FFXIV Housing 101: Apartments vs Free Company Chambers

If you're looking for your first in game home, but want to know more about your options, let's take a deeper look at Apartments VS FC Chambers. They are exactly the same size, and can hold the same things, but they are not the same! Which one is best for you? I'll give you the details in this video.

You can actually have two shared estates, so five total places to teleport to and decorate if you know that many people with houses and they trust you and set you as tenants!

I used to have a private chamber in the FC house, but then when they first introduced the lottery system, I bid on a small house right next to the FC house and won. I hadn't bothered trying to get my own place before that because I didn't wanna mess with the old "Camp out by the plot and click on the sign all day for a chance to win it" system

Congrats! I can't blame you for that. I spent a total of 18 hours camping for an FC house for my friends and I regret every minute of it. 😵

1:50 and be aware, the res caretaker will not store the contents for your apartment forever. You have 35 days, and then all the private chambers (FC apartment stuff) is gone. Also note that a FC estate with aethernet shard already lets you teleport to it. So having a FC and FC private chamber is the same teleport, but an apartment in the lovely Lavender Beds and an FC House in Kugane can save a lot of gil in teleporting (whereas a private chamber provides no further benefit). The apartments are a vastly better option imo, the lobby is useful, the exterior has what you need minus a large crop plot for crossbreeding plants and mail box (which an estate can have), and Apartments are forever. Nothing about an FC accident, or FC drama, or your subscription or your available time to play can change your apartment. I recently finished decorating my apartment (im a returner from T13 days) and now its so nice I feel like I could be a contender in a contest.

I do like that FC rooms are cheaper than apartments, but I personally prefer the apartment. Never know if something can end up happening with the FC. Whilst I do understand the reasoning why if you haven’t gone to your house in so many real time days then you lose it, that has still nudged me away from buying a house lol-something can come up irl that prevents you from coming online for quite a bit, or if you need to take a long break from the game / there’s another game you want to invest quite a bit of time in. Apartments are forever, and with there being glitching involved to decorate it in certain ways, I do prefer apartments so that I wouldn’t need to redo all that work, or even lose certain decorations. In the long run, apartments are worth the additional 200k cost to the FC room to me, and is essentially a safety net.

You're absolutely right! 💜For the first 4 or 5 years I played I didn't have a house - it was too much gil and I tended to take 3-4 month absences from the game whenever a new game came out that I really wanted to play. Apartments are the way to go for most casual players, for sure.

I have an GC apartment and an FC house. I pick the apartment in Ishgard ans the FC is in Kugane so i can cross map on the cheap. Plus the Market board, bell and stables for the Ishgard apartments are super convenient.

I have played this game on and off for over 4 years and I never got into housing because I always heard it's so expensive, hard to get and you have to play all the time for it not to vanish. Well, I had no idea apartments where a thing (I mean, I always thought those inn rooms are those apartments people were refering to...). So I want to thank you very much, finally I will do real content ... After 4 years. My god, how stupid am I xDDDD

In your defense, the game doesn't do a good job at all of explaining apartments - so I definitely can't blame you or anyone for not knowing! 💜 But I'm super happy you now feel confident enough to buy a room and decorate a space of your own in game after all this time.

My WoL doesn't have anything in that regard. While I joined an FC a few days ago, I didn't even enter their house yet. I don't think I'll leave anytime soon, but I want to get to know them a bit better before becoming too invested in it and while 300k is not much, I want to make sure it's money well spent before I make that decision. Never looked into getting an apartment and didn't buy a house so far.

okay for...free company apartment, my Free company is allied with grand company maelstrom, but do i have to also ally with maelstrom to be able to use the Free company apartment? Cause the immortal flame grand company is more intriguing a bit for me

Nope! You don't have to be aligned with the same GC as your FC in order to buy and use a private chamber! 💜 This is because people can switch Grand Companies. So be with whoever you want!

@@gamer_debbie oh crap i just remembered, i need to be second lieutenant to get a housing, im already a maelstorm, but if i switch to immortal flame, my rank resets to third private again, my apartment i already bought wont disappear in my FC right?

@@TaliZVasTyria That's right! They don't take your apartment away when you switch grand companies! The only thing you lose access to is your Squadrons (you need to reach the appropriate level again to command them).

I'm sorry!💜 That just made me think that it would be nice to save furniture configurations - so that you can use rooms for multiple purposes, or save holiday/celebratory decors for special events. Or instead of having to redo something you love to try something else, it could be as easy as a button press. It would be glam plates for houses! I hope it might be reality one day.

I have found Final Fantasy players not helpful, and this video, not helpful, you did not explain how to get an apartment what npc do you talk to where do you go for the grand company,that kind of information should be included to guide. neither did you explain the fc the only thing you explained is terms and conditions, never go to a Final Fantasy player or KZbinr for help No good telling people go to a city that is not helpful, where do you go in that city? Who do you talk to in that city, that sort of thing should be included in your guide? I'm in the city no houses, so where do you go 🙄

The problem with FFXIV is there is a lot of information to give, and it's time consuming and complicated to deliver it all at once! 🙄Anyone who makes a video/tutorial/information guide that doesn't answer your particular questions aren't "unhelpful people. They just didn't answer your particular question (there are lots of people so what might be helpful to you isn't helpful to others, vice versa.). If you want to ask, you just ask.
