ? Cheers Andy
@randallritchey65665 жыл бұрын
Andy, It doesn't seem to make a difference, I contacted Festool USA with the following question: "What is the purpose of the small rubber piece (Part 436021) on the hold down device on the CMS-OE? On my CMS the hold-down latch (Part 442777) will not snap into place with the rubber piece attached. When I remove the rubber piece, everything seems to work fine." I received the following answer: "Thank you for contacting Festool. The small rubber piece is there to eliminate any vibration that could be caused by the use of the system. The rubber piece will allow the clip to attach securely and might need a small push so that this type of connection is secure. You can remove this small rubber piece without any problems and should work fine. But through research we have determined that the small rubber piece benefits the entire routing experience." FYI, I have filed a small amount off the mating surface of the plastic hold-down clip so that the clip now snaps into place without the "small push" yet still contacts the rubber piece Do whatever works best for you. Best Regards, Randall

@@randallritchey6566 Hi Randall, Thank you for following that up - I never had a problem with vibration and find that it locks into place very securely without the rubber part. I found the "small push" was a large push that started to distort the arm - so better of without it. Yes, I did think about the filling solution as well, but decided against it. As you say, whatever works best for you - for me its the Incra Fence ;-) Cheers Andy

I find the cms router fence quite annoying really. No micro adjustment, so its fit, test trial, loosen fence, adjust, tighten down, test trial again, etc and the fence has very short adjustment lengths available. No way i can route middle of wide boards, just edges or close to an edge only. The clear pressure clamp guard swings around and simply doesnt stay in the position i twist lock it at. When changing the bits, the large spanner should be bent to help enable it to fit easier under large router bits. Currently the flat spanner is awkward to use and sometimes can be nicking large router bit edges. Next, the of1400 under it upside down gets clogged and dust seems to prevent the ratchet mechanism from working properly. I have removed the Festool guards and replaced them with i think better ones.

Biggest mistake they made was not making the router able to be permanently fixed, those clamp things are shite. I drilled and bolted my own but it should have been done. Probably had it 12 yrs now, I was they made a dedicated router table, I’d buy that. Mine is showing it’s age now
