Fever team- So close tonight. Says a lot to play like you did against a veteran team. Your improvement is impressive, your potential is huge. Continue to work on *avoiding* *fouls.* Letting the other team go to the line are cheaply lost points. Coach Sides- I saw the team play to each of their strengths. Keep that up. Fagbenle: layups, defending, catching passes, running the court. Mitchell: bulldog offense, and quick down the court tonight. Caitlin: 3’s, quick layups, laser sharp passes. Loved seeing those no-hesitation run ups for the layups. Not letting the defense get in your head. We’re seeing you hitting your shots despite being hounded. Study how to defend without fouling. That goes for Boston too- You’ve got the stature to hold your ground, hold it without fouling. Fagbenle seems to keep her cool when defending under pressure. Fever Team: Stay calm when in high pressure crunch-time plays. You start to fumble the ball and make silly mistakes when the stakes are high: stay calm so your hands and feet act right. I like the Clark-Boston duo, and no doubt Boston is talented, but I wonder what would’ve happened if it were Fagbenle on that last layup. Great game.

These games against the liberty, sun, and aces comings up are going to help the fever against the 2nd tier teams down later in the season. @@johnt2170 Exactly. And this is the entire reason I have no faith in this coach. Because I don't get it either. Wheeler and Wallace are both inconsistent as all get out at best. That is at best. And there sits Berger. I do not pretend to understand. But, in the end, coach is failing terrible for whatever reason. She refuses to play Berger. A stable, good defending, accurate shooting, great ball handling baller. Wheeler shoots 38%. Berger 80%. Wheeler has 1 assist per game Berger 2 per game. Wheeler with 90 minutes played, Berger with 30. You tell me. Give Berger all that pt and her stats would climb even more like you ain't seen. Wallace is worse than that. Makes no sense. Players stepped up! Not as many missed layups and screens were better. Great team aspect of working together with much better hustle last night!! Players are learning their roles, and doing what they do best. Putting that all together, they will just keep growing and getting better. Excited to keep watching. 👊🏼💪🏼

Often it is not how you start out in the season but how you finish. The trajectory for the Fever will continue to rise! I loved the rotation of fresh players that made a huge difference in maintaining the speed on the court and made the game much closer. First time I saw that the bench has the depth and talent to run with the best of them! Though they did not win so proud of coach Sides for being willing to “reinvent the wheel” in player rotation and combination. Better things lie ahead and this coach and team will never give up. So excited to see the great improvement🏀🏀

What? 8 players played. you had 4 players not even getting on the floor. Your statement could not be more incorrect. This coach is not searching for chemistry. She is force feeding the same players regardless of how bad they are. Study the teams stat sheet. It might floor you. Berger shooting 80% for the season while Wallace less than 50% and Wheeler is at 38%. Can't get on the floor. Berger avg more points per game than Wallace and Wheeler. Can't get on the floor. Berger avg more assists per game. Can't get on the floor. And that is with Wheeler and Wallace both actually having a good game in game #4. A frikin' miracle in itself. Berger has played in 2. Hull in 2. Taylor in 0. This coach is most definitely NOT searching for any chemistry. She wouldn't know chemistry if it knocked her over.

Great improvement! Clark much more aggressive on D and getting around the defensive screens better and the team as a whole reading the screens better and picking up people off the screens. Clark seems to be getting used to the physicality also. Boston much more aggressive on the boards and more aggressive in the paint on D. More transition buckets this game it seemed. The whole teamed played really well. Coach Sides keep up the good work and don’t let people who are not in your shoes get you down. I see some W’s in the teams near future! Impressed with the improvement in such a short time.

The basketball universe seems to be all over the map with respect to Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. From my perspective, the team is trying to run before it learns how to walk. Here are the steps needed, beginning with the drafting of Clark. 1) Establish a realistic goal - Clark and Sides say the goal is to make the playoffs. Realistic? Yes, given 2 first picks and 2 second picks in the drafts are in the starting line-up. The coach needs to make sure everybody buys into the goal. Whatever it takes. 2) Establish a team identity. The identity should fit the personnel and provide a competitive advantage. There are a lot of possibilities. In no particular order: - Physical, blue collar - Upbeat, fan favorite, create excitement - Fast-breaking, high-pace - Pick -and-roll with kick-outs to open 3’s - Defensive stalworth - Focus on ball movement with even distribution Recommendation. The coach seems to be confusing the players on this issue. The team should be built around Caitlan handling the ball and getting it inside to Boston. The last play of the second Liberty game needs to be practiced until the cows come home. If Caitlan is double-teamed, she needs to find an open shooter. If she is not double-teamed, she needs to drive to the basket or shoot the 3. Likewise for Boston. If she attracts a double-team, she should pass to an open shooter (preferably outside of the 3). This approach needs to be practices 1000’s of times. (Think Stockton/Malone). The stuff about shooting long 2’s or a 0.5 second rule needs to find the circular basket. If a sustainable identity is not formed (even if they win a few games), Sides should be gone before the 10th game. 3) The X’s and O’s. While practicing the approach required by the new identity, the coach also needs to address the fundamentals: - Health/conditioning - Spacing on the floor - Cutting to the basket - Boxing out/rebounding - Defensive communications and helping out This guidance seems to be lacking. 4) Intensity/will to win Once the goal, identity and fundamentals are in place, the team leader can be responsible for instilling a competitive spirit and will to win into the fabric of the team. Before the basics are in place, ramping up the intensity will just lead to frustration. Will Sides see the light on these straightforward steps? Based on the decades-long losing cultures of some teams, I don’t think so. I’d give her to the 10th game for the team identity to be clear to all and for some of the X’s and O’s to be improved. Without that, she’s in the wrong spot given the circumstances.

Here is what I see is a problem up to this point. 1.When is the Fever going to get rid of Wheeler. 2. When is the coach going to instruct Boston to shoot from 10 feet out and not try to crash the boards, leave that up to Smith and Fagbangle. 3. When is the coach going to instruct the players to yell screen to Clark.

I think in the end, yet another bad decision by the coach. Boston taking the game tying attempt made no sense. She was 5 of 10 in this game to that point. Much worse for the year. And you go to her for the tie. Guess what. She missed. I love AB. Don't get me wrong. But to tie the game that was not where you wanted to go. Terrible decision. There was a lot of stuff that took place, but, at the end, that was the call. This coach is going to make many more terrible calls before this is over, because she has no clue. I believe she is in over her head. And I still think leaning on Wheeler and Wallace the way she does is another huge mistake when you got Berger and Taylor with 0 minutes.

Last night was the best game yet. The changes I've seen since last Thursday, putting Caitlin in as the Point has made an incredible change. She was as uncomfortable as me wearing a dress and heels in the first 2 games. Saturday you only lost by 11, compared to 40 two days earlier. Last night's game could have been won except for several errors. That T on Caitlin didn't help, in fact that was huge. I know what she said, and for me, it was no big deal, but with young kids there, it has to be changed. Other than that I was fairly happy with the shots. Doing better with lay-ups, and 3's are great. This team HAS to come together, and I feel they are so close to that. I still am not happy with the refs, it's a lot different from college games. They don't call obvious calls and then call something that really made no sense. Good job Fever, keep it up.
