Fun fact... even dealers 'dont know' this and will never find the problem untill you buy a new car from them. There is sometimes also one in a different spot which also clogs up and creates problems. Also not many mechanics know about those. Twinair is just fiats version of vtec, but a lot more complicated.

My naturally aspirated fiat has 163k now, still going strong and only just now on its second clutch. 2.5k-4k mi oil changes are the answer to most of the fiat reliability problems, but that multiair filter is HELLUR important!!! 🎉🎉🎉
@Spollekop
@Spollekop Жыл бұрын
The multiair engines are pretty reliable as long as you pamper it with service. Use the prescribed oil type, short oil intervals and change the multiair filter regularly. Don't forget to get the timing belt done I time. Every 80k miles I think. When changing timing belt also replace the water pump with a genuine replacement pump. They don't fail that often but it's a fairly cheap part and is cheap to replace when the timing belt is already off the car. It's a lot more expensive to replace when it fails later.

The best preventive maintenance you can do is change your damn oil on time or a little early. My car says to change the oil every 15,000 miles if you use the correct oil. I change it every 5,000 using the same oil that it says to do every 15k. But I am a mechanic, and I have seen what happens to engines when you don't change it often enough. $$$

I like Fiat, old Fiat. Had a 600 from the 70's? Rebuilt it, put a header system on it and painted it Blue. One night returning to the Barracks, I found the center of the parking lot piled with snow. Not in the field next to the lot. Well the little bugger had great traction so I rolled back and forth and rolled on top of the snow mound. The looks in the morning... I explained I was from Florida and didn't know I couldn't do that. But there was a parking space below me. 12 feet below me. I made foot steps on the way down, and climbed them on the way up. Backed down and went to the hangar.

I own a 12 Fiat abarth 500 I had a premature turbo failure that shot shrapnel into the engine and destroyed it at 70,000 mi. But it wasn't completely the turbo's fault The after run pump to keep the turbo cool on shutdown had failed. I change the multi-air screen every 35,000 mi religiously, With the new motor. Not that the 2 are related it is just good practice

Well Hell! Who'd know it? OK folks, this is what it is coming down to: #1. When you purchase any vehicle, purchase a subscription to "Alldata" for your vehicle. #2 purchase a bidirectional scanner appropriate for your vehicle. #3. Turn your garage into a mechanic bay with lift, air compressor, appropriate gauges, repair tools, fluids for transmission, A/C, engine, coolant, spare belts, injectors, coils, plugs, various sensors and solenoid. OTHERWISE, BUY A DISPOSABLE SCOOTER.

It won't fix the issue, it'll still have the same problem. Source: I've been driving an Abarth for 6 years. These engines must be daily driven or pretty close to it because sitting is what causes problems, cold temperatures exasperate it. You also can't use shity oil. It has to be 5 w40 and you must change it when the light comes on, most people don't Best solution is after the car sits for awhile, "clear flood mode" and crank that little engine for about thirty seconds to build up the oil pressure. Also, if these car sit for too long they will crank like they have no compression, just keep on cranking and it'll fire up once up multiair brick is full of oil and hydraulics are operating The reason why the variable valve system has a filter is because it's a true variable valve system. The valves are hydraulically operated, lift is calculated stroke by stroke.

All of the engines that run variable valve timing (or in this Fiat's case, valves) with oil pressure need regular oil changes and ALL filter changes.

So I've got to kno since I'm hoping to go back to college to get my degree as an A.S.E certified mechanic. What's it like to work on a vehicle such as a Fiat? How is it's mechanics compared to a BMW or Mercedes? Are they similar or way off the charts? I've had done some work on foreign vehicles such as a tiny triumph car my friend could pickup one corner of the car and lift it high enough I could place a jack stand under the axels so he could work on it. The even had an Unimog? I believe that's how it's spelt. It's made by Mercedes 4wd WW2 Ambulance. The gear shift system is very odd it has a clutch yet the the gear shift lever moves forward and backward I swear it true. No joke I even asked him how in the fuk can you shift if it can't move in the H pattern. He explained it but I forgot besides it would have been nice if he could show me how it actually works yet sadly she wasn't drivable.
