What is FFXIV: Shadowbringers? Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers is the third expansion for Final Fantasy XIV. It was announced in November 2018, and was released on July 2, 2019. The expansion takes players to the First, one of thirteen reflections of the Source that is being consumed by a Flood of Light. The main region visited is known as Norvrandt, which is roughly analogous to the Source's Eorzea, and is the only region in the world that has not yet succumbed to the Flood of Light.

Gunbreaker is super awesome. It's not my main (Warrior for Life) but damnit, I'm hooked and I'm really enjoying it a lot. A special call out for Heart of Stone's short cooldown. I try and use this on any boss cast I can, not just a tank buster. If you are off tank it's also great to cast on the main tank after every time you get your Brutal Shell. The healers and the MT will probably not understand why they are doing so well, but at least you'll know your contributing more than just DPS as OT.

Gunbreaker has been a great introduction to tanking for me. To the point I strongly consider giving Paladin a try. Or, dare I say, Warrior. But learning how to optimize my rotation has been a necessity, and this is very helpful. Thank you!

Fun fact: Superbolide actually pairs surprisingly well with WHM's own "oh shit" button, Benediction. Instantly back to full HP *and* with the 8-second invulnerability still in play.

I think you have it backwards. After a white mages uses benediction on you, you're supposed to use Superbolide to erase all the healing they just did. #JustKidding

I've been maining GNB since day 1 and I love it. I prefer PLD > DRK > WAR because I like a faster paced tanking rotation vs raw damage of a warrior. To me, gunbreaker brings a faster rotation with a lot of raw damage. I think it needs a slight buff either defensive, offensive, or utility-wise to really stand out. Right now it just seems like a safe middle ground class that's the most fun to play. I've cleared all of the content so far with no issues. I feel like I can tank all the EX fights just as strong as any other tank class and dish out impressive damage at the same time. I just wish there was stronger self-healing or a buff to superbolide like only halfing the HP or reduce the CD even further.

Yah this is basically how I feel about it. The developers did a great job with the class but it could benefit from a slight push in either offense, defense, sustain or support.

Theory crafting here, but I think it'd be super fun to have the gunlance from Monster Hunter as a tank job. Also a job where you wield a massive mace/morning star tank job that deals loads of damage but the overall gcd is slower than other tanks to balance the damage output out ya know?

This is just my opinion on the no mercy phase but I think it adds up. I always do no mercy before a combo finisher, from there I'll finish the combo or use burst strike. Then bow shock or blasting zone, then sonic break, then the oGCD I didn't use, finally I can use gnashing fang or alternatively a combo finisher or burst strike into a gap closer THEN gnashing fang. All the oGCDs line up nicely without double weaving then. Bit different on the opener though.

Never realised how good its utility is. It may be lacking a little bit with defensive abilities like DRK and PLD, but it offers a good variety of support skills to offset that, I like to imagine. Will definitely be giving GNB a go.

I leveled my DRK first and then just got my GB to 80 a couple of days ago. Honestly, I'm a DRK for life, HOWEVERRRRRR... GB is awesome. I've tanked all classes and love them all but damn I'm not impressed with DRK atm. Less CDs really hurts. But GB although nothing instant like a play or war is fine by me since I never had any instant heals when I was maining drk anyways so I'm used to it. Just love how fluid it is. I say its the illegitimate child of paly and drk. But that's just me. I'm interested in seeing a guide on drk from you soon. Keep up the great work!

I usually main my White Mage but I wanted to go right to Gun Breaker because Squall is one of my favorite characters and who wouldn't want a gunblade. While I'm new to tanking and still learning how to properly do interrupts I'm having a blast playing Gun Breaker, and it's more then likely gonna be my new main job from now on.

New to the game, planned on leveling a Warrior to 80 and checked out the Gunbreaker job quest as a whim at 60. Feels like the closest we'll get to a dodge/parry tank in FFXIV at least as far as class fantasy goes.

I'm maining GNB this expansion. I started out just trying it, getting my bearings and now it's my first 80 after a gigantic marathon leveling session during early access. It's so much fun, it feels like a fast and stylish hybrid and its wonderful! It also does the most damage out of any other tank ST, which is kind of cool. A warrior will trounce you in AoE during dungeon pulls but you're not doing half bad with specific combos of aoe abilities. (no mercy > bow shock > 2 stored power gauge charges on fated circle > bloodfest > 2 more fated circles is VERY strong aoe damage) it just feels so good to play, I haven't bothered to level any other tanks so far!

GNB is a good tank. Great video. They have a few DRK skills that were reused for this job specifically. Superbolide is literally living dead and camouflage is pretty much HW Reprisal.

From whaty I've read, it seems the general consensus is Direct Hit is the best, also from what I've read be careful with Skill Speed because I think it has messed up the flow of some people's combos, would have to do more research to confirm both points.

So question. Gunbreaker CD camouflage reduces damage taken by 10%. Reprisal reduces the enemy's damage output by 10%. Out of the two, which has the greater effect to reducing damage? And what factors affect it?

late reply but in this case reprisal will have greater effect to reduce dmg because its pure -10% dmg from enemy dmg stat, while camouflage which redu dmg taken 10% will take effect after defensive stat counted, example your char def is xxx and enemy attack xx the enemy attack will be reduced by your def and then camouflage will take effect so its reducing dmg taken that already reduced by defense, while reprisal is pure -10% dmg of the enemy that will be reduced greatly when your def is high

I joint in 2.0 and Mained whmg all the way to 3.0 when I went to monk black mage, I gave dark a chance with it being my reintroduction into tanking but just couldn’t get the mo gauge down and kept killing the group. Now I’m 5.0 I’m a gun breaker main. May be it’s because they smoothed out tanking so nicely but I REALLY enjoy gun-breaker.

Thanks m8. Set keyboard turn speed to 0 then lock on target. Camera turn speed is in Character Settings > General & at the bottom. For "lock camera to target" its in keybinds under movement. During normal gameplay I don't use the slow turn speed for the camera but it makes the intro's look pretty.

I think it's worth noting that GnB is more about forethought vs. reaction. You did touch on this a bit. It's very good at keeping incoming damage very consistent and predictable through good cd management. A 25 second cooldown 15% dr doesnt seem great on it's own, but it's ability to stack freely on low cooldown with any of your other defensive tools can't really be overstated. In times of need, you can run near 40-50% mitigation without having to overlap and waste several long cooldowns. I think the main rip combo could use some potency love, (And possibly the mitigation/heal on brutal shell) but we are also working with relatively low gear at the start. At higher values of crit/spell speed/dir, the ogcd combo could turn out to be a monster even at current values.

I've been waiting for an overview with thoughts for GNB. This was very well done and provides ample explanation coupled with a superb breakdown. I don't want to take too many liberties in critiquing others' work, but if you will allow me a moment of constructive criticism. I adore the idea of giving stars to certain categories within the job's role. It reminds me of a fighting game which is awesome. But when on mobile the choice of yellow against white makes it hard to discern. Maybe a nice blue or red would work better? Of course, this depends upon what color backdrop you have behind it. Again, please do not take it personally. I'm loving that style of presentation. It's very professionally done and gives your video plenty of style points. Keep up the great work!

Once you get 70 it feels quicker because of continuation but I can't say definitively how much skill speed will benefit. My guess is: it won't be ideal but it could be fun. If you've got materia to burn then go for it.

@@iBluairJgR The current SKS sweet spot seems to be around 1300 according to min/maxers and theorycrafters on multiple forums/the balance. If gives just enough speed for a DPS increase without causing clipping.

I find my main annoyance with GNB is doing your AoE Rotation removes a consistent heal/Dmg mitigation from Brutal Shell which means you actually become even squishier in an AoE situation. Otherwise I love the class.

I recently started playing and started out as a Warrior which I found kinda clunky, then I switched over to Dark Knight at 50 and really enjoyed it. Great visuals, sound and the MP management feels good. Now at 60 I've unlocked gunbreaker and I am not sure what to make of it. Feels more well rounded defensively but the rotation is kinda of weird to me and from what I've seen there is no MP management like PLD/DRK?

Gunbreaker has no MP management, you are correct. It also feels a bit dull before level 70. The continuation ability makes the combat feel a lot more exciting (In my opinion, obviously).

Heart of Light is a bit more situational since it only blocks magic damage so you can get away with not having it on your hot bar. That said, it's still valuable and you should try to find space for it ;p. Put it in a macro with some other skills.

Any chance you could explain your keybinding setup? Are you left handed?

I'm not left handed but I use the mouse with my left hand (been that way since my first computer when I was a little kid). I use the number pad for movement and a few actions, the directional arrows (up, down, left, right) are for he main combo and I put actions that I don't use much on Insert, Home, Page Up etc. It's a bit wonky but its comfortable for me. It's a bit tricky to use this setup in games that have a lot of buttons but macros help.

I Just love gunbreaker, but the super bolide abillity is really hard to use, since when i get reduced to 1 hp, it gives a healer unneccesary stress

Rofl yeah. Just use it if you think you're going to die and the healer doesn't have benediction. If you're at, lets say, 10k health and you activate Superbolide, the healer was already stressed and you're now giving them 8-seconds to recover.

Just to point out that No Mercy does not in fact align all that well with all abilities, Gnashing Fang and Sonic Break's cooldowns are influenced by skill speed and thus are actually shorter than what their tooltips say and will gradually off sync themselves from No Mercy, forcing you to voluntarily delay them every now and then by a gcd to get the most out of it.

True-ish. The cooldown reduction you get from skill speed takes A LOT of skill speed to feel noticeable. If you're stacking skill speed to 2000+ then yeah, I agree.

@@iBluairJgR Well, from what I read from the guys over at the Balance's calculations, even with the base stats that you get from the AF gear you already need to delay GF every 2 uses and Sonic Break every use by a gcd for maximum efficiency. Now ofc if you don't care about efficiency this doesn't really concern you (plus it requires you to already never make any error of judgement of when to save your cartridge or time your ogcd) but given the power creep that has been a thing since the start of this game, I could see it becoming more noticable around the end of the patch cycle.

From playing, there aren't any skills that *need* to be macroed but if you're trying to save space, you can stack Rampart with Nebula in a macro. You can also do that with Heart of Stone & Camouflage.

only macro is for casting buff to other party member. Has hotbar, leftside is combo finisher on button, and booster on arrow. Right side button are normal combo at top is rush (Y). Arrow side is gobalcooldown skill. second bar (LT+RT) left button are for tank buff, arrow is aurora and reprisal. RT+LT it is AOE rotation.

As a healer main, gun breaker is a medicore tank but good dps. Camouflage is awful why reduce parry effectiveness but give gun a parry cd. Super bolide don't even get me started there. Adorable voice again :)

I just started the game, I'm a dude and I made a hyur highlander girl because I didn't like the male walk cycle, and the highlander girls look a bit more alpha in posture and animations. I rolled a male highlander and he looks cool but I'm starting to miss my girl so I'm thinking about ditching him. I see people groaning on social media and the sub Reddit about how they "sigh when they see a gnb" because they "know" the run is just going to be harder. But not once has a dungeon gone South for me because we had a gnb, their damage intake feels so much smoother than most other tanks I've seen.

Yeah. People severely overstate the shortcomings of the class. There are downsides and differences between them for sure (the main one being the gunbreakers lack of burst healing), but if you have more brain cells than a potato, then Gunbreaker will serve you incredibly well.

Now I have no doubts there are shortcomings. As someone attempting to main GNB I can say confidently that camoflage really doesn't work well, especially considering they nerfed block and parry. And superbolide is just plain weird and does not synergize well with random healers. But the kit is still remarkably well rounded and the foundation is solid and feels so good, just needs some minor tweaks.

A part of me hopes they never change superbolide so I can troll my friends with it forever but the 1-hp thing is certainly a gimmick. The invulnerability is really nice though-makes for a good "oh sh*t" button if you time it right. I won't be mad if they change it but I'll be okay if they keep it as is. *fingers crossed*

As a dark souls player, I'd like to see BIG shields in the game, not those puny things that the paladin uses. Tower shields baby! Heck, make a tank that two hands a shield and I'd play that beast all day long.
