Actually, fun fact... in an official Final Fantasy VII encyclopedia guide book, it was confirmed canon that Supernova is really just a hyper-realistic illusion that Sephiroth summoned up to make the party FEEL like they were being obliterated with Meteor. He basically sat and made them go through that entire thing, just to try and imagine the pomp and grandeur with which he was going to destroy the planet with. Basically re-iterating that Sephiroth is both a sadist AND a smug fuck.

Sephiroth brings everyone into a different dimension (which you literally see happen in the cutscene when reality shatters) during a specific point in time where a meteor crashes into the solar system. This is not an illusion in any shape way or form. Even if you try and say cloud and party have never dealt with an attack this fearsome and should be dead, the FF lore knocks that out of the park. There are summons who literally destroy planets (see the bahamut fury cutscene from FF crisis core) or who “heals a great wound on the earth” -quote from the FF remake for Shiva’s bio, implying she created a multi continental size glaciar to heal the earth after being hit by a large meteor, which was also in a cutscene. The lore, canon material, and literal cut scenes in game support supernova actually happening. Death battle even stated this. In other games, Kefka (main antagonist of another FF game) throws a galaxy at the main players. This is not an illusion

Now, I want you guys to stop and think about that comet for a second. It has enough mass and kinetic energy to bore straight through a moon sized terrestrial, and two gas giants simultaneously while still having enough energy afterwards to implode the sun. Not to mention the comet went through intergalactic travel in a matter of seconds, so we can assume it's traveling faster than the speed of light. This is entirely possible, given that the comet is in another reality with the possibility of having completely different physics. Sephiroth is more than a god, he would be able to destroy galaxies if he wanted.

You can combine both to get what you are looking for, but one doesn't necessarily equal the other as the word "god" can have several different meanings. In Christianity and other monotheistic religions, I am fairly sure it is the equivalent to his name, hence why Christians associate the word "God" with omnipotence. This brings me back to the old days and my start as a video editor myself when Dexter Manning on KZbin was known as "Dexterboy124" and this was used with the PS1 days and Cloud, Barret, Red and Sephiroth are having a comical conversation during the whole scene. The math is what it makes Supernova. Also: You fight Sephiroth to prevent him from damaging (not destroying) Gaia with Meteor. Yet in the same battle he destroys the entire Solar System *several times over* (boy does he love to spam that move) Maybe, just maybe fighting him wasn't such a good idea?
