I get the feeling that the various "living statues" due to being outside the vault/cyrpt are what remands of the conquering Amdapor who likely would have prized the area for the easily mined stones and gems to make their various defenses in the war. And thanks to you I now know why such an old Japanese statue is doing in a very Turkish feeling ruins. I don't ever recall Skalla and Ala Mhigo trading with the east. I must have glanced over it during my rapid rush to punch Zenos in his smug face. So great to have you back good sir now if only I had funds enough to support you.

I was curious about this myself, though it appears to be a random appearance. When you defeat the smaller one before the final boss, you can sometimes see the Fat Cat face clip through.
