I have been playing consistently casually since Season 2 and have put tons of time into D4. While never playing enough to really get hardcore into endgame, it's still been enjoyable and I have certainly enjoyed my time. All the new systems have also made the game quite enjoyable and I really can't wait to play the Spiritborn.

Im in the same boat here. Dipping back in for new seasons for a couple weeks has made the purchase of the base game fully worth it. Its a bit of a steep cost for the DLC but I think it will be worth it.

You can think about it like this. I recently played Black Myth : Wukong. I must say it was the best money I’ve spent on a game. I have even gotten the Platinum Trophy for it. As of right now after 70 hours of Wukong I have stopped playing even though it was so fun and addictive. On the other hand, I have played 1000 hours of D4. Now imagine me playing 1000 hours of Wukong, it just won’t happen. So for me paying $40 for the D4 expansion is barely a purchase. I might or might not like it but it’s a fair price in my opinion. That $40 can carry you for many more seasons and is totally worth it. Especially, with inflation nowadays, $40 can’t get you much anyways. For people that are tight on money, making this purchase might seem a bit unreasonable, and that’s understandable.

m8 i dont think its a money problem, people just cant stop complaining about every little thing in a game, and about the game its one of the reasons why games are so bad nowadays, im not saying diablo is bad or anything, every game has a flaw in the design somewhere, theres no way around that. but blizzard or whatever company is responsible for this game could have done so much better. the developers were just asking for the hate and complaints but they really messed up so much for no reason and it almost felt like an amateur team made the game for the first time in their life. this, of course, sounds like a complaint but it's just true. and i can't wait to play the spiritborn class

Probably playing wrong. I played the base game and didn't play again until these last 2 seasons. Leveling up was pretty quick if you focus on leveling up. But the process is tedious.

I personally really like it, the Spiritborn feels extremely versatile and fun. The new area feels pretty cool. Havent finished the VoH campaign yet but im liking so far. Also the rework of the game mechanics like the loot and difficulty settings feels nice. Also really like the new pacing of the game as well.

Few questions for a newbie. As someone who just started playing the Diablo games, is it worth getting this expansion now, or should I finish the main campaign first? Currently I'm playing Diablo 4 via Xbox gamepass, I'm enjoying it so far, and I am also wondering if it's worth purchasing the ultimate edition upgrade and if it's worth playing the older games in the series. Main reason for asking is that while I'm enjoying the game so far (still very early in the main campaign) I've noticed there seems to be a lot of negative reviews and I'm wondering why it seems to be getting so much hate.

Hard pass for me. The game, at its core, is entirely bland. This expansion doesn’t do nearly enough to fix what is fundamentally wrong with the game. The itemization is still far too shallow and the end game systems are still lacking.

Even w/all the bumps and bruises along the way, I never stopped playing D4 entirely (yes, I took some breaks to play Horizon, but only b/c I needed something different). Very good review, but i have one very minor gripe. The complaint with 1.1 beeing that it hurt creativity. I genuienly had to chuckle there. "People" do not care about creativity and creating their own builds. The vast majority is looking up meta builds online. People were mad, because the internet has EXTREME issues every single time something gets taken away from them, even if it's for the good of the game.

This is why leaderboards are one of the most important things in seasons. So your gear at the time and your best effort is recorded in the armory/leaderboard. It makes the effort worth it and also gives the eternal realm some value.

glad reviews are positive but generally I don't care, I'm gonna play it anyway, its a game you play for years, its worth it

I have played the expansions casually, hitting 100 a couple of times. There is no way in hell I'm paying $40 for a new class.

infernal hoardes, the improvements to loot and itemization, and the improvements to helltide were big improvements imho

The only thing keeping me away from coming back is the seasonal character, I don’t want to pour hours into a character for them to become obsolete in x amount of time

Diablo is about the journey, I was as you against it but now I accept it and it actually makes the game fresh. Seasons are two weeks max stands every 3 months.

There's nothing keeping you from playing on the eternal realm.

Eternal realm is there for that. 1. I play season 2. The fun characters I continue to play in Eternal.
