This revelation has taken something of a backseat given that we learned of the 13 shards in the very same patch, but the potential impact it could have on the world of FFXIV is no less significant!

I just finished up the Hildibrand story quests for Heavensward the other day and it should be mentioned that at the end of the quests it's revealed that Gigi/Vivi does not actually possess time magic (He can just change things to what he envisions they should be).

I really like the idea behind this though since the recent interview with Yoshi-P we know, that all of this couldnt really start until 7.0. In the interview he mentioned, that we will still be dealing with the Garleans until 6.0, if I am not mistaken. As for time magics, I could see them adding stuff related to that to Astrologian.

The level of foresight from Ethys here is pretty impressive. Not every theory has come to fruition but more than a few have. A Time Mage job feels redundant considering they've already lumped the time theme into AST, so we'll probably see them getting more and more classical Time Mage spells as the game goes on. It wouldn't really be the first time they've given a classic job an original facelift either, since FFXI's attempt at making a Machinist ended up becoming Puppetmaster.

Striped Shirt that's what I was thinking. Astrologian seems like a bastardized or extremely light time mage. Gravity and light speed and the ability to speed up atttacks/abilities with the cards. It even has disable which is kinda like that tactics move.

AST does not use Time magic, it's celestial magic. Gravity and other "time magic" are just names, thay have nothing with real time manipulation (Ultimecia beigns). And there's nothing saying that only one job is able to use time magic. Arcane magic is usable by SCH and SMN, White magic by WHM, RDM... Not mentioning that classes shared these magic in HW and ARR.

Leo Lupinos it's actually called Astromancy, but same concept. And the same can be said for AST and time mage. With their current toolkit and lore, there just isn't a way to bring in a job labeled time mage without abilities and concepts overlapping. Alexander isn't the only one capable of stopping time. The main antagonist in the AST 50-60 quests can also do it (though a much lesser extent) using an ability you eventually learn yourself. He is also an AST. Also, an AST ability to increase durations on their buffs according to lore is tied to time manipulation. They increase the duration by slowing down the passage of time for the ability they use. At least that is the impression I got from the quests, and I literally just got my AST to 60 a few days ago.

If we do time travel, I specifically want to see us follow someone back in time as they try to alter the events of 1.0 so that we can re-experience 1.0 while at the same time doing something new, e.g. preserving the timeline, maybe even resisting the temptation to try to stop the Calamity from happening ourselves.

There's something in that Alexander quest that i've wondered about since i did it. At one point he mentions that Alexander couldn't see past a certain point in time. Pretty interesting that, what could happen that every simulation run just stopped at that point?

When first playing through FFXIV, I had a very strong feeling that Alphinaud and Alisaie were time travelers. They were with the MC in the cart ride and their garb had clocks on them signifying time. The way that they were at the 3 cities the same time the MC was during the 3 cities' "rallying speeches" (Lv30 quest) and their back-and-forth banter involving time puns really had me thinking. Not sure if that has any significance or I'm just reading too in to it.

The Echo. See Cid's Goggles. But 1.0 players may remember things like the Balloon Fish / Parade Flower / Treant Vine that we carried through time during the first few quests, how we interacted with Minfilia to prove ourselves to her upon arrival at the waking sands, or even the battles we fought to protect Ascilia (Minfilia), Khrimm (the Hermit of the wood), or Emerick (Blackburn). And then there's the case of the missing firearm that we loaned from the guild in the present which Stahlmann confiscated from us in the past. Since 2.0 we've barely scratched the surface.

Also was wondering; now that we’ll soon cure the first of its ether/ light apocalypse and by extension the source of its ether crisis, do you think ether-heavy jobs such as time traveling will be available in the near future? Given the implication that Darkness provides a means for constant unrestricted ether consumption and our budding relations with the ascians and their connection to the Allagan empire, could we see the warrior of light travel to different points in time as we try and make our way to the original breaking point of the 14 and the Allac civilization with the help of the Ascians I order to avert the summoning of Hydelin and the fracturing of the crystal? Is that our stories end-game? Id appreciate your thoughts on this!

Don't forget other instances of Time magic in the form of Louisoux at the battle of carteneu and it is regularly referenced during the Astrologian job quests. And that Althyk the Keeper, god of space and time exists as an entity, we already know that the twelve genuinely have the powers that are attributed to them.

I do like the idea of visiting past eras, (I'd love to meet the Ampadori) but I don't think villains can readily exploit time travel the same way Alexander could. If they could, I would think the Immortal Ascians would already have jumped at the chance.

We do sort of already have the foundations set for something like the WoL travailing back to past events in order to assist in some way through the Echo. I'm thinking of is doing something similarly to what is done in World of Final Fantasy via the Girl Who Forgot Her Name but on a grander scale as the WoL has the power look back into the past which would likely mean there is some form off connection there, be it only able to send information ................atm. Personaly I would love to travel back in time via the Echo in order to fight a trial during the War of the Magi.

I hated the Caverns of Time because it felt cheap, putting you there in key Warcraft lore moments for no real reason beyond fanservice. But if they did it here in FF14, they could make it work because it wouldn't have that fanservice edge and it wouldn't be effectively retconning key historical events like Caverns of Time did.

i agree. caverns of time was a bit cheap because it was a blatant atempt to alow the players to be a part of allready established great moments that had nothing to do with the players charecter. if FF 14 were to do it they'd most likely keep it within the confines of "the player is there because the player was always there"-predestination paradox and all that shit.

In the Abyssea storyline, Your character fails to defeat promathia in the CoP Storyline, and as a result consumed seltheus and subsequently laid waste to Vanadiel, the only survivor of that timeline was Prische

After discussing with a few friends, there's something immense as well for the time travel. Technically, if you pay attention, YOU SAVE YOURSELF FROM ALEXANDER'S ATTACK DURING THE TIMESTOP AT HIS HEART. This was brought up by the BLM in our group and after further investigation, even comparing lines. The DPS check when adds are sent back is 4 members of the party going back in time, the killing of the adds bursting the timestop bubble and allowing you to dodge. It makes me wonder if Alexander can more easily control time within his own body with less aether required.

If Time Magic is going to become a thing, I suspect it won't be until the Warrior of Light winds up in Sharlayan. As you say, the Sharlayans have been dabbling in Time Magic as seen in Vivi, so it would make sense that it would be a discipline to be learned by the Warrior of Light in the scholar nation itself. I'm personally not expecting any time-related shenanigans to take place in Stormblood, but it seems like we'll inevitably see something in future. If FFXIV were to do a Cataclysm/Realm Reborn-style refresh of the whole world in a future expansion, I can see them integrating time periods into it. Maybe different parts of Eorzea being in different time periods, that sort of thing. Doesn't seem necessary in the short-term, though, as the world is huge and we're still on one continent. To Ilsabard, I say!

Time Mage won't be added as a job anytime soon. The three upcoming jobs appear to be Red Mage (more or less confirmed by Yoshida's Scarlet Witch shirt worn recently), Samurai, and Dancer. While Samurai and Dancer don't seem to be 100% confirmed, merely hints being thrown here and there, they seem to be the strongest contenders. The wonders of time travel that Alex enabled appeared to just preserve a single timeline. The fact that it couldn't see through a specific point in time has to do with the notion of people crafting their own destiny rather than everything being predetermined. It does seem like Alex had a pretty good understanding of how to manipulate history and the events beforehand in order to get to that specific unsolved point in history, though. I kind of likened it to Chrono Cross. Overall, it's a pretty interesting concept.

I don't think time travel is stupid but i think it's the kind of Achilles Heel that going into space is. Needs to be very, VERY carefully handle to not seem pretentious or grasping at straws to make things feel fresh. Also I am calling it now. Time mage is a healer. It works so well with the other healers: -Hi, I heal by abusing mother nature, with her permission, I just have to spend most of my time going back to the woods making sure she doesn't loose her shit for the umpteenth time. -Hi... I HEAL YOU WITH MATH! I ARITHMETIC YOUR ARTHRITIS! I PHYSICS YOUR PAIN! Seriously though sometimes I feel like the only person who spends any amount of time trying to cure diseases though. -Hi! I heal you through the power of the stars. *Far away look* Psych, your healed because I say so. -Hi! I heal you by turning back pockets of time around your wounds and ailments to when you weren't hurt anymore. Yup, fits right in. (Obviously a gross exaggeration and simplification for mild comedic effect for those who might take that as a serious appraisal of lore>.>)

So yeah, edited that and some grammar mistakes. I don't think it be too hard to add time mage with some fun critical thoughts. It's hard to add any of the old classes that were either combo classes or more specialized classes that take from existing staples but I think it's doable. Just distinguish itself by focusing on gravity and demi spells for clerics stance. I just think it have a hard time being a DPS considering it's signature ultimate move been taken already. Maybe a support DPS with a line of sight meteor shower type limit break? Speaking of which. What kind of weapon would we give em? A watch type of a weapon the knee jerk idea I get but it sounds lame. Maybe sun dial needles?

Alex David I agree, I only pointed it out because AST has skills like Gravity and Time Dialation. Would for sure be difficult to find skills that havent been taken. Of course Comet is still there, but if you gave them haste/faith/bravery it would essentially be a AST reskin. In certain FF games even Regen is left for Time Mages and thats also taken. Might be cool to have them use one handed maces/cudgels since those became irrelevant for the other casters.

I highly doubt we will see Time Mages pop up in 14. Storywise a slim chance, but not as a playable job. Adding time travel usually just messes up everything and if the WoL could just pop back in time anytime they want why would there be any urgency. Playable wise Astrologian has a lot of similar spells to Time Mages of the past, Sharlayan Astros are already in a way Time Mages. Gravity, Lightspeed and Time Dilation. Maybe it is safer to theorize the study of Time Magic evolved into a branch of Astrology.

We've had time mages for over a year now. AST's have multiple forms of Haste, they have Gravity, Stella is a form of Slow, Celestial Opposition is a Stop as well as stop can work in this game, their LB3 straight up halts time for themselves as seen in the 60 ast quest. A proper Time Mage wouldnt work for XIV's gameplay, so they gave us a neutered version and changed the name, but in its essence its still a time mage.

I think that rather than Time Mage as a playable job, we could get something where other jobs co-opt parts of it - Astrologian already seems to be fulfilling that role to some extent, and I could see in 4.0 the new summoner abilities relating to Alexander in some way, like how Dreadwyrm Trance and Deathflare tie into Bahamut - maybe refreshing DoTs the way Astrologians refresh beneficial effects?

I'm 100% sure we won't get a playable Time Mage job. Astrologian already fills that spot and I'm actually surprised you didn't mention them once in the video considering they have 4 abilities linked to Time Mage or focus directly on time itself. I do think we will run into a pure Time Mage in the upcoming AST questline in Stormblood to teach us more about our time manipulating potential. I feel as if heavensward delved deep into the astronomy side of the job while the time portion was kinda tacked on.

highroll hero he did. And the status effect was Temporal Displacement, the same effect Alexander places on the WoL in A12. So far an AST and Alex are the only two in the FFXIV universe to possess that effect.

AST also has the ability to speed up time as well. We in particular can do it around a single person of an entire allied party depending on the card combinations.

Time mage in the way people want will never happen in a big way like that. Giving personal people that power would derail everything in such a huge way. In lore every time it has been brought up it has been said the stakes are far too high even on a small scale-- learned through Vivi's story. On a larger scale it is calamity levels bad and Alexander is pretty much the harbinger of time, he wouldn't allow that to happen. They saw people wanting Time Mage so they made Astro. True, *none of Astro's spells have anything to do with time* (highlighted because so many people have the misconception that they in anyway deal with time magic which isn't the case), but some of their spells are spells Time Mages used in Tactics (I.E. gravity, and to a lesser extent buffs [until they were all just made damage buffs]). That was their gentle nod towards that crowd while not actually shooting themselves in the foot by allowing their story to be ripped apart by timey wimey bull. The way they did it in ShB was major, but not in the way of "everyone is gunna do it now!" More like, if the world is ending and you have no other choice, everyone is willing to fall on the sword to save what they can. Personally I feel like I'm the only person not excited by this idea, it would completely rip open holes in so many different aspects of lore, and would open the door for us to (maybe) be a God level savior hopping around helping throughout time. I like a good power fantasy like the next person, but that's a whole different level.

AST already has time magic at their disposal. Time Dilation is one obvious one, though Benefic is described to reverse the time on a wound to make it as if it never happened in the first place as well.

So basically a story line similar to FFXI's Wings of the Goddess? I never did get to finish that whole expansion (lack of people to progress it with, even when it was first out) but it had the "WoL" affect the past to change the future quite a bit and it brought you to the Crystal War, a point in the past that essentially brought to what the current state of Vandiel is at when you start the game. I'm sure we will see another instance of time travel in the future story wise but not a whole expansion. I personally haven't played AST but from their spells alone, wouldn't they constitute as FXIV's version of a Time Mage? Most NPC's wield unattainable skills so I'm sure we'll meet up with someone who's ascended the AST job to be a Time Mage, whether good or bad at some point.

time mage is extremely unlikely for the same reason that geomancer is unlikely it exists in another job. Ast weilds time manipulation. it totally has a move called time dialation. celestial opposition effects time and i think the ast lb reverses time. who knows maybe leveva's grandfather made that automaton. also gravity is time magic. likely means more time magic in the future of Ast.

Time Magic is still in its extreme infancy to be tapped into outside of those directly modified by Alexander's influence. As such, it'd be much too soon for us to see it branch out to be a more public aspect of magic such as a whole job field or a culture surrounding it. However, that isn't to say that it isn't possible for one point alone: it handles time. For that alone, perhaps there were previous civilizations that actually utilized and mastered the magicks well before a catastrophe and the events of such have isolated them outside of the scope of history itself? Would that be a bit much to think of and consider, given how many ancient civilizations we have in ruins? There's still a lot of the world we've yet to tap into, and what if their meddling actually tore them from the annals of history itself?

Louisoux used a form of time magic by invoking Althyk the Keeper, at the battle of Carteneu to preserve the warriors of light. So there is a older president for it. Also someone had to have given Alexander the power to do what it does as he is still in himself a creation.

Unfortunately, I'd disagree about Alexander, though. Most Primals have been carved into existence upon the idea those that will it believe it has. A case of Primals being modified from their true forms would be when Hraesvelgr spoke of Shiva's form being perverse from the true memory he had of her. The Primals we have fought previously are not their true forms and are instead twisted into what those that worship them see them as in their mind collectively. Wasn't Alexander incomplete until the Illuminati took hold of it and warped it with their ideals of what it would be capable of doing for them?

Coming back to this video I can agree with many commenters that astro seems to want to be time and geomancers fused together. Still time mage would make a good healrer and great idea. I however see that if Time Mage is a thing it will be more of an NPC who masters it to send us back in time or maybe into a place like Memoria from the end of FF 9. A place to see all history but not impact it. Either way if we do happen to take part in more temporal adventures the team better reference Chrono Trigger a lot!

Ethys Asher fair enough, but the symbol of the god of time (I don't remember the name)was shown indicating that he used some form of time magic. and the echo only lets the WoL see the past as far as we know. we can't use it to do the crazy regenerative strength the WoD used in the fight against him. also, if they had time magic, it would be highly convoluted as e be chasing them back and forth, probaly even taking place in the battle for cartneau, which would just set the cycle in motion again. aka, wed be stuck in a viscous time loop. srry for the slight rant, time travel confuses the hell out of me due to Dr. Who

The WoL time traveling might have already happened... there is still no explanation on how the WoL handed Cid his goggles physically while the main character was like an Aether ghost.... and i am damn sure it was not symbolic ... 1.0 was more clear about it... but the WoL' s echo can change events of the past.

Oblivion Gaming In 1.0 the WoL could even multi-echo ..sadly it was not expanded as the game shut down... but there were cases that the WoL echoed through someone's soul/memories while already been inside someone else's memories. Minfilia at one point tells you some men have been in a lifetime journey and when "they came back" they wouldn't tell nothing of what they saw out of shame. hints that some people echo jumped back in time through souls ala Inception so much they must have witnessed very early events of betrayal perhaps?

I am neither for nor against a Time Mage job for the simple reason that right now I can't imagine what they would bring to the fray. I also don't see why some people are lumping time-related skills on the AST job, considering that the main theme of said job is fate and the stars, not time itself, with Light Speed being a bit of an exception because what is a mage job without a quickfire spell? In any case, I guess only time will tell. (Hurr hurr.) Regarding time-travel content, now that I would absolutely be on board with.

The thing is, Time Mage was always very "Stars" themed to begin with. the offensive time magic spells were Gravity, Comet, and Meteor, and everything else. especially given what the level 3 AST Limit Break is actually doing from an in world perspective.

NO. Absolutely not. I do not want the Warrior of Light traveling back in time. All that does is create infinite time loops inside pocket dimensions just like what happened with Alexander. I'm personally ok with Vivi's time alteration of an object in the present tho as that makes sense and there is no time looping involved. Now if you want to use time travel as dimension hoping to make sure what happened in our past happens in their present then maybe but I'd rather time travel be selved for the indefinite future.

theres a problem with this. gigi doesnt use time magic, they used universal manipulation magic witch warps the world around the caster into whatever there mind wants. gigis limitation was the fact that he could only alter something/someone into the was he remembered it/them which is why the grand sirs(cough) seers had to sped a good deal of time filling him with stories of when they were young/beautiful before having gigi cast it on them
