I was like this as a kid. I had really low self esteem and would make a bunch of stuff up about myself because i truly believed there was nothing about me anyone would like or find interesting. So I'd just make up all these tall tales of these amazing adventures id go on and embellish everything. I mean i never faked my death or pretended i was in the mob though lmao. I remember this guy who I assume was obsessed with harem-type anime because several 'girls' (a cousin, his sister, close friend) at several points 'stole his phone' to talk to us on discord and say how they adore him and how awesome he is (he 'worked at Square Enix' btw xD). At some point he got less popular because new people arrived and suddenly his 'cousin' emerges to tell us he had an accident and is worried. And just like 'Robert' using "uhmm..." and "......" to indicate they're processing thoughts and speaking slowly lol. Some did buy it but some of us where like 'dude, why do you not just speak to his family and not a bunch of people on a discord server that can't do anything about it?'. Those who believed didn't necessarily realized that this was clearly a lie but nonetheless were like "Yeah go talk to his family so they can help!" so they just left lol

That is insane! I once upon a time when I was 16 acted out as a girl in the mmo city of villain’s, I ,flirted with a boy and made up the wildest stories but at the point where I bamboozled him into buying me a new expensive ps2 controller and send it to a PO Box. I knew that it went way beyond funny….. I could not bring myself to admit the truth to him, so I just vanished and deleted all things that we had contact on! I wasn't close with them but I had a mutual friend's discord account be controlled by their mother to message friends in a discord server that they had passed away. To let them know that the people they played with in the discord were people that meant a lot to them. It's insulting seeing Lambo's stupid attempt for attention in this manner.

I had a roomate like this guy once. Just rolled my eyes a lot about his whiteknighting and military stories that bordered on stolen valor (did serve but was dishonorably discharged). My sister was visiting me at my apartment once and she was very pregnant at the time so she was already in a bad mood. Dude starts talking about how he fended off a dude perving on a pregnant woman in the sandwich shop he worked at. She was looking for a chance to explode at him and she found it when he said he made the woman he saved a free tuna sandwich. This story reminds me of a guy I used to play with on a different MMO. OP had Lambo Lala, and our guild had Jaja Joe; his nickname due to him being from Puerto Rico, and whenever he laughed in chat, he would say, "Jajajaja." Overall, he was a nice guy, but oh my god, the amount of pure bollocks that came out of his mouth at times was just so silly. Never went as far as to fake his own death, but he would disappear for a week or two and come back with crazy stories how he'd met a group of female Australian college students when he was on vacation, and then showed us all the pictures. These pictures we're blatantly taken off something like 'Girls Gone Wild.' It was blatantly a load of shit - everyone in the guild knew it - but we used to humour him anyway, more so just to keep the peace rather than anything. I think he eventually got banned from the game for RMTing. Some people are people pleasers. They will spout shit that they think will impress you and that it'll get them into your good graces. I have never been interested in locker room chat because it's all just thinly veiled misogyny, but some people genuinely think that's how guys make friends with other guys on MMOs.

Sounds like my old FC leader I knew in Tonberry. How she pretended to be a girl the entire time, using voice changing mods during voice calls and trying to gaslight me at the time when I joined FF14 for the first time, trying to get me to be one of the officers for the FC and gaslight me up to becoming the manager for the FC's upcoming RP events weekly. all up until she faked her death, logs back on pretending to be the "Older Brother" of the account owner, tells us the fc crew that his younger sister has just passed away "last night" and so he will be taking over the account. I was kinda like that Op of the story where it just felt really sus.

didn't happen in game, but there was a kid in my high school who faked having cancer. it went on for mooonths where he would shave all of his hair off and act sick all the time. had a girlfriend and everything that was convinced. we found out it was fake when his mom got a call from school, cus she showed up to make a scene and take him home. the messed up part is one of the math teachers had a son (age 5-8 range) who ACTUALLY had cancer. so when he found out, he literally wanted to fight that kid who faked it, he was so upset.

I've had something similar happen some years ago back when I was still on Balmung before Stormblood dropped. Wasn't an FC member but a member of the FC with the house next to ours and it bled into some of my friend circles both in game and over discord. No idea if it was true or not, personally I don't believe it but someone claiming to be the person's rl sister logged into their discord account and made a group chat with basically their entire friend list and said the guy died and posted all sorts of information including an obituary, but no one had ever seen the person before so wasn't able to make any decisions one way or another based on it. The entire thing just felt fake and made up.

I've encountered someone who wanted to show off maturity by faking having a gamer wife, to a guild of a cutesy anime game where most players were just teens or young adults. He used a voice changer to record a slew of words and short sentences onto a soundboard then played them on his fake wife's Ventrilo account (this was a long time ago) when talking to guildies in voice chat. When asked why his "wife" sounded kinda manly, he responded that she was transgender. But he would sometimes mis-click the soundboard so that recorded sounds would overlap each other lol. It didn't take long before most guildies caught on that he was faking his wife, and stopped talking to him in game or on Ventrilo, without telling him why. Eventually he went quiet and one day, his "wife" wrote to us in game that the guy died in a traffic accident, and linked to us a news channel video of a fatal car accident that happened on the same day. Problem was, the accident happened in a city a few time zones away from where the couple said they live in. We pointed that discrepancy out to the "wife" and she went furious, cussed a lot, accused us of showing no sympathy (which was totally out of "her" character), then left the guild.
