I'm fairly sure they explicitly say that all physical things are comprised of aether. The substance Ceruleum is made of aether, and so is the machine itself.

YUP! Everything is made of aether on some level. Magic is raw aether being used in "un-natural" ways and Magitek is technology the simulates magic. Crazy eh?

Wait if it does not use magic it's not magi-tech, it's just technology. Always assumed they where using Aether via some workaround. Is it Magitech beceause it can accomplish things that normally can only be accomplished with magic. If no magic is inolved how are they doing things with their tech we havent learned to do yet? Remnants of Allegan knowledge?

It's not written down, but I assume ceruleum powered magitek is called such as it's considered technology that acts as a replacement for magic. But honestly, since all this are made of aether, and ceruleum is the fuel, technically aether is still a fuel source for their technology. Same as magic.

@@SynodicScribe As god an explanation as any. I prefer it that ways anyways, as I generally dislike Magi-Tech as an idea. Something about magic being mass produced has always bothered me, makes it seem less, well, magical. Though I do like some interpretations that avoid going to the point where magic becomes little more than fancy electricity.

I'd like to see your sources because there are a lot of things in-game that directly oppose your thesis of magitek using "no aether." Omega, Alexander, the Crystal Tower, the Tycoon, etc. all explicitly use aether in their function, and in Alexander's case, he uses an *apocalyptic* amount of aether to function. Magitek may rely mostly on the laws of physics for its function, but there are gaps in the technology used that are filled in using aether, usually as an energy source. I like your videos as a rule, but this one kind of missed the mark within the first couple of minutes.

Omega is a construct from another planet, not magitek. Alexander is a Primal made of Aether, and by extension so are all the devices inside him, also not magitek. And the Crystal Tower is just that, mostly a Crystal battery. Only parts of the tower could be considered Magitek, but not the entire thing. It wouldn't make sense for a country like Garlemald to shame primal summoning if their devices drained Aether like primals do. My only sources are in game data as well as official publications from Square Enix.

@@SynodicScribe I only bring it up because I just did the Syrcus Tower questline and they pretty explicitly link magitek and aether. Without aether, magitek is just... well, just *tek,* and we can't use that or else we'll get sued by Shatner.

@@ahorseofcourse7283 My friend this was a video on "Modern" magitek in the last hundred years. A video on The Complete History of Magitek will take a lot more time and research to fully flesh out.

@@ahorseofcourse7283 the crystal tower part was answered indirectly in the video. The tower is an Allagan device so it was technology and magic in harmony. Its main purpose was to funnel the energy of the sun through Dalamud in order to manipulate said energy. Modern Magitek is not in that position yet.

@@SynodicScribe Thank you for this video! I do have a question: will this Complete History of Magitek include the kind of magitek that Goldsmiths are seemingly using? Example being complex Mammets like the Goldsmith NPC.

Can you explain how Solus was born in 1489, when Emet-Selch was much older than that? Was he reborn as a baby or something? They are the same person, correct?

Basically what happened to Thancred as far as I know.

Further information from EW seems to imply Emet-Selch possessed Solus during his teen years. Perhaps 15 or 16. And then used the body as a vessel until physical death.
