Sarah Randall The song speaks about the Human Condition. Our insatiable desire for the new. To fill the emptiness inside each and every one of us. We’re never satisfied and thus our sense of happiness is always short-lived. It also speaks of the inability people may have to be true with themselves and the world around them. Which prevents us to connect in an intimate honest level and as a result we fall into a bottomless well of loneliness and depression.

@@patrick44668 that's a very narrow way of looking at it. Naturally the story shifted to his sons who were not as mature and accomplished so they made many mistakes and so on, but that was the whole point. It also widened the scope of the show. Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean it was bad. Pleanty of epic scenes and heart-breaking moments after Ragnar's death. We just all missed Ragnar but that just means he was a great character.

It is rare for me to NOT skip the intro on shows. THIS, obviously, is one of those exceptions! There’s something about this song that touches something deep, on a primal level, within me. It gladdens me to know that Odin prepares for a feast. Soon I shall be drinking ale from curved horns. This hero that comes into Valhalla does not lament his death! I shall not enter Odin's hall with fear. There I shall wait for my sons to join me. And when they do, I will bask in their tales of triumph. The Aesir will welcome me! My death comes without apology! @@lewisrose3285 they don't get into that. They keep the spiritual stuff a mystery throughout. Is it all in their heads or are the gods and Valhalla real? The fine line between these two possibilities is kept carefully. To the show, all that matters with the paganism is the general zeitgeist, culture, and style of tale (epic). You're meant to feel like you're there are as a Viking and that the spirituality is as ambiguous to you as it is for the rest of your kin.

Hello, fellas. I have a little reading of the lyric, the music and the clip. Lyric: It seems to refer to human greed and the resulting anguish (dukkha). The general inclination of men to fill themselves with objects of desire since infants, but - considering that reality is impermanent - they are never satisfied and always frustrated (vanitas vanitatum). Music: The sound, an electronic gothic, seems slightly motivated by native american music (by the repetitive and hypnotic rhythm), but formatted in a somber Nordic style. The whispered manner of singing and the singer's soft, high-pitched voice - like a sharp breeze - make the music even more ghostly. Clip: The clip begins with a misty scene, nocturnal (darkness), in which a boatman (a guide, Charon?) and children (purity) glide over a river (dissolving element, Letes?) in the middle of a forest (chaos), while shamans (traveling between worlds, see in the dark) with a dog (loyalty, devotion, protection, vigilance, helper) throw lights of mirrors (signs indicating the way). Mirrors do not illuminate but reflect light from another source (it may be from the Moon = unconscious, cyclicity, mind - the Moon reflects the light of the Sun, which symbolizes power, because it emanates without exhausting, the universal spirit etc, or it may be from Torch Fire = Small Sun, human spirit, intellect, etc.). Then it shows the shamans walking through a sumptuous mansion (our civilization, the world) with a lot of well-dressed people dead. Inside the mansion the dog encounters a stag statue (moral good, faith, devotion, strength, courage, petrified? Gold: extravagance, ostentation, corruption for luxury?). Soon after, a woman of cadaverous appearance (Death) appears in the forest, caressing a white cat (nocturnal, spectral, auxiliary?). It follows an image of a bookcase full of books (the accumulated knowledge) and one of the shamans observing a room with sculptures and other objects of art and decoration (the cultural patrimony). It ends by showing the shamans crossing a field, the painted face of the black boatman (an outsider, an excluded, a servant?) and the boat in the sea (danger, possibility of finding new worlds). So, what do you think? Sorry for my english, it's not my first language.

Think song exemplifies the total stripping of innocence from Jesse Pinkman, who, while technically an adult, has the emotional vulnerability of a child. Never before have I felt such sorrow and anguish for a TV character than I did for Jesse as he rode by himself on the go-cart track, (with this song playing in the background) trying to salvage what little purity of mind was left. This song is a haunting reminder that we all have a fragile child within us that has the ability to reveal our inner beauty, or shatter irreparably, sending us into chaos and despair.

It all ties together... Vitamin D deficiency is a risk factor for MS and some parts of Norway have the highest rates of MS in the world, a Viking Disease, it seems. Look up MS and Latitude in Google and click on Images. Everyone further out than +- 30 degrees latitude should get their vitamin D checked. Mine was low, too, at +44 degrees. Norway is 60+ degrees.

+Becca Permenter Yeah, I would like to contribute to your comment or at least be helpful to your question. I don't know of other Fever Ray songs, so like many here, Breaking Bad brought me here. Sorry, but I hope you can appreciate my input in that, this song is catchy , which lead me to watching the video, which lead me to theorizing that Fever Ray the artist/band/? is actively in Recovery? At the 01:09 backs up my theory somewhat with the recovery symbols on the bldg. and the dead bodies in the pool, signifying the people that didn't make it or had to walk over along the way. Also, the theme of the TV series? For Jesse? Input? Agree? Disagree? Don't care?
