FG Falcon door handle repair

Well done mate, it certainly helped knowing what to expect. The only problem I had, as you said, was separating the mirror wiring harness, the smaller black one. If you force it as I did it will split the entire switch, which is not a good thing. There is a small retaining clip, which you can't see, on the long axis of the male body of the plug. Along with a squirt of CRC you need to "gently" squeeze the female section with a pair of multigrips, this helps release the male retaining clip, apply even pressure with a wiggle and it will separate without wrecking the switch. My part did not come with the screws and washers. I used 8 x 12mm round washers, 2 per screw, 4 x 14G x 16mm Pan head self tappers from Bunnings. I also picked up a ToolPRO 5 piece Trim remover set from Super Cheap, about $20.00 this made the job so much easier and more professional - Cheers

14G screws is too big, maybe 10g would do it with m5 washers, for those wondering the screws on the door are T25 torq (star)

Hi great Vid. Many thanks. My husband, who did the job got around the problem of potentially broken connectors by using smaller tools through the open window and leaving them on. He said it was the most efficient job he'd ever done off video advice.

Top video mate. Cheers! I also yanked out the whole switch trying to remove the power mirror connector @ 4:52 (it seems near impossible not to - it's really in there!). A word of warning to those who do the same: There are four tiny springs & two similarly miniscule pivots which allow the power window switch to return to the central position. These will remain inside the door trim when you pop it off. Try not to lose them! Mine flew out when I was getting violent with that melted plastic shit!

great video. has saved me $155 in labour from ford. and yeh these plastic heads are BS. i also didnt get the screws and washers in the pack with the new door latch i got from them so have to go back to them for that

Thanks for the vid it meant that I made sure I bought a replacement part thar came with screws. One thing that threw me for a bit was not realising that the “door pull” where the first screw is removed from has to be removed also otherwise it holds the skin on (see 1:28). Thx again

2nd time I've had to replace...Maybe try lube up cable and door jam springs to minimise any resistance when pulling lever to avoid breaking another one...

railtrolley You can get replacement clips for cheap from eBay as well, but they are a real pain to fit

@@brosk1s883 Thanks. I should have clarified in my previous comment. I got a new door handle only and kept the old door trim. My other hobby of restoring Matchbox cars came in handy. The base plate of a Matchbox is attached just like an FG door handle, and the procedure is the same: drill out the rivets, tap threads for replacement screws, new handle on and secure with screws. Works fine. With Matchbox, I have an EF and an AU Falcon.
