Not too sure why I started being recommended these vids but I’m actually rather impressed. There are some interesting and yes obvious points that are made throughout the video that while they should seem commonplace are often times ignored or not so common. A major thing in dungeons and raids that I see or rather DONT see is classes not using their utility. Feint and addle are two highly overlooked abilities outside of savage raiding which is free mitigation on party wide/tank specific dmg. Many bards and mch for one reason or another do not use taciturn/other ability which is a free dmg reduction at no cost to them. Many abilities in the game are completely overlooked by the player base because it seems to no benefit to them I still see ninjas miss trick because of a turned boss which should NEVER happened with the true north buff. A lot of stuff as you said is about reading up on tool tips and the such but a lot of ppl simply want to brute force their way through content and they don’t truly LEARN the class or content. The sad part about this is a lot of these ppl are “mentors” in the game but they barely know their own class let alone another’s. Playing and learning a class are two different things and ppl don’t seem to quite understand that.

Yah I'm loving it. The removal of TP has made physical DPS so much more enjoyable during dungeon pulls.
@GeekInBelgium5 жыл бұрын
I have to object, I used to main bard, but it felt really boring with all those skills we lost. You can have fun with normal packs since it's easy to get your dots on all monsters and especially keeping track of them, but with larger packs and solo bosses, it became pretty pointless. The procs are pretty rare even with a set that focuses on crit, except with 3 to 4 targets. It really became dull to play compared to the dancer and the machinist, maybe I'm missing something but the bard has been butchered beyond repair.
@F34RDSoldier8055 жыл бұрын
@@GeekInBelgium i understand that part considering bard (which i mained in Stormblood) was support in which greatly helped others regen TP and MP, so with the removal of TP Bard lost all TP regen skills which about 1/4 of the skills. BUT with TP gone you can more consistently deal dmg nonstop without there being a wall (running out of TP) in the middle of dealing a ton of dmg. Before i would run out of TP and just stood there waiting for it to regen so i can deal dmg again, only to run out again. It was an unnecessary wall. Now i can pop of all my skills seeing constant big numbers with no down time or worrying about TP while watching my cooldowns, the boss, its mechanics, ect all at once. In the new expansion there are a couple of heavy DPS checks that would be impossible with TP still there, considering the checks are near the end of a long fight. IMO the removal of TP was one of the best changes to the game, making dps more faster, smother, more viable in crucial situations and more fun overall. Only downside is of course Bard losing some value as a support.
@F34RDSoldier8055 жыл бұрын
@@GeekInBelgium Also ironically i dropped bard after the changes, leveled Dancer to 80 and im now working on Machinist lol. But think about it this way. If there is anything that needs fixing between the classes they will fix it. I feel Bard will get a rework like the Machinist in the future considering how much it was affected by the changes same with Astro. Theyre not the best now but they will be viable again in the future just wait another 2 years...

Yes, as a Black Mage/White Mage main, do not stand thousands of malms away in the south side of Wakanda just cuz you're ranged, stay in close, it's much easier to live and do your rotation if you're in range of the healer and sometimes tank, and the healer can add DPS if they don't have to worry about running out(or wasting time using rescue first) to save you.

@0ddMonk3y Yes, point blank AOE's exist but they aren't the radius of a continent. You can generally stay a couple of steps away from a boss's hitbox cursor and be positioned properly to avoid most point blank attacks. A good thing to know if you don't play the healer classes yourself is that the AoE heals have shorter range than other spells in the game. Played summoner for a while and didn't pay much attention to the distance to party members more than for stacking up, figured it better to stay away so that the AoEs that targets someone would be far away from everyone else and vice versa when others got targeted).. then i played Astrologian for a while and that's when i noticed that healers AoE heals in this game actully has smaller range than other spells (Came from Wow and where all healing spells, including AoE tend to have the largest ranges) so from then on i stuck a bit closer to the healers.

And yes, I know there is other utility aside from group dps boosts, but those are usually at most useful for early stages of prog.

1:46 disagree. More difficult than ranged as a class, sure, but casters have a massive amount of thought that has to go into positioning and properly managing casts through slidecasting and whatnot. And it isn't a one size fits all, Machinist is absolutely more difficult to play than Samurai, there's a learning curve for every job, and I think this is really misleading to newer players who don't know better.

I'll be honest in saying. Despite me giving dps no credit, because I mained heals since 2.0 and now I main tanks in 5.0. Their job is pretty tough, especially melee. I tried MNK and I couldn't get used to the positional at all. In fact it drove me nuts so I went back to healing. I guess I can say good job to all those good dpsers out there. But poor dps is still poor dps and they will still make me angry.

I have to disagree that position bonuses make a melee fighter inherently more difficult than a caster or ranged fighter. I've been all three types in raid and out, and caster relies on good positioning just as much as melee fighters. Ranged physical has to manage oGCDs as much or more than most of the other jobs in the game, and remembering how to do everything optimally while also not screwing up mechanics is no mean feat. I main SMN, and I work as hard as any other dps player in my group.
@iBluairJgR5 жыл бұрын
Right, but the rotation for casters and ranged DPS doesn't require you to hit the enemy in a specific spot to do max dps. I'm not trying to imply that ranged dps don't work hard.
@TransientWitch5 жыл бұрын
@@iBluairJgR I guess I want to clarify what I mean, as I was just responding to the comment that melee jobs are harder than ranged because of positional bonuses. I don't mean to say being caster or ranged physical is harder than melee, since my experience has taught me that the level of difficulty to play any dps job optimally is fairly equal. With some exceptions, of course, but the way dps jobs are distinct from each other has let the game make them all difficult in their own way.

As a summoner main, summoner and machinist are the outliers. The other two magic dps and physical ranged dps are easier than melee dps.

Pretty nice basic video. I like how you brought up aoe... you'd be surprised how many times tanks pull big mobs... and dps...just...use ... single target... Its insane. On a side note...I'm not trying to recommend illegal 3rd party software but... dead serious. You'll never know how good or bad of a dps you are until you get ACT. Could you use stone, sea, and sky calculator to determine your dps? Yes you could. But comparing yourself to other people who know what they're doing goes a long way on how you could play better. Theres nothing more embarassing then you losing to a tank in DPS cause you don't know what you're doing.

True facts about ACT. I don't talk about it much but I use it on striking dummies when I'm figuring out rotations / learning a job.

as a Melee DD Main (all of them with the preference of Dragoon), and Secondary "main" Healer (if need be), here is one more very important thing for you Damage Dealers, especialy the "special breed" ones who come from -this other game-: Do not talk to your healer! Never! Seriously, whatever happens, do not talk to the healer. You have nothing.. NOTHING... to say to the healer. Never! Shut your mouth, do your job and do it good, and you will never feel the need to insult healers or tanks. If you still feel the urge to speak up, take a breath and re-watch this video! Thank you ;-)

Probably because there are a lot of people who are new to the game and skip with a booster cause they just want to get to the end game. This isn't bad, however it leads to a lot of new players not actually learning very basic things like what an aoe even looks like and learning to approach certain enemies with certain tactics. And behold, level 80 players wiping to basic mechanics.

I don't agree with saying melee are inherently harder than ranged classes because of positionals. Every kind of dps has extra things that are specific to their role that they have to learn. Casters are generally turrets so they have to learn how to avoid having to move (which includes having a knowledge of mechanics of all fights way more intricate than most melees bother with), how to slidecast, and so on. While physical ranged don't suffer from the same problem, their rotations are usually so super proc-based that it's a surprisingly big challenge for many people to stop constantly staring at their hotbars waiting for procs (and then dying to stuff because they weren't looking at what's going on). Melees don't have either of those problems, instead they have to learn how to always stay in melee range and hit enemies from the correct side, as you have mentioned. Which of these seems the most up your alley differs for everyone and may affect what role you favour, but saying one is harder than the others is not really correct in my opinion. What gives you trouble may come very easily to someone else and vice versa.

Personally I like to do single target damage in large pulls, cause sometimes, healers can struggle with mana efficiency now, so the faster I kill the enemy, the less damage the tank takes, and the less chance of a disaster happening because of AOE greed.
@youbet20115 жыл бұрын
that is flawed logic.
@milat92875 жыл бұрын
I don't see doing AOE damage that wont kill the enemy in time, causing the tank to die, when the medic inevitably caves in, to be of any sounder logic.
