Given I feel Necron to be BS on a variety of level, I think an expansion of the concept expressed by Trance Kuja would have been the best way to end the game. And the music is great too.

In all fairness, I see why you feel that way but I disagree with you that I'm probably going to leave a small wall. Short text: I like that Necron has nothing to do with the story because what he represents has everything to do with all the major players in the story. Kuja was the main antagonist, but life, death and how people choose to live it in the meantime is a fascinating story that is explored by three of it's main characters. There's Zayne who is a small crook on a big stage who left a life of crime on this big quest and is ultimately a pretty swell guy if a bit cocky, but generally is down to earth about his wants and needs and despite being the underdog is determined to live a good life. There's Kuja who is immensely arrogant, yet finds that he literally has a tiny lifespan compared to most of his subjects, so he went from feeling invincible god of two worlds; to realizing his father had intentionally gimped him to serve as a weapon of mass destruction just to burn out with most of disk 4 being his complete breakdown. Then there's Iviv who is none of those things, yet through positive role models and his own faith ultimately decides to live a short and virtuous life and I would argue is *the* protagonist who makes everyone around him better, despite his doubts. The theme of death and rememberance even affects the Princess and Echo; who both have different ways of coping with their heritage. Necron, the personification of nothingness that follows death itself, doesn't give a shit about any of that. It will come for you whether you want it or not and while it isn't an antagonist, it has been the driving force of several character arcs up to that point, manifesting itself as a wicked construct. The heroes reject death's influence on their life and they live on for however long they can; Iviv doesn't even live long enough to see Zayne return, yet they don't let it stop them. Personally, I love it; what is FF without its relentlessly epic boss battles and last-minute plot twists? Furthermore, I like that Kuja was able to succeed in his plan of mutual self-destruction; yet he completely failed and was ultimately forced to yield, wishing in his last moments that he had led a better life. Please, don't take life for granted and look for the parts of life that give you joy. It doesn't have to matter; as long as it matters to you and your loved ones, life has meaning. Sorry, a bit of a wall. Personally FF9 really was a large part of my childhood and I still smile at it's whimsical art style when up to that point I had just been fragging and killing stuff. XD
