I believe that Godfrey was against the imprisonment of his Omen sons and the mistreatment of the Omen / Misbegotten due to his ties with the Crucible Knights. Seeing as he lead them in battle; and they use Horns and Tails and shit. I have a theory that’s why he was banished. Marika saw their sons as a curse, he saw their strength.

Marikas reasons for banishing the tarnished including Godfrey and stripping them of grace is not because she had any sort of contempt towards them but because of a plan that she had come up with. Marika didnt think aspects of the crucible (horns, tails and wotnot) were a curse, but the golden order did and over time, the actual thing she began to hate was the Golden Order and this could be for multiple reasons. Some of which u mentioned. I personally think tht she did love Godfrey and their children but because the Golden despised aspects of the crucible and she was the poster girl for the Golden Order she had to listen to what it had to say. Anything else would be heresy. So she came up with a plan. She began by stripping the tarnished of their grace. Tarnished were all warriors of Godfrey and they were all very strong or very knowledgable and grace was the blessings that the Golden Order granted to its people but I also think its grace acts as a sort of surveillance as well. wen granted with the blessings of grace, u will also always be able to be influenced by the Golden Order and tracked to some degree as well (just a theory, but i do think this might be accurate because of dialogue Melina gives you). Once we have been divulged of grace and apart from the Golden Order, Marika apparently advised Godfrey and his soldiers (the tarnished) to go to foreign lands and become strong. That is dialogue straight from Melina. Then she advised that the tarnished will grow strong and die, aall the while the Golden Order has no idea and well seems to not even care about us either. So the tarnished get really strong and then Marika takes away the rune of death and the tarnished that got really strong come back to life for the sole purpose of destroying the Golden Order. The whole game is like a massive revenge story that spans thousands of years but in the end, we the Tarnished, succeed this shit is long, did not realise.

As Enia said, the rune of death was “plucked from the Golden Order upon its creation.” By the time we get to the lands between, the Golden Order is an ancient religious sect, so removing the rune of death could not be the catalyst for the Tarnished being revived

The opening cutscene advises that the tarnished were blessed once more and wen they were blessed again (which is the start of the game) they are revived from death. Before the game started, they were stripped of grace which meant that they would die and not be revived through the erdtree but then when the game starts, they were again blessed by grace which had them revived, kind of like a delayed (by presumably thousands of years) revival by grace. At least i think that makes sense.

Placidussax was the true first Elden Lord, before Farum Azula existed. For context: Farum Azula has been around for hundreds of thousands of years, it is basically the prehistory of the Lands Between, the only "humanoids" of the time where the Numen wich where alien to begin with and the Beastmen wich where gifted sapiance by Placidussax himself and his wife (the first vessel of the ER). After Placidussax's wife vanished, someone else we don't know became vessel of the ER (probably one of the Nox, since the blade we give Ranni is pretty much the same type of the one wielded by the Elden Beast, wich is made by a "punished vessel", we can assume that the ER belonged to the Nox at some point and they tried to do some shit wich didn't go well, after all they did "invoke the wrath of the Greater Will") only then came Marika. Also yes, the Great Tree and the Erdtree are the same thing, it is all just a misconception due to poor localization, in japanase there has never been a doubt about it. The Age of the Erdtree begun with Marika, wich imposed new rules that demonized the Crucible, but the Erdree has alwais beeing around, and alwais being the same. Marika was an hypocrit, her imperfection was the flaw of the order as stated by the Rune of Perfect Order, her ideas and belifes didn't rapressent that of the Greater Will. I mean, think about it: the Rune of Death for example was PART of the ER, Placidussax had it, the Nox had it, and then Marika decided "fuck death, I want to be immortal" and removed it. If the Greater Will didn't want Death to exist why put it on the ER in the first place?

Think about it if the Erdtree gained so much significance that it overshadowed The crucible tree, the one that came first, then it's safe to assume that the DLC might involve The crucible tree. I think it's more probable that it is Helphen, the great tree in the after-life that guides the dead. You can see Helphen's steeple description to understand more about it. SPOILER Actually, this is inaccurate. The "Great tree" is a translation error. In the original description, the Kanji for the "Great tree" is the same used for the Erdtree. The Crucible was not formed BEFORE the arrival of the elden beast, but WITH the landing of the "Golden Star". The Crucible is the primordial form of the Erdtree, THE tree, THE ONLY tree that ever was. The knights were punished only because, at some point, the golden order decided that the Chaos they represented was bad for their image. Betrayed, they are just wandering the lands between. One of them felt so betrayed by the Order that he started serving Rykard, aka Mr.Blasphemy. Sorry for the errors

Elden Ring gameplay is a lot more fluid and crisp but encountering the black knight with Great Sword in the starting area is an unforgettable gaming moment for me. Towards the end of the Ordovician period, a giant meteor wiped out most life on earth, and in the following epoch, the Silurian, life continued to diversify and the first vascular plants evolved. The lore implication is that the Crucible was created by a giant meteor (the crater in the center of the map that now houses a sea is likely the remnants of the impact). The meteor likely contained or was the Fell God. All life caught up in the impact was merged into "Red Gold" which the Giants used along with the "Aspects of the Crucible" to forge new life at the Giant's Forge. The Great Tree was before the Crucible Tree and emitted a white glow. It created the Miranda Flowers who shoot white light. The Crucible Tree was created when the Elden Beast crashed into the Great Tree, destroying it in the process. This caused the Great Tree’s stump to regenerate which had competing sprouts which eventually fused together. This was the Crucible Tree which had an orange glow which is why Crucible Knight light is orange. It’s also where this race of beings who had aspects of every creature were made due to the corrupted nature of the Crucible. But as the tree grew and matured the orange glow became golden and those mixed lifeforms evolved into separate species.

@@IkariNoi iirc, the misbegotten are (or were) humans who had made contact with the crucible and developed mutations from it, such as their wings and other beastly aspects, which was also once seen as a divine thing until it grew to becoming blasphemous and disgraceful over time, the crucible knights don’t seem to be misbegotten at all since they don’t have the same posture or larger than normal heads that misbegotten do, but since they’re so old they could be what misbegotten had previously looked like when they were considered more divine, assuming there was any sort of visual change to them.

I honestly thought that the Crucible Knights were just particularly strong members of Hoorah Loux’s clan. It would make sense that he would bring some of his own warriors to the Lands Between. I figured that they were drawn more towards the Crucible way of life, since it fits with their theme of being natural and brave. I suspect that the armor and shields they were granted, was a means of cultural integration. Like Hoorah himself, they shunned excess adornment, but the Lands Between was more “civilized”, so they conformed, as did Hoorah with his own armor.

I know a lot of people hated them for their moveset and poise but I absolutely love these dudes. Tanis' bodyguard was such a stylistic 10/10. The shield on the regular knights is a bit off for me, but the axe set, beautiful greatsword. Coloration. Fantastic follow up to dark souls traditional Black Knights.

Great Tree misconception just stemmed from translation error by the localisers. When japanese original text speaks of Great Tree, it refers to Erdtree. Erdtree is the Great Tree. Furthermore, Greater Will, outer God you refer to, was worshipped in Crucible Era and even as far back as in heyday of Farum Azula. Dragons and beastmen were the first worshippers of the Greater Will, which is shown in their ritualistic use of gold, five finger symbolism, previous Elden Ring depiction in Maliketh's arena, etc. Dragons made peace with Leyndell when both parties discovered through mutually exchanged lightning bolts, that they, in fact, serve the same deity. Lightning harbors primordial gold/life essence. Dragons just use primordial red lightning, while "gods" use golden lightning. But it is all derived from the same root. I know this is a minor detail, but "Often"? There are literally only 16 of them in the entire game and most are in completely optional areas. Basically the only ones I'd assume most people encountered are the one in Stormveil, the one in the Evergaol, and the two in Nokron. Even the one that's the boss fight with the Misbegotten Warrior in Caelid is missable if you just don't go back to Redmane Castle after fighting Radahn. Siluria and Ordovis are both real easy to miss.

isnt the erd tree, the great tree? its the same thing. The golden order is whats newer, and more pretentious. Brought by greedy corrupt softer and newer generations. They still respect god frey, first elden lord and his ancient crucible knights... but they shifted the balance of power, portraying servants of that age as cursed monsters( misbegotten, omen...etc). Though, the DLC does show a different twisted tree.... I was thinking it was the halig tree of the past, but anything is possible.

With all the lore I’ve ever heard, and more that I keep hearing, it sounds like “The Lands Between” are suppose to be just THAT the lands BETWEEN and all of the outer gods keep trying to take over this transitional area where you can go from one outer god’s lands, go through “The Lands Between”, and go out to w/e other outer god’s lands you want to get to so Ranni’s ending and the frenzied flame ending are the 2 best cuz it gets rid of the outer gods being in charge.

The Great tree and the Erdtree are the same thing except for the fact that the rune of death was inside the tree before the Golden order removed it from the tree so that Death should not exist. I don't Remember what description says It but the Great tree Is said It was Red (color of the rune of death thst we can see from the attacks of maliketh and the black knives), I think it was the crucible knights shield but I'm not sure, I'm not an expert. One description that is not clear for sure is the armor of the chubby godskin dropped on the bridge of Liurnia's divine tower. This misconception comes from mistaken translation of some descriptions and the hard to remove idea that these trees are two separate beings that fossilised in the community (Sorry If i have done some mistakes, I'm not a native english speaker)

So they possess a lot of strength and don’t seem to age. What if there really avatars of the crucible given there own free will.
