One of the most heartwrenching origin stories. I have nothing but a deep, genuine respect for the Tonberries of FF14. Poor souls.

You know, I really can't blame them for letting themselves have that bit of revenge. Poor fellows have truly been through it, haven't they?

Going through the scholar questline and then learning about all that happened in the magi war makes this dungeon hit so hard whenever it pops up. Thank you for covering its story
@mikoto76932 жыл бұрын
I agree with that as I went through the first parts of the Scholar storyline. I have particularly strong memories of the battle with that voidsent as I failed twice and looked up what needed to be done to win that fight. This was easier said than done because much of the information online was about a much older version of Scholar that the Devs must have changed at some point. But I was still able to glean enough to understand I needed to regularly cast Esuna on the allied npcs. That was particularly challenging for the PS4 controls and I lost twice more before getting the balance right. But I also remember it strongly because we were fighting for Eorzea because if we failed the Green Death would spread and bring down not only Limsa Lominsa but potentially far beyond. I admit that I have a certain pride that my WoL has rediscovered the ways of the Scholar. In doing so, the memory and legacy of Nym lives on. I headcanon that she’s been teaching the resdiscovered arts of Scholars and Summoners to a small group of apprentices starting with two of her retainers. Ah but there is so much to FF14 to discover and enjoy. I look forward to the years of content that I still have to discover and enjoy. I’m only part of the way through Stormblood and apparently I have much to look forward to with Shadowbringers and Endwalker beyond that.

I am always horrified and adore the tonberries during the Wanderer's Palace (Hard) ending cutscene. If i were the WoL, i would literally scream "SIC EM!"

Tonberries are some of the most iconic Final Fantasy monsters, and they get great lore in this game.

The ending of the Wanderer's Palace (Hard) will always be so iconic. Just seeing all of those Tonberrys rushing up to the boss and just stabbing the living hell out of him is just so funny and a bit scary. It's cool to see what FFXIV's twist on these beloved creatures are. Cool stuff.

Your know, I wish we got some follow-up on the Tonberry cure during endwalker.
@SynodicScribe2 жыл бұрын
The Scholar Quest did successfully cure one of the Tonberries, so it's implied that all of them could be saved from the voidsent's curse given time. At least that's something. haha

As someone who mains Scholar and Summoner I particularly enjoyed this video so much. I admit to a sense of pride knowing that my WoL keeps the legacy of Nym alive by taking up the rediscovered arts of the Nymian Scholars. But also Summoner since I use that job while soloing, except that seems to be rediscovering an ancient Allagan practice. Of course I headcanon that my WoL is teaching these rediscovered jobs to a small group of apprentices, starting with two of her retainers. So thank you once again for the entertaining lore video Synodic Scribe.

Let’s goooooo! Damn, can’t imagine seething for 1500 years like that, let alone watching a slow and gross transformation from basic Lalafells to something so drastic and bizarre as a Tonberry. We need them as beast tribes. Also, thank you for this scene! 11:12 I would always remove the cutscene skip here when it came up in roulette back in ARR-HW. Best ending, don’t mess with twisted Lalafells
@rachelkelley59302 жыл бұрын
Yep, that scene is hilarious! 😂 Edit: just adding that now I turn on cutscenes when it comes up in roulette as well and recommend others do the same even though it makes things take longer.

I sooooo look forward to each of your vids. Like an early Xmas present. Thank you sooooo much for your continued endeavors. Would love to see you eventually branch out into covering some of the more obscure side quests that have Lore Stories. And I just finished the Stormblood 8 man Raids, and cried for hours! Really want to hear your take on that little side story. Anyways, keep the Lore alive

Tell me, what's a side story or obscure bit of lore you think needs more love? I'll add it to the pipe line if it's juicy enough.

Hmm...having the Tonberries cured opens up an interesting political quandry for the Admiralty, as basically a new city state has popped up inside her borders. How are they going to address the Nymians, I wonder? Also ACUAL SCHOLARS OF NYM! I'm gonna get a proposal together so we can get one of them to do a series of lectures at the Studium!

now that you mention it, i'm kinda surprised we don't see one at the Studium, or at least SOME ONE from Sharlyan around Bronze Lake.

Knowing what we know now about the nature of voidsent and the unrest caused by an overabundance of dark aether, it's less weird to think of them surviving 1500+ years trapped in there as monsters.

Nice video. It will be interesting to dive under the nearby waters to look for clues. 🙂 Btw, wouldn't it make more sense if the plague actually drained the aether of the infected and turning them into voidsents? This would explain their weakness to strong emotion (like endwalker story plot), and explain why the Tonberry King dissipates into purple aether like a voidsent.
@SynodicScribe2 жыл бұрын
That was a theory until the Scholar quest cleansed one of the Tonberries and turned them back into a Lalafell. Since Voidsent can't be turned back once transformed, Tonberries can't be classified as voidsent.

Random question- Do fantasia potions exist in Eorzia, or are they strictly a game feature? Wondering if they actually had lore behind them. Want to use one, but it bugs me if I can't come up with a head cannon for it lol

They work, but not in the way that they do for gameplay reasons. They're more akin to an energy drink or antidepressant than the gender fluid that some people have an addiction to.
