I'd get jealous too if my boyfriend was chatting one-on-one with another girl for hours and watching shows with her, and she'd try to smuggle him away to a private discord call whenever I'd hop in to chat. The LAST thing I'd do is write her an apology. OP is trash talking the pettiest stuff to make the BF seem like a bad person - marshmallow IRL, edgy au'ra dark knight, flirts with his own gf, gets mad over games. OP sounds like someone who used to be in my fc. Hung out with a bunch of the taken women, would throw punches at their partners when they were around, and took zero responsibility for anything. He also claimed he had “done so much for the fc” and asked for everything back when he got called out finally. This story seems heavily tilted towards the OP with zero reflection on the part they played. Those people are toxic as hell.

This is total PTSD to me. Years ago I was sort of in Nix's shoes (and slightly in the OP's shoes). When I began playing FFXIV around 2.0 era, one of my first friends was a guy that I leveled up with. We were total besties It felt. I was already in an rl relationship, but unlike this story, my husband who was my fiance at the time never really gave a crap about who I played with, thank god (We had that agreement years ago). My friend and I leveled up through the main story and even bought houses near each other when the first subdivisions were released. But, the FC we were in, kind of 'shipped' us. I loved them all like family, but they always assumed my friend and I were a couple due to the fact that we hung out a lot. My friend knew I was engaged, My fc knew that, it really didn't matter to them or they always forgot and assumed my friend was my fiance lol. When the wedding update came, the talk of it went rampant. My friend and I talked about it based on the benefits the system had rather than the symbolism. As leveling buddies, the instant travel rings and double Chocobo just seemed like a plus. So we agreed to do it. As time went on, I got fairly busy in life (I was also pregnant) and it was tough to slow down and make time for the game, along with rl personal drama. By the time I got back on the game (like 4 months after) my friend told me he wanted to 'divorce', which was perfectly fair. I always told him if he found someone to marry for an actual relationship, he should go for it. What should have been the end of the story..wasn't. Due to conflicting schedules and differences in levels, we weren't able to play the same (he was doing bigger raids than me) and I honestly just wanted a level buddy but understood that he needed time with his gf. But what made this situation awkward is that the FC tried to play matchmaker for me as if we literally broke up and apparently, my friend didn't like that. As a matter of fact..after that moment every little thing pissed him off somehow. The FC's 'matchmaking', my new level buddy, me considering leaving the world to help a few friends. Even when I was asked about why I wasn't leaving, I said it would suck for my level buddy because I knew how it feels to not have anyone to play with. So while everyone was happy I wasn't leaving, he was the only one mad that I was staying due to someone else. Wasn't long before the explosive chats on skype, and private linkshells happened. He told me I was 'forbidden' to marry my level buddy, and It just became months and months of bashing and insults. But similar to what the OP said of Nix's bf, it was an 'on and off' situation. One moment he'd explode over little things that I couldn't even fathom to understand (and tried to..believe me), the next he'd sit in the front yard of my in-game house saying he was torn between me and his gf. I told him, so many times that I could never give him what he wanted and that his gf was definitely the better choice. As strange as it may sound, in this whole situation of being insulted and bashed on, the friend in me wanted to help him. So, for the most part, I just chucked it up to "he's going through something, he doesn't mean that" and talk him through it all and help him with his relationship. It never helped and the issue persisted. Constantly saying "I like her, but I have feelings for you.", which okay fine, but he's in a good relationship and I tried to help him see that. My FC was blind to it because it all took place on skype and private linkshells. There was only one person who knew about this and he was a mutual friend and he was so torn about it. Some weeks were easier then others and I really loved my FC, but I never thought someone i'd call a bestie would harass me in such an out-of-character way. It got to the point where he'd harass my level buddy as well and even his friends. That's when I realized this was out of my control. The thing is, at that point, i knew the fc wouldn't believe me in this. My friend was a high rank of the fc, active, dependable, well-needed, and honestly, if someone were even to tell me that he was capable of what he was did, I probably would have called them liars too. I did try to tell a FC member about it who also knew him well, and she apparently was semi-aware but said "don't worry it'll get better." and that was that. Mind you, I'm still pregnant after all this and the stress was getting to me, even logging in was a pain. No longer was it a safe space. Sometime later, he and his gf randomly broke up and the interactions became even worse. One day, he chose to be really mean in a mutual friend's linkshell, and literally, I just snapped. They were so shocked because I'm never liked that. I also just left the FC without a thought...that's how bad it got for me. Everyone instantly demanded answers from me, because they knew I wouldn't leave randomly and for nothing. I honestly didn't want to say it because I knew it was going to cause problems, but I did end up telling the upper officers. They were all divided, some who were my friends did call me a liar as I expected. I kept some of the skype chats and had a few screenshots. But it wasn't enough for everyone. I just wanted peace of mind after all of that honestly. For some reason, he painted the picture that I was crazy or jealous of his gf? Also he tried to say that my level buddy 'brain-washed' me and took me away from the FC, and due to that half of the FC hated my level-buddy. But obviously the chats I saved said otherwise. What really really hit the nail on this coffin of friendship was that he admitted that he never saw us as good friends and that he always wanted to date me from day one. After that, I blocked him and never heard from him again. Would you believe all of that happened before Heavensward was even released? And ironically I haven't been married in-game after that. But since then whenever there's an issue in an FC for harassment or anything of the like, I'm always willing to listen and getting to the bottom of what happened. I wouldn't wish that feeling on anyone and It's something I make sure members address before it becomes too much.

It's kind of crazy that the OP has so little self-awareness that they can't realize they're the drama llama / bad guy of the story. A 'friend' of theirs wants to hang out with their boyfriend, who just wants to do casual content and relax with them. The boyfriend won't even interfere with them watching anime and hanging out, just wants to be included and play games in the channel with them. They're actively angry that the two of them are nice to each other and speak romantically. Then, they pressured their friend to sympathize with them to shut them up and took it as gospel. Finally, it all ends when they aggravates rhe friend while she's hurt that a pandemic won't let her visit her partner, and apparently says some stuff so bad that it ruins their friendship and makes the boyfriend (who remember, the OP is claiming is spineless) come to talk to them and go "What the hell is wrong with you!?" just to then blow up on the boyfriend and make themselves a pariah among the friend group. After all that, they are exiled out and hedged from the social circle. Even after all this, they *still* haven't figured out they're the garbage drama llama. Truly amazing.

The moment I heard OP start talking about how 'dumb' it was that their friend was upset, how much they've been there for Nix, and how they deserve so much respect, it really made me feel uneasy. Especially the women-are-always-right and the way the OP laid into Val. If OP has felt this way since day one and it was THAT BAD that the OP completely went off like that, it screams nice guy. The whole thing made me feel like OP was trying to say that Nix owed them sooooo much for all the times they were there for them. I understand feeling as if the other person whom calls themselves your friend isn't there for you as much but, it seems that wasn't the case. It seems as if Nix was there for OP as much as OP was there for them BUT, the difference being OP gained feelings. It also seems like OP never actually confronted those feelings of possibly liking Nix more than a friend which led to this spiral from the moment OP got upset at Nix for being severely upset at not getting to see their BF. In all honesty, OP was in the wrong for seemingly trying to get Nix to brush her feelings off like that. To go to someone and trying to gently cheer them up is one thing but, to repeatedly approach someone who is clearly REALLY upset and try over and over to get them to just brush it off would honestly make anyone angry. Since OP went nuclear towards the end and unfriended everyone, why didn't they move servers? It also seems like OP blew this up completely. It seemed like it went from a level 2 drama to a level 10 so quickly. It also sounds like they were kinda putting words/assuming things about others in the FC and could've been getting what others said misconstrued. All in all, OP seems like a red flag. I'm not saying Nix and Val are innocent or anything but, the way OP was talking through out the whole thing was kinda toxic. I think everyone in the story is in the wrong but, OP reminds me of a manipulative friend who would make webs of lies to put friends against each other just so said friend could have them for themselves. All in all, this was just all around bad and I hope I never meet this player.

I've seen this too many times to count. I've even been a apart of a few of these sorts of things but I dip out the second I see the rocks start to fall in a relationship. Person A: in relationship is self conscious and recognizes they're not good enough for their partner, doesn't know how to improve and is worried about losing partner. Person B: is in relationship with Person A, doesn't care about their faults, but because of growing insecurities the two become distant and Person B starts looking for support. Person C: Outsider who supports Person B through rough patch and because they're able to communicate and listen to their friend and spend a lot of time emotionally vulnerable around each other creates a deeper relationship on the surface when in reality there's usually no other grounds to say they'd be a good romantic pairing, but one always gets a crush and because Person A is growing more and more insecure and distant and is unable to properly communicate and Person B is unwillingly to understand that Person C is making Person A become worse everything goes downhill. It's a mess of miscommunications, bad moments, fake feelings, and bullshit. If you find yourself in any of these situations, whether you be A, B, or C. The most important thing you can do, As Person A or B, speak to your partner. No one else. Your relationship problems should be solved between the two of you. If things go south because of it, so be it. Better that way than getting a third party involved. As Person C, LEAVE. GO. SHOO. Yes you wanna support your friend but OH MY GOD YOU ARE DOING NO ONE ANY FAVORS. Tell them to go speak to their partner when they have an issue. If they say they can't, then it's not your problem. If they bring up relationship shit, I don't care how much you wanna help SHUT IT DOWN. It's not good. Cease. LEAVE. RUN AWAY. You're gonna make things worse even if they seem to get better.

As someone whose seen these things happen so often even in my server of Famfrit, Honestly both the OP and the clingy boyfriend both sound pretty terrible. I've seen terrible situations where best friends started harassing eachother simply because one honestly wanted to date the other(like c'mon,no means no! Respect it and move on). Then there were fcs broken up due to an overly clingy lovers that never really wanted to be there or got caught cheating etc. But in the same light, does anyone believe in platonic relationships anymore?! frienships of all kinds exist. Maybe it's just due to me having friends of both genders or being an ace woman, but two people of opposite genders watching something doesn't really seem like a big deal, unless the partner is deeply insecure and that's a red flag within itself. If I play FF and my partner plays COD, i'm not going to freak out because they have a friendly circle there, and they wouldn't do the same to me. Just because hobbies differ doesn't mean you can't both do something ya like together later. We all need me time every now and then, I think more relationships (platonic and romantic) need to realise this.

This is why some guys would not let their gfs have male friends. There are often times when it may seem like harmless but when the other guy his gf is friend with is hanging out with her more and more, it gives off that sus vibe that the guy will develope feelings towards her and give her the ideas that he is better than her bf. I have seen this way too often in relationship. To me in this story, I kind of see the OP developing feelings towards his friend (even if he doesn't realize it or deny it) and pretty much lost his chance at the girl especially if he tell that vale person of "how he is amazed to get a gf" which kind of speak to me that he wasn't able to get his feelings out before that guy does to nyx. Some guys gotta learn to go for the chase and not let the prey get away especially when you know you been around that girl for X amount of time. And I agree with you on the part when you mention when a guy friend tells his female friend that he don't like her bf cause of reasons, in a female eyes that is definitely jealous whether the guy friend emit or not, he was definitely pushing some feelings out without realizing it. But yeaa I know if my bf caught me watching movies or anime with another guy, I wouldn't be surpised if he gets protective. When op and nyx decided to watch anime, I'm not surpised vale decided to jump in, that's like number one bf protective mode especially when he cares for the girl he is with. Op and the rest of the mentioned were just not in their right heads and some stuff were just not mixing well. In my opinion, OP is sus, you don't go talking down on someone's partner, you can let the person vent, but you should never be the one bringing them down. For example, I had a friend who was married, and she was going through a rough patch. I would try to put her husband's viewpoint into perspective for her to try to get them to work things out. In the end, they got divorced, but I would never speak down on him. I've had people speak down on my girlfriend and I immediately chew them out for it or cut contact with them, I don't care how bad things get between me and her, our problems are exactly that, our problems, no one else's, no one else fully understands the situation and they don't have a voice in the matter. They can try to get me to see from her perspective, but I won't put up with putting her down.

You know, I saw some video a few days ago about someone talking about why people would play a MMO alone. THIS is one of the reasons why I choose to play alone. Of course I do join groups for Raids or Dungeons and I am in a FC. I help when someone needs help but other than that I do my thing. I don't join Voice Chats and I rarely every write something in the FC's Discord. I just want to play FF14 without Drama and without having to deal with someone elses problems or dramas because that would probably ruin the game for me and since I love this game I won't let that happen.

Tbh we don't know the boundaries the GF/BF put up. Platonic or not, at times it does feel kinda iffy if you see your significant other with the opposite/attracted gender alone in VC when you know the person might be attracted to your SO. Though, my opinion overall: Should've just made a discord VC where everyone is forced muted to watch if you really were just gonna watch anime together in a discord server and don't want others to talk and disturb the watching experience and communicate in a mute VCtext channel or something. My ex had a friend like OP; it worked out for him because 6 months after we split up due to COVID he managed to ingratiate himself into her life. I mean, he was a lucky crypto-rich & retired guy in his 20s but I was locked away from her after 6 years due to COVID borders. So it damaged our relationship. But the thing is. I left this guy alone, they played tons of games, watched anime, did lots together. I never cared or got controlling. But when he tried to damage our relationship I had to speak up. He visited/stayed over at her place. I trusted her that much. Nothing happened but he got drunk and confessed his love, then flew home and left an apology "thousands of dollars worth of money" envelope on the table. I was upset he did that and said he couldn't visit RL unless we were together as a group but I still dismissed it. But I told him, I was greatly disappointed with him. He started giving her an ultimatum that their friendship was over so long as I stayed. Still after a year of that, I tolerated that nonsense but the well was poisoned and since we were on lockdown the RL bond that overrode that wore away between us until we split up. He then paid for all our friends to have a meet-up in NYC, so yeah, nice guy syndrome. I'm sorry but sometimes opposite gender bestfriends are an escape that let you emotionally cheat instead of working on your bond with your partner. Its a complicated mess.

Yeah, this is one of my fears... I try to be a nice partner and let my significant other have friends of the opposite gender because I don't want to come off as controlling or whatever. However, recently, my partner admitted that one of his girl friends offered her couch to him since he has a long commute from work (she lives in the city where he works). Had some drama over the weekend, a tank wanted 50k gill, and they decided to slow pull everything. I wanted to kill them like I did another tank last year but the final boss didn't have the proper attacks to facilitate it. as for last year, an entitled tank was complaining about how new players were destroying the game by buying boost books. we couldn't boot the guy because they refused to roll for loot. but the final boss had line aoes that targeted each player. I simply ran behind the tank and watched them get destroyed. we wiped but it also gave us the opportunity to boot the tank to get a better one.

So as someone who is married and has a hubby who doesn't mind that I have guy friends, he lets me privately talk to my friends all the time when we're just chatting. However if I were to watch a movie with any of them I certainly wouldn't mind my hubby joining us because he's my partner and I love doing anything that he's involved in because I love him. He has friends who are girls but I definitely would feel some kind of way if he wanted to be in a private discord call with her and I wasn't invited or not allowed. Your significant other should always come first before friends as long as boundaries are set and respected. If boundaries are being pushed and strained then the two shouldn't be together if they can't respect each other's wishes. Plain and simple as that. I personally wouldn't mind my hubby watching a movie with friends who are girls as long as I'm there in the call with him. lol Cuz it's not him I don't trust, it's everyone else I don't trust and some people will try and make moves on people whether they are taken or not so I just like to be there just in case such a thing happens and I can defuse the situation by reminding them that I'm his partner.

i think watching movies or anime together is really strange. i guess its some thing close friends can do sometimes but whenever i got into that situation everytime i felt strongly for them but it seems the other didn't got that feeling, yet i was still the only person they wanted to watch stuff together with. and joining the discords voice happens alot. i got a couple friends who just get on hoping we play the game they play whilst we were already on. and whilst that's fine sometimes it does get really annoying, ppl talking about different games through eachother. and you don't want to tell a friend off.
