FIAT 600 School engine.

What is a school engine ?
This is a school engine, a FIAT 600 school engine! They were used to teach students learning to drive, how the internal combustion engine works. In Italy, there was quite an industry producing this stuff. Vespa engines would get the same treatment. Complete half scale car chassis were produced, built up with full size components cut away to illustrate how things operate. Since childhood, I have been facilitated by the sight of these cut away engines. Probably from visits to the London Science Museum.
So when I discovered that I might just be able to get my own School Engine and a FIAT 600 version. Well, you can guess what happened!

There really are a work of art and I would have thought rather expensive to produce. This is why I’m wondering about it being an In house thing. I have never seen another FIAT 600 one but I would have thought that there were plenty of them back in the day.

That is so cool! I own a Zastava 750s (basically a Fiat 600). It is so nice to see all the components and how it connects and works together. I am way too young to have grown up with that kind of cars and mechanical knowledge so i am very happy to find it here on KZbin.

Great little thing. I had a BSA engine once, that allmost looked like that. Only thing, that engine was so clever it did it all to it self. Not a great moment but you live and learn.

Brilliant!! And typical of Italians that they went to the trouble to teach new drivers how the engine works, whereas over here we just had to answer half a dozen questions on the Highway Code....

Yes it’s not just the engine and transmission that gets the treatment. All other areas get this attention. But does it make Italians better drivers ?

You might just find one at the Bologna show . But I’ve never seen another FIAT 600 one !

A brilliant learning aid. I wasn't quite sure whether the colour coding related to inlet (white), outlet (red), cooling (blue)?

Yes I think you could be on to something but red is also used on some of the cuts. I will have a closer look.
