I'm doing a cedar deck like this, and was wondering if it might be easier to use the Rotex with the 5 inch pad, since my boards are 5.5 inches wide. I'm concerned that if the boards are not perfectly flat to the adjacent ones, then the 6 inch pad would overlap and need to sand down the adjacent board to the same level, whereas the 5 inch pad could just concentrate on each board individually. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, that is a valid concern and a 5" Rotex with good grit will certainly remove some wood. I haven't run into too much hassle with that issue but if the boards are way unlevel then it could get aggravating to run the pad on an angle a lot.

If one can afford this sander what would you recommend for this prep sander or angle grinder wise

I prefer this sander over an angle grinder

when you paint a interior wall do you sand the walls before painting with the festool system

Just saw this question.. No I don't sand the walls with these sanders much. I do use a round sanding pad and an extension pole to do a light sand on drywall. Not the festool planex, just hand powered.

Hey there, I don't do new drywall often at all. I would always cover any finished floors and furnishings with floor paper and plastic when I make dust.
