Thank you so so much for the fantastic explanation. You described this so well and much better than our current doctor. Thank you again for preparing our expectations and helping to reduce crazy high stress and anxiety in our family ❤️

I looked this up because of my kids brother being born with this. His mother says that nobody has any idea why this happens. She smoked cigarettes, did drugs, drank, and only ate McDonald’s while pregnant. We were always given lengths of time that he would live. First it was that babies with this don’t live past 6 months, and then 1 year, and on, and on. Her Aunt has mostly cared for him most of his life. I believe she recognized that he was hospitalized within 2-3 days any time he was in his mothers care. He cried nonstop when he was with his mother. My heart broke for him when I seen how he was treated as a burden to her. I wish I had taken precautions to protect our children more.

Wow, my story is almost similar. I’m 31 & was born with gastroschisis, although never confirmed I’m sure my mother did drugs while pregnant with me. I was in the hospital for several months & my aunt raised me as well ❤

I was born with gastroschisis. Im about to turn 30. Apparently I spent 11 months of my first year of life in the hospital when i was born in '91. These days i have a gnarly scar across my lower abdomen which makes my whole body look like a smiley face lol. I'm fortunate enough i don't really gain weight regardless of what i eat, and i don't really lose weight either. The most I struggle with is iron deficiency and low hemoglobin levels. I've had to have a couple blood transfusions having blood levels so low that i shouldn't even be walking, yet I don't even notice and while getting the emergency call after bloodwork, i was riding bike and playing soccer.

Same. But I was in the hospital for a while, like 6 months or less I think, and I had one blood transfusion. My grandma exaggerated it a lot. But I hope u grow to love that you lived like me. I struggle with anemia too. I was born 99

I am also born with gastroschisis and I just turned 27 this January. I remember my mom informed me I was in Sick Kids hospital for my first 18 months. I was also back and fourth for 18 years. I have about 40 percent of my small intestine gone, 10 percent of my large and part of my bowel. I'm grateful everyday that I made it through. I'm happy both of you also survived as well. I have always wanted to write a book about my gastroschisis. The name I have is trusting what you have left of your gut, a gastroschisis survivor story.

Hi ☺️ I also have gastrochisis, I’m twelve and I can relate. I was often in and out the hospital as a child because of it.

Same. My twin sister was born healthy and I was the first twin in Canada to be born with it.

Have you ever had a baby grow into an adult and have complications due to the surgery? Maybe the way it was placed back in.

I was born in 1975 with this condition. I'm 49 now & from all the scar tissue that built up over the years, I have blockages. But I was ok til my mid 40's.

I had a child 1985 natural birth..born with gastrochesis..transfered to children hospital and died 36 hours later. Death was due to severe apnea of lungs. Was told not to have further children without genetic testing first and that the natural birth caused her to swallow fluid during birth..your thoughts? Never had any other children
